Before haters start to hate, I love GT as a simulator. It's good fun. I have also reinstalled it twice on my one year old 250GB Slim to make sure that the loading issues I've described below are not the fault of my PS3. I also refuse to drop money on an SSD. Don't bother suggesting it.

Most annoying gripe about the GUI:
It's obvious that hitting circle doesn't send you back a menu like you would expect from a typical Playstation game. Once you hit circle, the game has to animate the cursor moving across the screen onto the red box, then you have to hit cross to initiate the "Close" command. I don't understand the purpose for two button presses to accomplish one action. There is already a loading screen and or a spinning circle over the cursor when navigating between menus. This just adds to what feels like couple seconds of waiting.

We're in 2011 here. The only loading screens we should see are the game booting up, loading the car's 3D model (not stupid thumbnails..), launching a race, then returning to the menu after a race. I shouldn't see a loading screen or spinning circle over the arrow for each menu that I want to get to.

Navigating through this game just feels clunky.. I prefer GT5 Prologue's menu. It loads faster and looks better. Plus, I can store multiple car tuning setups in Prologue. I just don't know anymore... Will we ever get patches to fix these issues, maybe improve GT5's GUI? Or does PD already have their own special version of the game (They probably do) that they won't release to us, and that version has the best menu system and more features.

And when I'm in the Arcade mode car and track selection menus, I shouldn't have to wait for silly thumbnails to load. Two player split-screen especially has thumbnail loading lag. It's kind of embarrassing when friends come over to play GT5 and they can't figure out what car the game is trying to load, at least for a few seconds. Scroll really fast through them and you'll notice that the tiny pictures have to load, then the 3D model loads, so you don't necessarily know which car is selected unless you look at the comment box which is really hard to see on a small TV. Can PD at least install those thumbnails to the hard drive, or compress them somehow to make them load faster. How about just using plain old text as opposed to any pictures, then load the 3D model once you've had the text selected for a moment? Maybe a vertically scrolling list? Wouldn't that make sense?

I want these issues fixed. They make navigating through GT a bit irritating. Can Kaz comment if we'll ever have GUI improvements? I hope so.

Kind of off topic, but...
Some new features that could get patched in... Disable limit on number of favorite cars for use in arcade more. Allow the selection of multiple standard cars and change the oil on all of them simultaneously (provided you have the credits). Revert car to stock tuning (GT Life). Another good idea would be to give use the option to refresh all thumbnails so that when you reinstall the game, you don't have create a new thumbnail manually for each of your modified cars. I could add more ideas, but I'm going to end this rant for now.

Edit (I can keep adding ideas I guess):
How about allowing us to rename our cars. Sometimes I'll have doubles of a car, tuned and non-tuned and it can get confusing if they are the same color.

The GUI looks like it was designed for use with a mouse, that always annoyed me a little. A horizontal/vertical navigation is much better, like the GUI of NFS shift 1 (just to name something)...

The GUI is one of the major things that disappointed me as well. Very sloppy implementation with little to none creativity. Needlessly time consuming. I wish there was more customization. I mean if you're going to go through the trouble of making GTLife more of a "GT Myspace" thing than give me some damn freedoms! I'd like have my own color schemes, my own wallpapers, I'd like to customize the layout of the screen and so on.

I'd like things to be more accessible without that that ghastly loading screen inbetween every little thing I'm trying to do... Wanna buy a car and tune it up quick for a race? Well cool off ur jets and pick a number turbo, because the GUI from the 1990s takes it 1 step at a time.

On a related note, the cursor never lands on the most likely option. After adjusting settings it should probably default to hovering over Start Race. And after a licence test is completed it should hover over Next Test - why on earth would I want to repeat the test I've just golded? Why when a seasonal event is completed or a car purchased do you get thrown back to main menu? This is very basic stuff.

Another thing is the rather bad redirections. There are times when I have to buy more than once car in a go, half the time is spend on the loading screen:grumpy:

Same with online, you get kicked/diconnected, you are redirected to the main menu; thus wasting 5mins trying to open the lobby and filter again:mad:

Yes, this bugs me a lot too.

The only thing that really bothered me was the sluggish movement when moving across menus. But this was sped up in one of the updates 👍 I wish buying cars in the UCD was faster.

I also think it would be cool if the Tuning shop was integrated into GT Auto (with different music!)

Yeah the music in the UCD and Tuning Shop are extremely annoying.

Hmm, maybe try to connect a mouse to the PS3 and se if it works=)

Sometimes when I enter the open lobby the game freezes and the PS3 reboots, so I waste about 3 minutes reloading the game again :grumpy:.

All those posts remembered me of something I would like to be implemented very soon: The option of going to GT Auto and/or buy some cars while you're connected online.

This happened to me last week. We were in a 400pp race and everyone found matching cars. I had one but it lacked a transmission to deliver 205 Km/h at the end of Monza straight before the first chicane -- like everyone else.

Then I had to quit the lobby (I was hosting), go back to the main menu, visit GT Auto, buy, install, confirm, go back to open lobby, create room and wait for about 60% of people to reconnect.

This is my #1 complaint with GT5. It keep you from choosing any car you want online and then tuning it as needed to match pp/hp/tires. I'd love the Tuning Shop to be integrated into the Garage.

Agree*, but it has nothing to do with the GUI of PS3...

*how cool would it be if i could save car settings...

Speaking of GUI, triangle (and occasionally squale) was the back button on PS1 and 2 games. It took me quite a while to get used to that change when I first got my PS3. Does anyone know why that was done?

I'm fine with loading. Games load. CD's load. Things "load", I don't know it doesn't bother me.

The cursor never gets to me either. Once you know what you have to do the switch to hit buttons is instantaneous due to some sort of muscle memory or something.

The tuning shop and GT Auto in one? Doesn't bother me with them split, but it'd be cool to put them together. Maybe just have a top box in the tuning menu named "Maintenance" or something.

Just shedding the light of someone who isn't bothered.

I agree with all the complaints in this thread. I have some suggestions for the GUI too to help with wasteful loading that I actually made a thread about a while ago.

Put "car wash", "oil change" and "tuner shop" icons at the race start menu. That's what pits at the track are for. If I want to rerun the race I shouldn't have to come all the way back out to the main menu just to reload the GT Auto menu for those svs since Im already in the pits. If they implement this please for the love of kittens lol, don't load up the cheesy, unimaginative, cornball animations of guys performing those svs. Just make a quick "gurgle sound" for the oil change and a "water spray" sound for the car wash when you hit the respective icons. The tuner shop can of course go into the menu as it's necessary.

Keep us in the UCD or OLCD after we purchase a vehicle.

Also in the live timing screen, why in the name of sanity, did PD make the cursor fall on the "map select" or "driver strength" areas when navigating down
from the list of cars? You would think it would fall on the "driver instructions" area by default so you can quickly update the instructions for your driver. In other words, if the cursor is on the last car at the bottom of the menu and you press down to get to the "driver instruction" area it jumps you to either the map selector or the driver strength area which serves no function for the cursor to activate. Smh with a Hulk facepalm. Its minor but this game is overwhelmed by minor boneheaded decisions by PD that taken collectively drags the overall fun of the game down for me.

The entire menu system is a bit of a disaster. Several loading screens to do the simplest thing. I think the GUI will stay as it is because changing it would require an overhaul of a menu system that they seem to have deeply struggled with the first time they did it.
