I have to admit I am a BIG NOOB to GT racing , I have PS3 and am wondering how do I get to where I race karts on GT5 (LOL) ,,, can I get to it on arcade mode , please help me out .

Speaking of Karts, I can't do them.

I did the beginner ones easily enough, then struggle massively. My cousin came over one day, and wanted a go, so I let him do the next 3 karting races, but he struggle on the final one.

I keep trying, but I always spin out, no matter what I try. I wish SRF was an option in that, just so I could get it done, and forget about it.

I'm not good in many areas of the game, but for some reason, my largest ineptitude is in a light, low HP, automatic vehicle, with only an accelorator and a brake.

Kart is super easy, you basicaly never break. Just let the trottle off and turn very gently, try to be very smooth. When and If you need to break, be sure to be in straight line, same think with trottle. It actually drives very differently from cars, I dont really like it. Maybe it's fun with a wheel.

Yes it sounds easy, and everyone says it is, I just can't do it.

I may just be the worst GT player in the world.

If I go to fast round the corners, I spin, if I take my thumb off the button to get round safely, the competition get too far ahead.

I'm honestly just awful at them haha

Cammo1707, try driving with your foot/finger always on the gas when braking.

And btw, IMO driving a kart backwards is much more easier and even faster, because then it's FWD.

I can't drive the carts well either. I think I finally won the first beginner race, after many tries, early on in my game experience. But, I gave up on the rest of them. I also spin them too easily, driving with my DS3.

I don't really like driving the Elise or the Furai, for similar reasons. They're just bigger, faster Go-Carts!

Yeah sorry for the super easy, should have said for me.

I did have trouble with the last race a bit but honestly from memory I never break in kart, I just lift off accel in two turn (there's only 2 turn that you can't take at max speed) and the rest is pedal to the medal.

I guess I'll have to eventually go back and try them again. As I recall, it was also very difficult for me to drive in traffic. One little bump from another cart, and I'm off into the wall/grass, even when it's not my fault! Damn little kids!

Karts require a delicate touch. Really light steering (usually a jab will do...rarely will you need to go full lock with kart steering). Feather the throttle mid-corner, countersteer briefly if you get sideways (again using slight steering motions).

Somebody up above said you never have to brake. I haven't found that to be true. Braking is needed, but try to brake mostly in a straight line while doing so. Brake, then turn-in.

I expect most of us that don't drive the Karts well are using the DS3, x throttle, square brake, d-pad steering. It's difficult to feather that throttle and not turn too hard. But no...I don't want to change my controls!

Another thing is you're probably braking like a car. I have experience racing both gas and electric karts so it has transferred to GT5 but I believe only the final challenge required (light) braking. Use your throttle to help you turn. Let off, turn, gas.

The hardest part for me is getting into the lead, it seems I always get spun out but when I finally get in the lead it's basically a guaranteed win.

That's how I race too. Nearly impossible w the d pad. Use the stick to turn and it become WAY less difficult.

Took me about 4 tries to win the last event, simply because I was worrying about getting the lead early and was spinning out going too fast..stay patient and drive smooth. You will get the lead soon enough

It took me ages to get used to them! I tried them when I first got the game after not playing GT for 2-3 years since completing GT5P, but, then I left it for a while and carried on with the other Special Events and a few races and came back, was pretty easy, except for the last one in Autumn Ring, Can't do it at all!

My tip is not to steer and accelerate at the same time, going round corners quickly alternately tap the D-Pad and accelerator.

I think you're both right. Some courses are open enough where you never need to brake (for the beginner level Special Event courses letting the tire scrub off a little speed will do), but the last couple of courses in Advanced have a turn tight enough to require some braking. But yea, because the brake is in the rear (making it equivalent to 0/10 balance in a car), trail-braking is likely to cause a spin.

add the Karts to favoriete cars and in arcade mode you can drive you're favorite cars :dopey:

karts are verry fun to race in real live and in gt5 :p

I eventually Golded all the Kart events and was using the DS3 with the Square and X buttons. I am by no means a brillian racer (the majority of my licenses tests, 57 complete, are Bronzed though I did eventually Gold the first license). In the Autumn Mini race it was don't panic if you are not in first place at the end of the first lap. Take it steady and brake later than your opponents on the first corner and be prepared to go past on a lift off for the next corner.

It was the delicacy of movements compared to normal racing that initially got me (and even took a while to learn at Autumn Mini). You can do a fair job of feathering the throttle with the DS3 buttons. Unfortunately it is all down to some repetition.

I had given up on both the final races but persevered with the Karting circuit one and Golded it, just had to be cautious with the throttle so as not to spin out. Even then I was unable to complete the Autumn Mini Race and gave up. I did return and after practice was able to win it. Patience!

Karts are hard with a DS3. You can't feel yourself losing the grip. I use a DFGT and it works perfectly. I would go as far as even saying the difference is astronomical. Get a wheel and you'll love the carts!

There are special events. Also, you can buy a kart in GT life and add it to favorites to use it in arcade, or you can use it in practice and do one make races. The best kart races are online. There are usually quite a few karts only room, and they fill but fairly quickly.

Finally did it! Thanks to those who gave helpful hints to answer my slightly off-topic post lol.

Was able to go hard for two laps, take the lead on the straight of the third lap, and basically cruise three laps afterwards.

Now, no more karting :)

Victory !!!!! Got gold in the last &%#$@^ advanced kart racing after 10 attempts last night. The secret is to get in 5th or 6th place after the 2nd curve and draft, draft, draft after those little kids. If you don't draft behind a kart you cannot get to max speed (84mph) and they will escape from you. Restart if the kart in front of you spins out, because without drafting another kart you'll never win. Racers will move in a slower pace after you take the lead.

Many posts here mention you don't need to break. I did apply break on straights before a sharp corner when I was faster than 75mph, but drifted a lot when I felt it was ok.

Not quite true, slipstreaming will help, but dropping your gear ratios slightly will allow you to out-accelerate the AI without relying on them staying on the racing line.

I had trouble with the Karting challenges too, especially using a DS3, best I could do on the first two levels was a Silver but I just bought a DFGT wheel and golded all of them this afternoon! What a difference that wheel makes!I been playing Gran Turismo since the first version and I should of bought the wheel a long time ago!:dopey:

I will now tell you how to drive the karts. As I professionally race real karts, i can win any kart race on gt5. Here are my tips on how to drive the karts.
1. go into the corner really fast, breaking as late as you can.
2. Remove throttle/brake, and put the kart on full lock. this will cause understeer
3. as the kart begins to grip at the front, slowly straighten the wheel. DO NOT touch any - curbs. using curbs takes allot of practice
4. as you exit the corner, slowly apply throttle and carry on straightening the wheel.

General tips:
Use all of the track
Dont touch the barriers.
Either stay of the curbs or muller them.
:sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly::sly:

1 use the view where you can see the steering wheel, this stops you over correcting.
2 With the DS3 use the buttons, so if you do need to break pulse the button a few times just like ABS to wash of so some speed but you won't spin.
3 At autumn mini go to transmission & lower top speed gearing by 10kms this will help with acceleration & you don't hit top speed on this track anyway.Good luck.
