GT5 Not Playing After Updates

A friend and I have been playing gt5 since the launch day without being connected to the internet, therefore we didnt have any of the updates. So I decided to take it to another friend to install all the updates, but now the game does not play! Does anyone know the reason behind this and/or ways to resolve the issue? Ive been advised that it might work if i delete our save file and start again, but we're on 94% so i really dont want to do that!! Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
 
When you say doesn't play, what exactly happens when you put the disk in? Deleting the save file will do nothing.

My game wont load now either. It says insufficent free space on hard disk drive. It's always been online and the updates were downloaded when released. Played last night and it worked fine. Turn on my system now and this happens. I have a PS3 with 250gb and only two other games loaded on it. Just tried to play a different game and it worked fine. Just having problem with GT5.
