“I doubt that we’ll be throwing away the standard cars,” said Yamauchi. “Each car has its own fans. So I think we’ll hang on to the archive. In the meanwhile, some of those cars we may be able to make into Premium cars as they become available – but basically we’re more focused on increasing the number of premium cars.”

When some standard cars get updated to premium in GT7, are some of the standard cars going to get updated to premium in GT6?

Not that it hurts them to have cars, just the quality....

But, on that note, It is nice to have a good majority of the cars returning. I'll agree, as well, that if we can do custom liveries, we should be able to do a lot with them.

And, yes, if something happens for 7, it SHOULD happen for 6 (or at least for another year or two).

In all honesty, this news came as no surprise to me. Standard cars might be lacking in quality, but some are just as fun to use as premium cars. GT has the most diverse selection of cars I've ever seen in a game, and it would be a shame to let the standard cars go for the sake of consistency. It's not going to satisfy everybody, but if GT7 is ever going to release at a suitable time, PD will have no choice but to keep them.

The only thing I hope PD does is up the number of polygons for the standard cars, so they look satisfactory for next gen, as appose to keeping them at PS2 quality. This process has already started with some of the standard cars in GT6, but the whole selection needs to be brought up to this quality in time for GT7's release.

If the Standards with graphic features were reskinned, especially the race cars, that would go a long way to making them suitable for PS4. But I do want to see the cars brought up to Superstandard level as has been done with some of them in GT6. And make them suitable to be damaged, have bodykits, Race Modded, liveried, just like the Premiums. The tracks need a facelift too.

When it comes to damage, I doubt they'll be anything mind blowing, but I wasn't too keen on PD removing the 'soft body physics' as it were from GT5. With a bit of tweaking, they might come to a satisfactory level for all cars in the game. If you had dents, scratches, paint from other cars being transferred to others though grinding, and windows getting cracked or even shattering, I'd declare the cosmetic damage in GT7 pretty good. These special effects would be easy to make, and would keep all those damage lovers happy.

Mechanical damage on the other hand, can easily be improved. Just add extra components to the damage model, so cars get damaged in a more realistic manor, making racing much more challenging. For instance, you could damage the radiator of the car, and not long after, the engine would overheat, lose power, and unless you pit to fix the problem, the engine would die completely. How about wheels falling off if you crash into a barrier too hard? Imagine doing that in an endurance race! Only then would you know what it's like to retire from an event. That to me is what Gran Turismo should grow into in terms of damage.

GT7's damage doesn't have to be great. Just satisfactory. I hate how numerous people think GT7's damage model should be to the standard of games like Next Car Game and Rigs of Rods...

@oli440 I was thinking very much of something along the lines of your post. Was racing in my beloved NOMAD Diablo GT yesterday before I got too yuck and sleepy to continue. It had a few dings from following bots too closely and smacking a wall, and suffered the usual skin flexing and dirty smudge look. But the windshield flexed too, and I thought it would be nice to get an update in which it cracked at the least. And from cockpit view, those cracks would be visible.

I'd also considered different levels of damage for different cars, such as in GT5 with some of the Rally cars and a few of the Touring cars if I remember right, which cam pop a hood or door off, or lose a fender. But Consistency would work better. If the visual stuff is how you described it, that would satisfy me too, because those are pre-baked textures, and it shouldn't be too hard to model three or four levels of graphic wear from the few potentialities of impact or scrapage.

If PD is upgrading the Rally Cars like Ford Escort WRC to premium, then I recommend PD to put the names of the drivers, numbers and the logos which have been blocked by blocks.

And I think that cars with detailed interiors like the Suzuki GSX-R/4, Audi R8 Race Car'01 and BMW V12 LMR should be upgraded to premium: They are standard because they have low-res quality (they were took from GT4)... Who wants to keep the PS2 Standard Cars? For me, I don't mind if PS2 Standard cars are in GT7... For example, Formula GT is an standard car. If the standard cars are removed, then FGT also is removed... Hmm... Well, you want to standard cars to be out of GT7 until they are upgraded to premium, right?

While there are a whole slew of sports cars I want to see upgraded to at least sub-Premium level, I want PD's focus to begin with on the race cars, and those cars that can be modded into race cars, with Race Modification in mind.

And definitely license as much as they can. Other than the cigarette and liquor stuff on race cars, I'm hoping SONY will pony up enough funds to license everything they can, so no more bar codes or blocked off areas on liveries. And LOTS of sponsor decals for the forthcoming Livery Editor... hope hope. :D
