MMM
All of the online probs people have with GT5 is simply down to poor routing of internal internet traffic as well as routers that are restrictive as hell on factory settings.
Many games do not have a problem even on routers that are a little restrictive and it does seem that GT5's net code is a little sensitive to correct router set up.
If the concept of routing is not clear, just think of it as a huge junction with lots of traffic. if the the traffic lights do not work or the guy directing traffic does a bad job then the cars crash. its almost kind of like that for a router. lol
Do you have 1 box or 2 boxes?
1: Some people have an all in one router and modem - so 1 box that do both?
2: Some people have a separate router and separate modem - so 2 boxes?
If your option 1 one then you perhaps just need some router/PS3 set up to get you working.
If your option is 2 then it is likely your PS3 is plugged into the router, which is plugged into your modem, you may be NAT Type 3 because of this which is the worst set up to have and would explain your probs.
NAT 1 is directly plugged in to the modem, so router or routing is not required and there for no set up required. (this is the best set up, like a direct road/autobahn with no restrictions)
NAT 2 is often using combined modem/router, and is often good enough, but some routers on factory settings cause problems, often with certain ports closed with a firewall interfering and keep certain ports closed. (Works very well with a properly set up router, or a router with good base factory settings, a well organised junction but can be bad if on a poor badly set up router)
NAT 3 is similar to the above and normally either though a combined router/modem or through a separate router and modem where the PS3 will be plugged into the router and not the modem. Often router/modem settings are much more restrictive than NAT type 2, causing many more problems. (The worse set up to have, like driving in India lol)
PS
I am not a pro, so if any proper IT people want to clarify or correct anything feel free.
Onboy, try and find the IP address of your router (not ISP IP address) this will grant you access to your routers setting. you may need to input a password.
Also PM me the Make and model of your router. I can look at the online manual and perhaps talk you through setting it up. take note though, some very basic routers do not have the relevent options to change, so if that is the case you may need to junk the router. (providing it is a router settings problem being the cause)
