Don't know if any of you are interested but GTA III was released for iOS and droid yesterday. To be honest, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but Xperia Play users (like myself) but some people are enjoying it with the touch controls.

As for performance, on the Xperia Play, it runs fairly well with some frame drops but nothing too major. The graphics are the same as the PS2 version but the game has been upscaled to "HD quality".

All in all, it's well worth the £2.99 ($5.99 US) on the Xperia Play. Doubt I'd want to pay if I only had touch controlls but the droid version is compatible with some external controllers.

Even though I don't have a compatible device, I'd still like to see how it looks and plays on those systems.

I've written a review of the game here: GTA III: Full Review

I tested it on iPhone. Graphics are definitely better than PS2 quality on that - closer to the PC release. Touch controls work well too - much better than expected. Targeting is actually easier and more consistent than it was on the PS2. The cars can be slightly twitchy but you get used to it.

Few images from iPhone:

The Galaxy S2 was initially stated to be a supported device from the get-go, but it was dropped from the list about a week before release, instead, just the related Galaxy R is supported.
It does work on my S2, it just lags a bit, less so if you use top-down view, hopefully they will add official S2 support soon.

Been enjoying it during a long journey today but the targeting system isn't the best ever. Did the Chunky Lee Chong mission and it I ended up shooting everyone but the target.

Still very enjoyable on the Play though. Good ti hear it's good with touch controls as well. Hopefully they'll be able to do the same thing for the 10th anniversary of Vice City.

San Andreas and Vice City would be sweet to do that. I wish they would release it in the PSN store and Xbox Live as well as mobile devices. I'd be a sure buyer.

I wouldn't buy it, 3D games really eat your battery.:guilty:

Just noticed that the game saves whenever you exit the game, you don't have to go back to the hideout. Handy. Nice move by Rockstar.

Its crazy, I have to reload my game of Hearts whenever I switch back but I can jump into GTA3 with no loading screen at all.

Quite a large download at 492mb IIRC, wouldn't recommend for 3G.

Controls take a small amount of getting used to but this is one of the first 3D games I have played despite being an iDevice user for 4 years.

Id recommend to anyone.

Especially good as for some reason my PC install never had any sound in cutscenes and no radio, so now I can do the story and actually follow it.

And at $6.50NZ its a bargain at twice the price
