So I picked up the complete edition of GTA 4 which included those two DLC additions the other day, and now I have this question: should I play through the main storyline first and tackle them later or can I just play them right away?

GTA IV's DLC converge with GTA IV's main story so you might not see as many parallels if you skip out on the latter. For someone who has played all three, I can remember that both Luis' and Johnny's stories often come together with Niko's at many key points in the game, each protagonist inflicting a major part - you'll even see your player converse with the other protagonists. But even though it may seem they aim for the same thing, each character follows their own personal gain which will define their own plot in the end (the DLC are called "episodes of LC" for a reason). So you could take any way you want. However as a note, the DLC's will take a shorter time to beat than the vanilla one in terms of mission count, though at the same time providing you with enough background on how Niko's/Luis'/Johnny's (depends on which story you're playing) doing - you just won't see how it entails from beginning to end.

Firstly, thank you for the quick reply.

Secondly, even though they run in parallel with the main game, what would you do first?

I would personally go for Niko's story since I felt to be more provoking in terms of plot. The other protagonists work too but in my experience with them, they feel a bit hollow and only provide another view on a completely different lifestyle while at the same time running through the same tight space. Once again, it's your choice if you want to spend some time and see all the perspectives Johnny's lackluster life and Luis' high life will provide.

What i did, non intentionally, was play half of the main story, then beat TBoGT, then went back to the main story to beat that. After, i beat TLaD. It made for an interesting way to see the story. Almost Tarantino style if you will. Like i said though, it was non intentional. Just got bored with the main story to be honest.

I would add that The lost and the damned wasn't half as exciting for me as the main story with Nico, but neither of those two had all the fun of the fair, like The Ballad Of Gay Tony's episode.
If I were to go through them from the start, with no knowledge, I'd do the Lost, then do Nico's arc, then finish with the masterful finale that is TBOGT.
Should have them done for about, September 17th......

:irked:👍
