An idea came to me today, when thinking of all the bunch of Credits I have lying around with no use (until the next OCD refresh).

What if every car a user buys from the premium car Dealership (possibly also OCD), whilst signed into the PSN, is recorded on the GT5 servers.
Each car maker brand has shares (like on the stock exchange), which players can buy with Credits.
Depending on which brands are more popular at the time (live updated or every 15 minutes-hour) the price of a share for that brand fluctuates.
That way users can invest in brands they like or such, and gain more credits.
What would be nice about this is that the "market" would never close as there's someone, somewhere, in some timezone playing GT5 in brought daylight.
This could also be expanded into the Parts market, as once some hit the 20mil cap, they stock up on Racing Softs, Transmissions and such.

I realize this hasn't got much use in a driving game, but so do many other things in GT5. Let me know what you think of it.

Thats funny...I like this idea. I think it's got use in a driving game. Gives it a little incentive to invest. Also gives people an idea of the most popular cars. I would do it for sure.

Would this even extend to standard cars? Also, what about cars that users WIN?

Used Car Dealership can be accessed offline and is randomly generated by the console. Whereas the Premium Dealership could be linked to the PD servers, much the same way Seasonals are, but in 2 modes:
- when offline, it's regular dealership like now
- when online, it registers which cars are bought
Because if it were otherwise, they would have to track which cars we have in the garage, which for people who trade wouldn't be at all good, as PD will then know that many dupe cars & tickets.

As for the cars that are won from A-Spec/B-Spec I guess they could be included as well; as those who rarely play these modes usually go for the ones which give the best prize car, so it also influences the market as to which brand is hot.

It's not; there's two master-lists where the UCD follows one or the other, and each day brings out a specific set of cars.

Yes this is bad. I was thinking, well, why doesn't it just register the cars we've bought offline when we get back online? But this does cancel out any people who play offline or don't have a connection any moment, which could potentially be a lot of cars bought/sold and may even change the most/least popular stats and stocks.

Also I was not thinking of them including the UCD because the cars there are not always available, so we have to buy what we can, not what we want.
However the OCD could count, as the cars there can be bought at any time.

I see what you mean, keeping a log of cars which are bought, later to be updated once the user logs in. However the problem (much the same way as it is in real life) is that it would cause an instant flood.
If someone was buying cars like crazy over the course of a week of no internet, and then suddenly went online, his/hers tens or hundreds of cars would just flood the market and the price of the share would just drop horribly.
On the real stock exchange, there can be a maximum difference of +/- 15% in a day, so in GT5 they would have to keep the same concept of limiting the variability over a period of 24 hours.

The cool thing about playing on the GT5 stock exchange is that the biggest factor would be the Seasonal Event. So if a new seasonal event is placed around Lamborghinis, then it's predictable that many will rush to buy Lambos. So that would be a perfect time to buy Lambo shares.
I'm having fun just thinking about it! :D

I really hope KAZ READS THIS THREAD

Because this needs to be implemented.
IMPLEMENT THIS PD!

This "Stock Exchange" feature could be implemented far more in-depth in GT6, but for now, a basic version would suffice.
GT doesn't have an auction house and user made car selling shop like there's in Forza. But a stock market recreated around car brands, is very high class and PD-like.👍

I like the sound of this idea.
Very honoured to know that Jason Clarkson from "The Interceptors" likes my idea! :D

Sorry for "bumping" but I posted this topic a bit too late in the night and don't think many people got a chance to see it; I'm really curious for peoples opinions and ideas.
I won't bump it again.

This would be manipulated by people to get loads of free credits. I don't know how, but they'll find a way.

Im not sure the market values would fluctuate enough to make it dynamic?

Plus I think it would require some serious server load.

But I think it's a good idea in theory.

Funny how these 2 posts contradict eachother! :P
The biggest fluctuation factor would be:
1. Seasonal events
2. Online Collectors Dealership
However the maximum increase/decrease over a period of 24 hours would be limited to a certain percentage in change (15% is that number in real life).
And since the market value of a brand would increase according to the number of sales that brand makes, the only way of 'cheating' would be to organize massive threads of people to use a second account and simply start buying at a certain moment from the same manufacturer tens/hundreds of cars.
But what it will come down to is creating a ratio formula to balance between minimal purchase and a sky-rocketing. Or even something simple like keeping track (on their servers) how many cars from the same brand 1 user buys (as I can't think of any scenario where 1 user would buy 10 Ferrari 599's over the course of 1 hour), so they could just limit that.
Overall, this would just be another way of playing the game, not a gambling situation where you can walk away with millions.
It still beats having your CPU play the game for you (B-Spec). :sly:
