Hi, I do a time trial competition every month with a friend of mine, pick one track and a class of car, I try and ensure that we are encouraged to use different cars and that no one car dominates. For the next trial I want to use GT500 cars (the '00-'03 models as well as the more recent ones), has anyone got any ideas about PP and/or bhp/weight limitations for this?

Cheers

That is definitely an option! I was looking at getting the cars up to around 600pp, I did see one thread for a race series where they had different pp values for different cars, but it only covered the more modern versions, I wanted something to cover the older ones as well and wondered if anyone had tested this and got a good set of regs.

590PP. All GT500 cars can reach with an oil change and some running. Several will have to be slightly detuned with ballast or reduced engine power.

I like them at 502HP and Racing Hard tires. This HP allows a wide range of cars to be competitive.

Using HP instead of PP gives the driver more options with downforce. You don't need to worry about weight because you can't lighten those cars.

I dislike racing GT500 cars with the stage 3 turbo added. I think it spoils the beautiful balance of the cars.

PS. This is how my friends and I race them online.

590 is a good point for GT500 cars. On race hard tires. But all Super GT cars are not equal, even at the same PP. The NSXs are just plain quicker. A tiny bit tricky, but quick.

Yes, but they don't all weigh the same, so you must take that into account.

Keep the car stock is probably the best way to keep it equal. And the other most obvious way to balanced performance is to choose the race cars from the same year- for example don't run the Nismo Z with the '08 GTR or even the the different year's NSXes.

And as to the PP, you'll notice that NSX usually runs lower (590+) while the GTR or even the SC430 slightly higher in the low 600s. But because the NSX is an MR (mid-engine rear drive), the lower number is quite deceptive. Compared to the GTR and SC430, the mid-engine NSX handles better especially regarding rear tire grip and is less prone to understeer. On a twisty track like Suzuka, the NSX is just as fast as the other two GT500 cars.

You might be talking about our racing series.

This is the PP we came up for next season.

Provisionally tested and confirmed:

601 - Old NSX's (Takata/Loctite)
613 - All GT-R's including Stealth/ Yellowhat YMS Supra
615 - All Lexus's/All Premiuim NSX's
618 - Denso Supra,Castrol 97(Premium),Castrol '01
621 - Xanavi Nismo Z

Cheers nissman, I think it was your series I was looking at, thanks for the updated resrictions. That sort of power range is what I wanted to be racing at, some people won't think its as pure but it is definitely good fun! I was testing them yesterday and its amazing how much the NS-X over-performs for its pp level, no surprise you've got it so far behind the others. One question - did you test the Lambo Nomad Diablo?

Generally yes, but it really depends on the track. I hosted a GT500 series with 8 rounds at 590PP and I can tell you there was an ebb and flow of which cars were faster or slower depending on the track.

At La Sarthe the NSX has an edge. At SSR5, for example, the Lexus seemed unstoppable.

Yes the old NSX's are way to easy to drive and they also have lower tyre wear than premium GT500 cars. Our fastest driver did low .49 in Suzuka with Takata NSX '03 601pp.

No we didnt test the Nomad Diablo yet. We are planing to do that for next season.

Ta again nissman, I'm using your regs for my competition now 👍

Will test the Nomad Diablo myself and let you know if I come to any useful conclusions, we're going to be running Cape Ring Periphary so results will be for that track.

I'm glad that I could help and let me know the results please, I'm interested.

P.s. Alex if you're interested to race in our series there is still place as we have 3 divisions this year, but we need people to fill 3rd division.
Check the GTF link in my sig if interested...

Alright nissman, I checked out your lot's GT500 hot lap times and you're all pretty fast. I got sidetracked yesterday into trying to better your Rome time in the Calsonic Impul GT-R, I can't get it under 1.03, probably could with a bit more time and getting rid of the very frustrating understeer but you guys are definitely fast (I assume that your times are supposed to be 'legal', i.e. no wall-riding). Not sure that I can make the commitment to a race series but might try and join you for any 1-offs you run. I'll get on to testing the Diablo in the next day or so and post the results when I can, I've also asked my mate to do the same, should be a decent test sample as we're of similar ability but he uses a DS3 and I'm on a DFGT.

All our times are legit. Didnt do any wall riding yet in Rome but I'm sure it would be slower if you do it.
1.03. is a decent time, if you started in Div.2 you would be running up front.

Its a shame you cant find the time to join Alex.

I'd love to have a few proper races, I ran in an F1 2010 series for a while and it was great fun to race people who just want to race clean (even though they usually whipped my behind!), so I'll see what I can do. I have an 11-month old who takes up a lot of my spare time so its a little limited usually.

I tested out a few GT500/Super GT cars at Capre Ring Periphery last night, using your restrictions, I found that the Xanavi Nismo Z was the easiest to get a good time from and is currently topping my timesheet without too many laps put in. I found that the Nomad Diablo at 610pp was easy to get right into the mix, so I definitely wouldn't suggest setting its limits higher than that for now, my gut feeling is that a better value is closer to 608pp, the only danger in going too low is that it loses a lot of straight line speed so would only suit certain tracks to be competitive. BTW my testing was done in Practice mode as that is what our competition runs in, I might look at changing that to online private room, that way our set-ups will be valid in online races as well.
