Why not have a thread for discussion about the online aspect of GT6? For me, it's a massive thing that needs improving from GT5.

So far, I have this link from their website, with a couple screens that have been posted in the Screenshots/videos thread too, but for relevance's sake, I'll pop them here too.

Just spotted this too on the GT site - the text is interesting too:

"features that were not supported officially in the previous title will now be included: online lobby time trials, drift trials and races with qualifying rounds are just a few examples. Users will also be able to create customised rooms tailored to their favourite play-style"

Looks like online will be much better for GT6!

*fingers-crossed*

Indeed. There's some good info there, but also still alot left in the air. There's like 5 pages of settings on that settings screen. Would die to know what kinda things we can fiddle with in that area.

Looks much the same with a different style, but with possibly more customization options. Not looking good for multi-class racing, but with only 16-car grids, that's not a huge loss.

Hopefully we do get time races (as opposed to lap distance races) as an option, as well as the ability to finish online races laps down when cars cross the line. That's one of the most annoying things about GT5.

I'm now much more excited seeing that much online detail,I've been waiting for this for months. Finally the simers can race and practice with all the good options I hope.Do I spot a possible data logger icon alongside the garage icon?

Look at the usernames! There are spaces between the names! Could we potentially be able to change our usernames online???

Also, "vice chat." Nice typo.

Just noticed that,we know that in demo we could put our own names instead of the PSN name,I think they might try that online, looks like it.

Room settings, same icon as now.

I really want to see the rest of those settings though! That's only page 1 of 6.

Really looking forward to how much control we can really have now. This will help us make funner racing leagues that aren't so repetitive in format. It's extremely important to me. I hope we get more info on this before GC is over.

I was expecting the room limit to be 16 so that's not a big deal, we know how to work with that already.

Anyway, should be fun times in December considering all the other stuff that's coming around, can't wait.

Good spot on the spaces between the names. 👍👍
Also, in the first screenshot, it shows the temperature. Mabey we will have controll over that.

The event settings screenshot has been slightly cropped on the right side.
I think it's intentional... maybe there was something they still don't want to unveil...

Anyway, so far so good on the online section. Also because it seems there is a lot more to uncover.

No telling yet, but I'm hoping we at least get passworded rooms and can schedule race events to set up automatically a week before hand.

I'm interested in seeing how free we are in creating "room modes"

Right there it's just Practice and Race like we have free run and race now, but if there's qualifying I imagine we can run a mode like this: Practice, Qualifying, Race (P Q R)

But then hopefully there's the ability to do really quick heats where it's just Q-R Q-R Q-R in a series. Or P-Q-R-R for dual heat races. Wanna find out about championship mode as well.

It has already been confirmed in an interview with Kaz that the game does not support multi class racing.

Basically yes, though it was Taku Imasaki:

A nice feature I'd like to see is the following.
Time Trial race created by user (this seems to be possible according to latest info, hopefully is something that can be last a month or so, so that users (friends) can play when available).
I'd really like to have the chance to visualize the best laptime ghosts of my friends (all together) during my attempt.
I think it would add fun/challenge to it... it would be (a little bit) like racing against them at their best performance...

Really? In that interview he said:

there will be multi-class racing in GT6, there won’t be a way for the game itself to conduct multi-class race scoring (i.e. class winners).

To me, that means the game supports functionality for multi-class in terms of the actual racing, but timing/scoring etc will be limited to just all cars, not segregated into classes.

Time trials should be good for rally just as much. Especially if next driver release times are adjustable

GT5 supported multi-class in that sense. So did GT5P and GT4 Online. If all you have to do is have different types of cars on the track, then it's not exactly revolutionary. Any game that allows more that one type of car on track at a time can do that.

I remember racing in a GT500/GT300 Super GT series in the early days of GT5. It was a multi-class series, but I wouldn't have said there's any functionality involved with that.

True multi-class is two separate races that happen to be on the track at the same time and are timed as such. It's basically all about the timing/scoring. Without that it's just some cars on a track, and you have to figure out the results yourself afterwards with a pen and paper.

It's exactly like is is in GT5. Which means no multi class racing. If they aren't divided into classes, then it's not multi class. Simple as that.

I'm thinking it could mean you can set 3(or how ever many classes there are) pp limits, have the players pick their class. That way it would be easier to make sure nobody is cheating .

Yeh I see what you mean now.

This is more what I was thinking. This would be nice, to be able to set multiple regulation brackets.

I'm really looking forward to the online-features in GT6. The fact that there appear to be 6 configuration-screens, only two of which we can see in the screenshot, leaves a lot of room for speculation.

1) Room Settings (General)
2) Course Settings (Weather/Time, Grip)
3)-6) ... ?

Candidates ... "Event Settings" (Practice/Quali/Race, Damage), "Regulation Settings" (Restrictions), any other suggestions ...?

I'm also glad to hear that settings can actually be saved and chosen when you open a room. Nothing like having to change all those settings each and every time you go online and into your own lobby...

"...users will have the chance to create and share Race Events amongst them, and the proper community tools will be implemented to support this new feature."

I hope that the "proper community tools" will be extensive & include things like championship points tables etc, plus everything Wardez said.

All of this sounds great, but I still hope matchmaking makes it into the game.

How about those regulation settings (PP, TC, ABS) ang the other ones with settings like laps, penalties, damage, grid and so on.

Yeh those will definately be in there. But even with those there would be at least another couple of pages with new stuff I would guess at. Unless they spread their butter really thin.
