GT6 as training for IRL race

PD have private copy of Dubai as a beta and he was a tester? 💡
 
Probably a developer version, similar to the one they used at The Ring last year.

There are PC sims that have Dubai, but I highly doubt they got a PC sim and GT6 mixed up.

Edit: I believe he did get them confused.
 
Must be a special build of the game for racers only, just like the GT5 build Red Bull had which contained Pikes Peak. :sly:

We might get the track as a (free) DLC like Spa in GT5. I'm pretty sure they are going to add a couple new tracks to the game during the next year or two.

Doesn't Forza 5 have it as well? I assume it was a mix up on names and the article ran with it.
Edit: was thinking Abu Dhabi in my head.

The guy who said he ran Dubai on GT6 wasn't GT academy. Correct?
I would absolutely love the track but I think that's more pointing to the success of the GT Academy drivers. It's just a good ad for the game that they honed their skills using their product and are winning real races.

I call ******** on that story. Not only is the track absent from any version of GT, the claim that he has over 300 hours in GT6 is extremely unlikely.

See, GT6 came out 5-6 december. Dubai 24 hours was last weekend. That would give him just over 30 days to get those hours in. That's an average of at least 10 hours each day! I don't see any (semi-)professional driver spending most of his waking day playing a game on a console as main preparation for an event.
 
This is exactly like the red bull artical that was released just after GT 5's launch where they mentioned training for hours on GT for Pikes Peak... But the track never materialized...

I wonder if PD have a non commercial version that caters to pro teams... Hmm
 
Woah. The Autodrome as a DLC would be great ! :D First local track for me :) (Okay, only two major local tracks are here in UAE :p) Hopefully Yas Marina DLC aswell :D

He was preparing by memorizing the track for 10 hours a day (which is perfectly possible) since he probably couldn't do it in real life. Also, since the track isn't in the game yet, he also was beta testing the track.
 
I was watching a Japanese TV program a while back where they picked people from the audience to go up against pro-Japanese drivers on GT6-equipped rigs.

During the show, one of the pro drivers mentioned on air that they would often head over to PD to get practice time on overseas tracks they would be going to race on.

So I have no doubts, that there are GT6 builds in-house at PD with tracks not yet in-game.
Probably available for GTA graduates, select auto industry folks, and pro-drivers.

I would put my money on GT6's Stowe track having been available to the GTA finalists...
...on location at Silverstone long before it appeared in GT6.

I may be wrong, but it just makes common sense. Its a tool for race-prep.

I don't think it is a case of getting GT6 and PC-games mixed up..
In the article, there is a link to a video-clip, where the driver is interviewed.. Here he talks about using GT6 as training-tool to get used to FF-drivetrain... And there is a short footage, of him sitting in front of a PS3 playing a GT-title (video-quality to low to see what version/what track)
And he is also asked how he compares GT6 to the older GT5...

Unfortunately, the interview reveals no further info on how/if he was able to drive Dubai in GT6...

For a couple of months after the GT5 DLC dropped anyone could race those tracks in the online MP if the room host had bought the DLC.
 
I think either of these scenarios are likely:

1. The driver mixed up the games. He might have been playing a lot of GT6, but he might also have been playing a lot of other racing games, and in the heat of the moment he confused which track belonged to which game.

2. The reporter assumed he was still talking about GT6 when he talked about how he had learned the track in advance, although his talk about GT6 was just related to general practicing.

3. The reporter made it all up, because he wanted a good story. Would not be the first time in the history of journalism.

One thing to keep in mind when it comes to facts delivered from news media is that they have a terrible track record. Facts and details are very often wrong. And this article doesn't even belong to the kind of news where they double-check for errors, so the probability of the article being incorrect in one way or the other is pretty high.

Friend of mine drove to Germany with his Elise in tow to drive the Nurburgring after learning it on GT4 and GT5. Said he wasn't prepared for the bumps and gradients. I think a few race drivers learn the layout of tracks they haven't driven IRL on various games at home, but only where to go left and right and roughly how long the straights are. No game would completely prepare you for an actual race or how a car will behave but i can totally believe he learned the layout of the course on a game. Even if it wasn't GT6.
