I feel a bit stupid at the moment, because currently, in terms of regular online event content, we're getting three straight-out-of-a-random-generator time trials, all utterly dull, all events that could be easily surpassed if we were able to make our own events.

For GT5 on the other hand, they've just released an expert level Super GT based five race challenge, with performance difference bonuses.

Surely Polyphony Digital are aware of the fact that they're currently making GT5 look more fun than GT6? If not for the upgraded physics, I'd probably be playing GT5 right now, making my own tracks, taking part in point to point rally events, much more exciting seasonal events etc. etc.

Yes they probably are aware, in fact, they are probably doing it to tease us. Throw everything at GT5 at the end to show how "good" it was.

It just shows how poorly managed the franchise is. How on earth do you justify more specialized and more frequently issued content for a title that has been replaced by the next title in the series. For heavens sake, we have bought GT6 but at this point, we may as well go back to GT5 which has more content and is better supported by DLC. Ridiculous.

As much as I love GT6, I am a bit mad to see GT5 get a new seasonal championship, while we get time trials once again in GT6... I know PD has done a lot of work of the new physics and graphics, but when it comes down to events, they are poorly managed.

I would at this point say that playing online is better than getting new seasonal cups every other Thursday, but the online in GT6 has some annoying problems, like the tire glitch. I like the fact that PD keeps life in GT5, don`t get me wrong, but when GT5 gets more seasonal events than GT6, it makes me a bit furious.

But apart from the lack of seasonal events, I still enjoy GT6. Have had some epic moments online, and the new physics have made GT even better.

When GT5 seasonal races end in may and then we might get better seasonal races for GT6 but we have to wait and see

In the past 2 weeks, over half my friends list that plays GT has been in GT 5... not GT 6... And I've not seen them back in GT 6 since... The rest haven't logged in to PSN in those 2 weeks...

Come and join the WRS - our own events, professionally run and guaranteed fair and fun:

This looks cool! But I recall the online features were suppose to include features to host events just like this... It really is a feature that should be core to the game. Having to export and upload replays? Yeah, I'm lazy, even too lazy to pull my wheel out most evenings...

Most things people do to try and compensate for what GT doesn't do is brilliant, but it also puts a spotlight on whats lacking in the product...

I prefer the time trials over the race challenges. Time trials I usually run laps every couple of days, the races I only do once.

I would prefer the race challenges were against other players instead of AI.

when gt6 released, during my 1st week of clocking up the miles my old ps3 died, landed up getting a replacement slim. wasn't too much damage with my lost progress on gt6 however I lost all m gt5 data. I just got to level 40 about a month before gt6 released. wish I had the patience to go back to gt5.

Guys I think what we're seeing is PD waiting for two main prerequisites before ramping up with new online community features, coursemaker, B-spec, and DLC (especially tracks) etc. for GT6.

These prerequisites are:

(a) For the GT6 game engine to be refined to the definitive standard (I recall it took at least six months after launch before GT5 became stable);

(b) The other thing they are waiting for is the switchover from GT5's online community -- which PD will officially close in around May this year. When that happens, all the focus on game content and 'community' features will have to shift over to GT6 (or they will lose everyone). As for GT7, well that will be quite some way off, especially since a GT7 Prologue would have to come first anyway.

So basically PD isn't closing GT5 until the GT6 platform is fully ready and capable of taking over in May 2014. At the moment they are keeping the GT5 community fed with content until GT6 is fully stable and ready to run the new content, tracks, online features etc. Right now, we are basically beta-testing the GT6 engine, before it's fully ready to take over from GT5.

...almost tempted to go back to GT5 :)

I actually did go back to GT5, but just for the Shuffle racing. 👍

I might fire GT6 up if we get a decent update that adds additional content, I'll definitely go back to GT6 for good if & when they add Shuffle racing.

Only one problem, that kind of logic doesn't apply to PD. Would it not have been more logical to say, "Here is our brand new game, we want it to be fully ready and capable of taking over in December 2013, we have 3 years experience with GT5, let's get it right at launch so we can sell millions of games really quickly".

It makes no sense in the business world to launch a product and wait 6 months for it to work properly. Only in the world of "PD Logic" does it make any sense and you seem to have bought into it..

I haven't bought into it, I just believe that this is what PD know they have to do now. And they can still redeem themselves.
NB. PD and its Sony bankers must realize that when they close down the GT5 online servers (which they have said they will do in May), they'd better have the GT6 platform ready and capable of taking on board the Gran Turismo [5] 'community', otherwise it certainly will be "Hara-Kiri" for them ;-)
As you point out, it's not ideal, but for now I'll hold my judgment.

I too prefer the race seasonals rather than just time trial; almost tempted to go back to GT5 :)
I already have. I see no point in playing GT6, tuning cars to be spot on, just to get an update and having to do it all over again (if they'll ever gonna fix camber and other stuff).
But I actually like it, because if GT6 had been complete from the start, I wouldn't been doing the latest GT5 seasonal races and I wouldn't have gotten as close to lvl 40 A-spec as I am now. I also made a huge amount of credits and bought every single car at the dealerships(still working on completing the ones on the UCD though)
I do however login on GT6 everyday, just to keep the loginbonus at 200% and to be ready.

Maybe GT5 is getting the 'last hurrah' before the online capabilities are switched off. Hopefully the goods bits of GT5 will be shifted to GT6 - though wouldn't know what the good bits are, as I rarely played GT5.

It is a bit weird - surely they can make the exact same events on GT6?

Unless a seperate, much smaller team is still doing minor stuff on GT5? And most of the efforts are going into making the GT6 updates?
