Hey guys, it's ENDURANCEGUY!

Here I've got another poll, and it's about transmission.

For me, I find manual transmission more realistic and gives me something to do while I'm driving. I also feel that the car goes abit faster with it on. Though I never started with Manual transmission.

Give your say!

Manual for me, mainly because I've been racing with manual for quite a while and I find it really odd to race on auto now, I can't drive properly. So I stick to manual in whatever car I'm driving.

Depends. If I'm lazy I'll use auto but if I'm feeling up for some fun I'll drop it in manual. If I'm drag racing it's always in maual.

I'll be surprised if any wheel users use automatic whatsoever.

Wow, I never really thought anyone would chose the last two options!

You didn't limiting voting so I voted a,b,d

i start the manual transmission with ds3 and now with dfgt i play always with abs off!!
try it it's perfect!!

When I first got my DFGT, I drove in auto as that was what I was used to from playing with a pad, but now I'm a manual driver, and when I have to go back to auto (if playing on pad basically) I get annoyed at how the computer chooses when to change gear!

I thought you could do manual on a pad? The option is there I think? Must be.

You can. Its the L2/R2 buttons.

Depends. There are some cars in GT5 that are fully automatic, meaning that IRL, you won't be able to change gears manually. The Premium Ford Mustang is a good example of this. The Mustang in the game has a 5-speed automatic, yet I'm allowed to change gears on my own. Kinda strange.

I use auto on cars that on the game do not come stock with a manual in real life, on some cars PD got it right like on the old Jaguar XKR R Performance '02, more cars should be like this in the game for those of us that like to drive the cars in stock form.

Manual with paddle shift. Can't work the clutch and H shifter while downshifting yet (I use a G27).

Driving with manual provides you with another entire sub-dimension to racing on GT5. I really hope I can learn how to use my H shifter shortly.

I use manual (and a pad) even on cars only available IRL with auto since the ingame auto-function doesn't replicate how a real automatic functions (and I've fitted most of those with a custom box anyway).
It gives more control (which a fully working auto would too, to an extend) and some cars fitted with a Stage 2 turbo need shortshifting which again the ingame auto-function isn't able to.

I have tried AT but its always infuriating and usually quite boring. I trust my driving skills way beyond any auto shift, both in gt5 and in life.
Keeping the car stable, being in the correct gear for each corner and keeping the engine in its peak torque band are challenges for the driver, if I wanted to abdicate responsibility to the game I'd play B-spec. In AT there's a tendency to drive the way the game dictates rather than using your own driving style.

they need to fix the clutch system for wheel users

I use manual, it's more fun for me and requires more skill.

if you use ds3 you must change the l2/r2 with brake and accel..

It's down to personal preference really. I personally use the right analog stick for accel/brake and L2/R2 for gear down/up.

Just depands on which car I use, also even using manual, I will check if that car is using stick or paddle shifter.

Auto. I'm lazy

Used to use auto, but when you start using manual you just can't go back. Two things that annoy me though are:
- Car defaulting to Auto once you have used a car with only 1 gear (e.g. Tesla)
- Being unable to change down into reverse

I keep stock settings on DS3, and just pull fast on the L2/R2 to shift and I am set.

Manual for me! Also seen as the auto always shifts at the redline rather than just after the power peak it means some of the turbocharged cars with 'peaky' power deliverys are really hampered performance-wise using auto (Try some of the turbocharged Kei cars or cars with low/mid rpm turbo installed, although there are a few exceptions!). :)

Are you also known as ZEROOPROJECT?
I started GT5 using manual and cockpit only view, up until last week I used the Paddle buttons to change gears on the DFGT, then I got a Thrustmaster T500 RS with the Shifter and GT Wheelstand Pro, even though I am an American and my car in Real Life has the driver on the left of the car so I use my right hand to shift, I set up the wheel stand with the H-shifter on the left of the wheel, because the cars I use are from Japan and the UK. I use the H-shifter for cars that have the H-shifter and the paddles for cars that have the paddle shifters.

I thought that would be the case too, but then I had a quick scan through the current time trial ranking boards and saw quite a lot of people using automatic with a wheel. Especially on the London course with the corners that are so close to each other.

Perhaps I'm just a bit OCD, but I will not use manual if the car I'm driving in-game has a fully automatic transmission.
