I had beat the game before the trophies were released and it wouldn't let me get any unless I start a new game and start all over. Now I'm getting lots, but annoyed that they didn't update themselves.

I did that too and didn't quite finish getting all the single player trophies... and the kicker is, my PS3 broke, so I backed up the hard drive, formatted it like they said, and sent it out.

I get a new one back, restore my hardrive backup from my external HD and find that it did NOT back up my saves.... so I'm playing through the game for the 3rd time now... just opened up the 2nd island.

A friend at work had the exact same thing happen to him as well, though he was not restoring the backup to a different console, just a new hard drive. I guess there is some strange bug that causes saves to not be backed up at all or not restore for some reason (even the saves without copy protection).

I made sure to make seperate backups of my saves when I swapped in my new 320GB HDD. But the normal backup worked fine for me, so I didn't end up needing them.
