Hey peeps.

Hopefully it is okay to make a new topic for this (need as much exposure as possible).

Even though you may not agree with it, if all of you reading this could please sign my petition and share it around to as many places as possible there might just be a chance that Rockstar take notice. An e-mail gets sent to GTAOnline@rockstargames.com every time someone signs it (apparently).

Having a Friendly Free Roam mode would bring me back to GTA Online, and my siblings/wife too, and it isn't harming anyone, so there's no real reason to oppose it!

Thanks,
Andrew (Facebook name been changed for privacy reasons).

Hey Andrew.

I've given this much thought, I agreed at first but upon further pondering, I feel it's already here.

If you join a nice, laid back crew and use only private lobbies, it's (mostly) always a friendly place to be.

Even in freemode there is a certain amount of friendliness but, it is harder to find.

Passive mode is quite effective when in a public lobby and I find it most amusing to just sit back and watch the chaos, just remember to stand on a raised area (so no one can run you over) and run (or leave passive mode to destroy them) if you see a fire engine coming at you as the water cannon can still kill you.

Join a crew. Hit a private lobby. Wander round a public room in passive mode. It's all fun and it's all there for the taking.

👍

I'm inclined to disagree sorry. :indiff:

Why should those of us who want to wander around a 'free' world (where anyone can come and go) have restrictions placed on us/be penalised for doing so?

Since we don't have the option of a friendly free roam, we HAVE to go into passive mode - which obviously isn't that protective, or we HAVE to resort to joining a friendly crew (where they can still accidently shoot and kill us), or inviting people on our friends list to a private room.

Because we're not that interested in the 'danger' of a free-for-all world, we get the short end of the stick by having to use alternative modes.

How is that fair?

We had the option in previous titles, and they were extremely popular - but now we get shafted?

I think you're looking for another game, it's called The Sims.

The option you speak of was only in GTA IV and that has now been replaced with passive mode. Also, the map is big enough for you to avoid the danger you fear so greatly.

There is no way R* will implement this feature, they've added passive mode to accommodate people who don't want to be killed all the time.

Also, what's so bad about passive mode or joining a crew? Why are you so worried about being killed whether its on purpose or by mistake? If you join a crew of people who feel the same way you do, there is nothing to worry about. Have you tried a role play event?

The game is based on all kinds of criminal activity and a whole load of killing, why not join in on it instead of going through all this trouble to have the game substantially changed?

If they do make the change, I'll eat a bunch of hats.

I also suggest making a FB page based on finding like minded gamers to play with instead of asking for an update, you'll have more chance of having a friendly game.

One thing that annoys me is when people say that i should be playing another game. This is the segregation issue that the lack of this mode is causing.

It was in GTA IV and Red Dead (pretty much the same type of game, except one has less buildings and cars) and was replaced, so you say, with a 'passive mode', which is rather ineffective.

I've explained already why the other modes don't suit, you might want to re-read my post.

You're right, it is based on a lot of criminal activity, but they've also added in non criminal activities too for when you don't feel like causing chaos or being a part of it.

And your suggestion of me going to the trouble of finding like minded players to play with proves my point that this mode is needed, as in the past all i had to do was enter friendly free roam.
Now i have to search for and join the right crew, ask on forums/other websites, try find friends who play the game, and fill up my friends list all just to play the game without as much violence. If that isn't an inconvenience for something so simple, i don't know what is.

Trust me, the kinds of people who would kill you normally aren't going to be any better in a 'peaceful' lobby. GTA V has a lot more griefing potential, so instead of people killing you, you'd end up with people ramming you, running you over, blocking you in stores with their cars, taking your cars with the cargobob, etc. You'll be playing against griefers either way, but you won't have a way to fight back if they DO try and pick you up and drop you a few miles out into the ocean.

You can always shoot the helicopter down.

And there has always been ramming/running over in friendly free roam in the past, but it still seemed to not kill you as easily. Same with explosions i think.

...Having a Friendly Free Roam mode would bring me back to GTA Online...

I play "invite only" quite a lot, it's effectively single-player multiplayer. All the missions are available from the game characters (Martin, Gerald, Lester etc) and it's pretty good.

If you want other human players in the game then obviously you'll either need to join a friendly crew or put up with Humans :D

GTA Online is like those kids drawing a beautiful house by a beautiful lake and beautiful weather and a beautiful horse. And then they draw a B-52 bomber to blow everything up.

Seriously, the environments are awesome and got so much potential for just exploring and adventures. But it's all ruined by too much violence. Sure, passive mode works somewhat while on foot, but the moment you enter a car you're dead.

Out of interest are you on the old gen or the current gen?

We had this in Red Dead Redemption. It sucked. People would draw shotguns, and aim slightly off to your horse. The spread would kill it. They couldn't kill you, but the spread would make aiming very difficult.

Point is, you'll still be dealing with asses, you just can't stop them in a casual lobby. In normal free roam, I have two words for you: Heavy Sniper.

All you have to do to avoid this is play in private online lobbies. Why was this thread bumped from last July?
