I'll go first (obviously). I'm sure a lot of you will have ideas for the racing side, so I'll leave that and talk about the random "free roam" style lobbies instead. Just as a note, The chat functions and social aspects of GT7 are nice and well thought out; clearly PD wants people to communicate more in game. And share their interest in car culture and the like. GT8 will be going in this direction much like GT Sport did with introduction of the social hub, and GT7 improving on it.
In GT7 there's a thing called a "cop lobby". Some of you will never have heard of it, and some will be familiar with how it works.
GT7 has teased support of this with giving us the "ambulance" with a weird siren, and fake police cars which serve no purpose in game other than for people to put cop liverys on them and use them in these cop lobbies. And tokyo expressway tracks, which is included in GT7 and inspired by many car culture things.
It's funny we have a music rally mode which is cute but underused by online players and a cafe server mode which is nothing more than a namesake. Do something with it. I say make cop lobbies a real officially supported thing as there is clearly an audience for it. Give the host control to immobilise cars under a "traffic lobby" game mode.
In this server game mode:
1. Host chooses speed limit. Players who go above the speed for 5 seconds are automatically flagged in the server so the cops and hosts know who is misbehaving. Think of this as mobile speed cameras via drones.
2. Host can pick 5 people(cops) that get the power to immobilise another players car for upto 5 minutes within 20 seconds of being around the players vehicle (cop chasing a player and decides the pursuit is over, thus activates immobiliser). This will make cop lobbies way more interesting. How? well cop lobbies die out when too many people don't obey traffic laws or the laws of the lobby. Difficult to stop a car when they can just drive off... ruins the lobby when other people catch on that the power of the cop is weaning, and the host gets frustrated and closes the lobby early, kicking out everyone.
3. Infraction points system. Host decides how many strikes before a player's car cannot be used in that lobby. Let's say 3 strikes for all. The number of strikes a player has is visible on their screen whilst they are driving (unless they turn off all hud).
3.b Additional penalty system for offenders. After a player reaches a certain amount of infractions, host or other officers can decide by voting if the player is limited in car choice by drivetrain, horsepower, tyre choices. This penalty will automatically revert after 10 minutes of driving by the offending player. Penalty time is host adjustable.
3.c Visible Server description textbox present under lobby title. Host can change description and can input 1000 characters. This would help so people know what the server is about other than trying to cram a description in the lobby title, which is cumbersome.
4. There can be more but these things alone would help cop lobbies thrive a lot more than they would otherwise. And would make the joining random lobbies that aren't strictly race lobbies, a hell of a lot more interesting with new game modes or game modes like this that simulate life in a fun gamified way. As it is cop lobbies exist in discord, which is interesting as players are told off in discord server from rules they break in a GT7 server, but it is far from ideal.
You can even implement, officially, popular modes from other games, like Crown from the The Crew.
There are other things that can help, like host migration being implemented. I hope to see GT8 having more features, game modes to spice things up and better tools in the online side of things. Other games like GTA6 will blow it away otherwise.
I say for GT8 they should focus on making the game more engaging and community friendly. Like how WoW has a great community In the actual game. Why can't we have that for GT8, supported by better game design? Also would be great to launch the game correctly and support it with bi-weekly patches to fix issues quicker over several months.
