It's just a feeling I get, I plugged the PS3 to my PC SD TV card (good old yellow plug) to do some Bspec in a little window while surfing the net. I don't know, it's something about the blending of the colors, the smoothness the edges have, In high definition you can tell the graphics are computer generated, with to over glowing effects, everything has a metallic shiny look, plus you can see the pixels and other computer related stuff, in SD it quite looks like a TV broadcast, at least in replay mode. The camera focus looks more "believable" in SD, in HD the stuff suddenly gets out of focus with some layer with blurring effect, in SD there's a gradual focus going on.

Have you taken a look to GT5 in SD, are you with or against my opinion?

I only ever have seen it in SD. And I like it.
Unfortunately I have yet to see it on an HD-TV, so I can't compare.

Yes, I am a bum.

I agree with you.

I used to to that while playing Super Monaco GP on Megadrive - I purposely lowered sharpness to make it more real.

Super Monaco GP (1989) + 12yo kid (me) + imagination = heaven.

Of course it looks more real in SD. It looks even more real if you rub Vaseline into your eyes before playing.

If it looks more real in SD, then something went horribly wrong during development, and Sony would the get the firing squads ready.

If GT5 at The Ring doesn't look real in HD then you need to calibrate your TV screen so it does. GT5 looks pretty real in HD on my TV, and similar in SD, but SD just looks awful after HD.

If the quality looks good at X, then it will also look good anywhere less than X.
Take a picture, for example. Downscaled, it looks good. Upscaled, you start to see more of the pixels.
In HD, you might be viewing things at a higher resolution, but are the geometry and the game world of higher resolution aswell? No.

I'm talking about color blending, focus, not just billions of pixels.

No need to calibrate anything as my PC monitor acts as my gaming screen.

I'm in HD with an LCD and this thread gave me the idea to lower the sharpness. Lo and behold, it definitely helped out significantly the more I lowered it. I also noticed that there are several settings that expose less of the artifacting, or the appearance of threading of the cars while they are in motion.

BTW, I'm on 40"Samsung. I suspect results would be different for people with LEDs. Experiment.
