GT5 Randomizer Mod v1.0
Random prize cars in Gran Turismo 5, rolled again every time you start a new game.

Hi everyone! I wanted to replay GT5's career without knowing which car each event was going to give me, so I (Claude) dug into the game files and made a randomizer.

When you create a new save, every car prize in GT Mode is replaced by a random car and stored in that save:
  • A-Spec and B-Spec event rewards
  • Special events and license rewards
  • Level-up gifts and patch gifts
  • Present car tickets (the ones that roll a car from a list)
Reloading doesn't re-roll anything, and your next new game gets a completely different set. The game's own "you received..." messages show the random car.

Modes
  • 100% random (recommended): any of the ~1,100 cars in the game, all with the same chance. Your Sunday Cup prize can be an X2010... or a Daihatsu Midget.
  • Balanced: a random car with a price close to the original prize.

The prebuilt zips are for the US version (BCUS98114). For EU/JP/Asia, or if you run other mods on top, the repo has a small tool (Python 3, nothing else to install) that builds the mod from your own game files. You need your own copy of the game.

Install
  1. Back up PDIPFS/K/4D (RPCS3: dev_hdd0/game/BCUS98114/USRDIR/PDIPFS).
  2. Copy the contents of Randomizer_100pct_random/PDIPFS (or Randomizer_balanced/PDIPFS) into the game's PDIPFS folder, replacing K/4D.
  3. Boot the game. The Polyphony Digital screen shows a small GT5 Randomizer Mod badge in the corner.
  4. Start a new game. Prizes are rolled when the save is created, so existing saves keep their original prizes. Back up or delete your GT5 save first.
To uninstall, copy Uninstall/PDIPFS/K/4D back. The mod doesn't overwrite any original file, it only adds new ones.

How it works
When GT5 creates a save, a script (EventPresentUtil::initializeEventPresent) loads event_present.xml into a SQLite table inside the save, and every present in the game comes from that table. The mod patches that compiled Adhoc script, plus the loaders of updates 1.04 to 2.02, so each prize car goes through a random pick before it's stored. The randomness comes from the engine's own RNG mixed with the current time.

The whole toolchain is in the repo, in plain Python: PDIPFS decryption and repacking, the table of contents B-tree, an Adhoc v12 assembler, a SpecDB reader for the car list, and a DXT1 encoder for the boot badge.

Tested on RPCS3. It should behave the same on real hardware (CFW/HEN) like the Master Mod does, but reports from PS3 players are very welcome.

Credits
Big thanks to Nenkai and the GT Online community for the GT5 Master Mod, and for GTToolsSharp, PDTools and GTAdhocToolchain. Their work documenting the file formats made this possible.

Bug reports, ideas and "look what the Sunday Cup gave me" screenshots are welcome here or on GitHub issues. Have fun!
