Okay, my niece broke my original copy of GT5 way back in October and I just picked up GT5 XL today and it's asking me to install the game which is 2200 MB. My question is, will I lose all my cars from the Original GT5 save? I'm dieing to drive all my cars after so long as you can imagine. Also, at the moment I do not have internet hooked to my PS3.

Sorry but I think you'd have to buy an original GT5 disc to use your old save file. I'm 99.9% positive your original save will not work with the new XL Edition. You'll probably need to buy a new original GT5 disc or buy it second hand. Or start over new.

I believe it's a different disc type or something. Take the game SOCOM: Confrontation for example. There is BCUS-98183, and BCUS-98152. 98152 is the original NTSC, but 98183 came later but is still NTSC, and you cannot use a 98152 savefile on a 98183 disc. Check the side of the case and there should be something like this. Compare the one of the XL disc to the original disc case, if they're the same it will work, if not, it won't.

Before you do anything make a backup of your save game. If it doesn't work then try renting a copy of GT5 then do the updates then your save game might work with GT5 XL.

My original GT 5 disc broke awhile back and I too was worried about what would happen if I got the XL disc :nervous: Well, I bit the bullet and did it last night, and there was no issue at all. However, I was not asked to install the game again, just the last update I had missed (04). All my credits, cars and stuff were all there

Not sure why yours is asking to re-install the entire game, unless its just some updates you missed?

Do a backup of the save data (you should be doing that anyway, as I found out the hard way last year :( ) just to be sure.

Thanks everyone for the help. I'm about to just go for it. I don't have a flash drive to back up anything and as I said, I haven't played since October, so I have indeed missed a few updates.

That doesn't necessarily apply to all games, though it is possible. I think the bigger possible hurdle is that the OP said his PS3 isn't connected to the Internet right now, which could mean his save is from version 1.0 (it's possible) and that might not work with whatever version XL is. One way to find out, I suppose.

Edit: missed that second post there. I think it'll be fine, but I have been wrong before.

I believe that's your issue right there. The game is most likely trying to install the few updates between then and now. Spec 2.0 came out November-ish if memory serves right, which was a hefty 1.5gb I belive (1500mb). Plus the 500MB or so in updates in the past month.

I could be wrong though.

Maybe it was in November when my niece broke it, cause all I know is she broke it a few days after Battlefield 3 came out and I did get the 2.0 update, but anyway It worked and I still have all my cars. Can't wait for the weekend to roll around so I can hook up to the internet and get all my DLC cars and tracks. =^.^=

Glad it worked for you too! That should put an end to all this stuff about it being a different game and you will have to start all over.
