Hi, I bought a new ps3 slim and did a system backup to USB on my old system. I ran system restore on the new PS3 slims and I have all the user accounts except that I have a asterisk before the user names.

GT5 won't load the saved game, says its from another user and wipes it when I run GT5. I'm logged in as the same user that I was using before on the old PS3.

This makes no sense to me, isn't this what backup and restore is supposed to do?

As far as I'm concerned this option is very limited. Better just load the game save file from a USB stick and reinstall the game from scratch in your new PS3. You'll have to download all the updates though.

I did re-install the game from scratch, but to copy all my user accounts and saves I used system backup which is exactly what you are supposed to do in order to change to a new PS3.

The save is there fine, sees it with the correct amount of cash and car etc but GT5 wipes it when I run it, very very annoying.

That's very strange. Since I have had only one account in my PS3's, I really don't know what might be going on.

I think it maybe that asterisk thats the problem. Chances are as it doesn't quite match the profile name to the one embedded into the save its not registering.

EDIT. Try highlighting your profile under users in the xmb, hit info, then delete the asterisk and see what happens (its worth a shot). Also, has your PSN linked back to the profile O.K?

Ok I worked it out, I had to first log into my PSN account, then restored the save game from the USB, then run GT5.

Luckily I had saved the game separately from the system backup to USB, otherwise I would have had to wipe the PS3 hard drive and download all the updates again.

You know you can just use a usb to usb cable to do a complete transfer from one ps3 to the other.

I could do that, except I gave the old PS3 fat to a friend in Australia six months ago when I left the country and only got around to buying a PS3 slim here in Japan now.
