Basically GT5 online is practically unbearable. Actually that's a lie, the entire game is.

My problem is it freezes all the time on loading screens, or from coming back from an online lobby, it freezes on the lobby selection screen, with no options at all, just the background. I've cleared the data cache on GT5 with no improvement, so I deleted the data.

Problem is now, I can't download the updates because I get half way with them and then it cuts off. Thing is, it's only GT5 this problem happens with, I just downloaded all the updates and content for Batman Arkham City and no problem whatsoever with 260mb downloads.

Anyone got any ideas?

I've been having similar problems that you mentioned, but no where near as extreme as yours sound. But I have a question, has your connection always been like this with GT, or is this a new thing?

It's a new thing, only been happening the last week or so.

If there's a way to download the updates off the PS3 system then someone let me know, the second update won't get past 98% for me -.- well annoying.

I've had this issue from time to time since the beginning. Somethinf we'll just have to deal with. Try wiring an ethernet cable from your router to your PS3 and see if that changes anything.

Try contacting your ISP. They might be throttling your connection. It has to do with your end either the ISP or your connection. I have never had trouble with any of your issues after I talked with my ISP and threatened to take my money else where.

I'd have to get a wire about 20m long to get anywhere near my router >_> as for the connection, speeds are showing 15mb/s (only 25 short of what it's supposed to be mind you) and it's only GT5 that if affects, however it may be worth giving them a nag to see if it gets me anywhere, even if just a few extra mb/s :P

Traffic shaping any thing beyond port 80 and http Internet traffic is a MASSIVE broblem for USERs of UK ISPs.

The ISPs USE the F.U.P you signed up to , to traffic shape users WITH OUT telling the user.

VM were Traffic shaping XBOX LIVE for 2 months in areas of the UK.

They kept telling people that no they were not shaping them. It took thousands of complaints Via Newsgroups to get a friendly engineer to take a look on his lunch break.
And magicly VM CS started saying o its a mistake. but the system as to be set up/told to block services in your area after a load point is reached.

If you use WIFI you have to regularly check WIFI noise in your area. It only takes a new Wifi Router on the same channel as you to cause drop outs during high load. For example 9 of my neighbours have Wifi that can be seen during the day. 1 I don't talk to has Wifi unprotected still.

wifi only causes problems on the PS3, hardwire by any means necessary, it happens on every game too, sync/connection issues all related to port/router settings
