OK, there appears to be a major problem with my copy of GT5, so bad that now when I run the game it gets to the 'Sony Entertainment' screen and then it just goes black. Here's some back history of how it got here (very long, but I wanted to cover everything):
Everything had been working perfectly since I installed the game back in 2010. Then around the start of the year I experienced a freeze at the 'GT' logo screen every now and then. It didn't happen enough to be a problem as a quick restart would cure it. Then a few weeks after that it would often get to listing the grid before a race (all offline) and just sit there doing nothing. Once again, this was only now and again so a reboot sorted it and everything was good.
I haven't had a chance to play GT5 for a couple of months, so I jumped at the chance last night and had the freeze at the grid list stage. OK, restarted it and managed to run the race without any problems, except, when I'd won, instead of displaying 'Finish' my car just carried on around the circuit at 50 mph and the sound kept rythmically cutting in and out. None of the controls worked and all I could do was hit the PS button and exit the game. Even my amp (I run the PS3 through the optical output to my amp) kept detecting then not detecting the sound input. Weird. Except when I quit the game this time the screen went black and PS3 beeped 3 times and had to be manually restarted.
OK, I thought, lets see if anyone on here has experienced this, so had a good look around. The main advice was to clean the disc - I did and it's spotless, delete the game data and reinstall it - did that (took 3 hours!) and ran a system and data check - did that (said there was corrupt data and sorted it).
Problem is now the game doesn't even load and just gets to the point after the Sony Entertainment screen then goes black. All I can do is quit via the PS button. So it's kind of worse.
I tried out a few other games (Assassin's Creed, Katamari, SingStar, etc) to see if it's the PS3, but they all played faultlessly with no freezing or sound issues.
Soooo, the situation I'm in now is that all I can try is a new copy and install of GT5 from a brand new disc. This may well work, but before I go and buy one (I don't know anyone near me with a spare copy) has anyone else got any ideas?
Please... I'm going mad and it's not a pretty sight for my family!
