GT5 killed my PS3 (Please help)

Hey guys, can someone help me?

I finally got around to loading up GT5 to give it a try. After attempting to download the game, my PS3 is locked up and I get no picture/signal and can't do anything. What's going on?

Here is the situation. Since I stopped playing GT5P 2 years ago, I have been using my PS3 exclusively for Blue Rays and Netflix. So yesterday, I turned on my PS3 and put in GT5. I first did the system update which took 5 minutes. No problems there. Then when I clicked to start up GT5, it started the download process. It said it would take I think 150 mins and there was a progress bar. So once it got started, I turned the tv back to the cable box and watched television for a while. I checked back to the PS3 about 2.5 hrs later and there was no picture. No nothing. Both the green and blue light are on in the front so the PS3 was on. I tried hitting the PS button and several other buttons and I got nothing. So I turned off the PS3 and same. No picture, no signal, no nothing. It is as though the PS3 is on but it's not doing anything.

I can eject the disk, the lights are on but nothing. I have unplugged the PS3 and started it back up again but nothing. I have now tried it on a second tv and same response. My PS3 seems dead.

It is still receiving a signal from my bluetooth controller because I can eject the disk with it. But it won't do anything else.

What should I do? My PS3 was working before I tried downloading GT5, and now my PS3 is not working at all. To me, it is obvious something happened BECAUSE of GT5.

What should I do?

Any help will be appreciated.
 
Check the output from the PS3 to the TV. Check your HDMI cable and test it on something else to make sure it works. My cable shorted out on me during a race, so anything's possible.
 
Sounds like a cable problem have you tried another hdmi/composite cable?
 
maybe your video output setting got reset?

are you using HDMI or composite?

check the cables to see there is no loose cables first, it could be simple thing like that.

if that's not it, switch out the cables and see what happens.

doesn't sound like YLOD or your PS3 bricking. there would be no green/blue light at all if that was the case and you can eject and all that so...

I was using HDMI on the first tv and then used composite on the 2nd tv. Further, I did not touch the PS3 during the GT5 download. It froze at some point during the 2.5 hrs after I started the download. I am positive it is not the cables.

Other thoughts?

if all the connections are good, try pressing and holding the power button for 5-6 seconds until you hear a second beep.

This will reset your video settings and you can reconfigure to the cable/output you are using.

it just sounds like something is up with your video output.

it *could* be that your hdmi or composite output(which ever you are using) from the back of the PS3 could be bad... or it could just be a cable going bad... or the input on your tv.
 
Sounds like the GPU went out. If you bought warrenty with your ps3 and is still valid, I say take it to the store you bought it from

if his GPU went out, wouldn't he have gotten the YLOD?

his unit still has green/blue light on the front, he can eject, so on and so forth.

Holy Christmas!!! I did the reset as you suggested and BINGO!!!! She lives again. Fantastic!! Thank you. I'm a bit at a loss for why it went dead in the first place since all I was doing was downloading the game.

Strangely, however, it is saying I need to do the system update again. I am in the process of updating the system now and then will try GT5 again. I'll let you guys know what happens. Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

On the warranty thing, I would be doubly screwed. I've had the system for about 30 months AND I bought it from the now defunct Circuit City. 👎
