GT5 XL + DLC + US/EU versions

I've read quite a bit of information on various forums (including this one) but can't seem to find a definitive answer on this.

I bought myself a PS3 over the Christmas period and having loved previous versions of GT bought a copy of GT5 XL from a friend who received it as a unwanted Christmas gift.

It turns out it is actually a US version (and I am based in UK) but I didn't realize this at the time (now looking back the $20 voucher info on the front of the packaging is a huge giveaway that it is a US version) and have been playing pretty solid for a week or so.

My first problem was the XL content that is DLC... I entered the code which is valid until end of March 2013 and it wouldn't accept it, a few emails and phone calls later to support confirmed that my game was indeed a US version and couldn't get the DLC via my UK log in.

I've read a few posts about setting up a US PSN ID and downloading the content via that but there's a few issues I've seen - if I create a US PSN ID I understand I will have to use that ID to play the game - thus losing my existing saves with the 50 or so cars I have and 30% progress.

A few people have suggested just downloading the DLC on the US PSN ID then switching back to my normal PSN ID, but I'm under the impression this wont work?

Just wondered if anyone had experience of getting this working before I give up and start again with a UK version.

You need to create US PSN ID in order to download that DLC from the US Store.

Once downloaded - be sure to download "Family Pack" DLC, it enables GT5 DLC to be used by all profiles on one PS3 console - you should be able to use the US DLC on your UK-profile game-save because it will match the regional code of disc you are using.

Just notice that any DLC purchases are tied to US store because you have US version of the game (and your gamesave - which *works* no problem on your UK account - is tied with the US regional coding).

Of course, it would be *best* if you would just go and buy PAL GT5 Academy Edition, it can be found for 15 pounds or so.

You will get 2.07 update on disc and more DLC then XL version has. It is also 100% compatible with any future DLC (if we're going to get it) from UK store. Of course, in that case, you will have to start playing from the start (UK/PAL game do not recognise US save) but you will get *future-proof* version as long as UK Store purchases are concerned.

Thanks for the confirmation, I may buy the PAL GT5 Academy Edition and start again, it'll be a little frustrating but then it has only taken me a week to get as far as I have done so far.

Does the Academy version have the Spa-Franchorchamps track in the DLC content?

Sorry this may sound ridiculous, but can't you back up the game data on a USB drive, then once you buy your new game and download the content you want, load the old game data so you can at least keep those cars and progress too? Or does that still create a conflict with the new game's PSN ID?

have you tryed to load your normal gt pal version and see if the dlc work on that one? give it a try,i know that there are some dlc for other games with diferent game id that work, example the nfs shift dlc works in us and eur verssions no matter fromm wich version you bought

Dlc only works with the region it was bought, so a eu dlc will not work with a us version of the game
