GTAIV PS3 - Strange Glitch

Hello all, newbie poster here with a strange problem.

I've had the GTAIV game for my PS3 Slim now for some time, but with an extra few days off over the weekend I decided to get back into it (only having played it briefly before).

I'm about 25% into the game and something weird has happened. I've just done the mission which involves Nico meeting a guy in a restaurant (Out of the Closet I think...) I shot French Tom and left the restaurant and my controller went nuts. It is stuck in the "aim" position (as if I'm holding the L2 button down). I can't changes weapons or anything, all I can do is fire.

I've restarted the console, loaded from the last save point but it's still the same. The actual controller is fine, I can navigate normally in all other games.

Is there anything I can do, I don't want to have to start from scratch! :ouch:
 
You don't do multiple save points? It's safer that way. (And you'll want to do multiple save points so you can get both endings easily).
 
Patch the game when PSN is back up? Force yourself to get killed/busted (I think death is better as you keep your guns)? Try to get nudged by a car which will knock you out of aiming?

No idea if any will work but it's worth a shot.
 
I think getting your character offed is the best idea... that should get him out of "Aim" mode.
 
Try not to shoot him.

And if it still doesn't work, get to the nearest street and let some cars hit you to death.
 
It may be your controller check on other games because I once had this controller that would do sort of the same thing except go in and out of aiming
