Gran Turismo Motor Sports Association presents
The Mazda Cup Spec-Racing Series
Round 2 Race: Mazda Duel in the East

Twin_ring_motegi.gif

Track: Twin Ring Motegi East Course - 2.13 miles (3.41km)
Deadline: February 16th 5p CST

Round 2 takes place at Twin Ring Motegi East, a shorter version incorporating most of the track while leaving off about 1 mile of in-field track section. This gives the East Course a unique set of quick ess-corners that will challenge the drivers to keep speeds up while staying on the racing line as they launch into Motegi's long straights.

I'm really beginning to like this little course, once you get those esses figured it flows quite nicely. I've had one run but I didn't get within a second of my quali. on any lap. Gonna go give it another go right now.

I'm going to have to bow out of this tournament guys. I hate to say it, but I've got too much going on right now to find the time to race in more than one series, and I'm taking JGTC for now (and even then, I don't know). With GT4, Club racing, work, and other spring stuff, I just don't have the time.

I guess, Andy, Neil, and James, you'll just have to chase after Samantha!

That will be nothing new, I've been chasing women my whole life, I've caught one or two but most get away :)

Well at least I'm in the same country, should make it a little easier! ;)

Are you still gonna be able to do the admin here Chris? I hope so!

Neil

I hope so Neil. I'm going to try and do better than I did this week!

Dont' worry, there will be another LMS season. I've put too much work into that to have it collapse, and I like running it and driving in it!

I'm also working on a BTCC championship (and right now those little buggers are FUN TO DRIVE) but GTMode championships just aren't the same.

It's cool to see a girl that fast, so I don't mind at all:).

You can try.
I just did a run in the MX5 all but 2 laps were in the 1'32s, but by the end the car had lost 6bhp.
I dont know if i should run it again as my first laps were quite quick.
I think Ive got used to the RX7, though my best race is still the one where I dont crash.

Well,
I've had an interesting evening. Thankfully I'm drinking alcohol free beer, so my hands are steady, and my eyes ain't dim.

I was doing the RX7 race, and every now and again when I up-shifted I got either two or three gears instead of one.
(The wheel would do this every so often and has done for the last few months, then it goes away for a bit.)
Then I started getting no down shift at the end of the straights (once it waited till I was parked in the gravel, and shifted down from 5th to 1st all by itself). Occasionally I would down-shift for a corner, and then the car would up-shift all by itself back to the gear I shifted from!

Needless to say, after an hour of this I was a little perturbed, and Anne was saying she would buy me a new DFP when she got her tax-rebate next week.
I didn't think this was fair, so I started searching on the planet for a thread about this problem, and found one started by Oldphart (J.R.) (bless his cotton socks:sick: ), and found an answer by MinorShunt (thanks dude! ) that suggested that the soldered joints on the switch was at fault.
So,
following the methodology provided, I stripped the wheel off the base, took off the face plate, got out my soldering iron and prepared to re-solder the pins.

What did I find?

Not a dry-joint, that's for sure! I found a collapsed switch instead!

Now, I was facing a long trip to the nearest Maplins for a new switch, or having to buy a new DFP!

Then 💡 I remembered that I had an old Logitech Formula Force (PC) wheel, consigned to the loft, and maybe it had the same switches in it......

So I stripped that wheel down too, and it did! :D
I un-soldered one of the switches, un-soldered the one in the DFP, and replaced it with the one from the old wheel.

Hey Presto! A fully working DFP and now 3 more replacement mini-switches for future failures!:) :)

And the moral of this story?

Never throw anything away, especially electronic hardware! You never know when it may come in usefull for spares!

Oh, yeah! And I can now get back to racing! 👍

I just keep buying Wireless DS2's, as they tend to have flights into walls once in a while.

That's why you need a wired controller, so you can swing it around into the floor:lol:.
Just like what MisterWeary did:lol:(I think).

Bit quiet round here, ain't it?

Nearly done with the RX7, maybe, now onto the MX5 for a couple.

Neil

I haven't done this yet, tried but didn't finish a race.
I will get it done before the deadline so don't worry:).

I assumed the deadline was the 10th & submitted my times. :dunce:

Trying to wrap up a Tourist Trophy team championship elsewhere , so I could us the spare time anyway.

Done with these races!

Liked it for a while, but the 'nature' of Motegi East has just erroded my enthusiasm for these combo's.

Not fast enough, I am sure, PM's going to Chris shortly.

Off to DF for the JGTC race.

Neil

Sorry for the double post!

It would seem that Chris is 'off-air' for some reason or other,

It has to be said, that Motegi, is not my favorite track. By a long shot!

Neil

I'm assuming Chris will eventually post the official results, but for the sake of comparison in the meantime...

Any more takers?

Sorry guys, but I don't have the ... well ... anything to keep this series running. If someone wants to keep the series going, i pretty much have the background files and posts, but i dont' have the time or ambition to keep the Mazda Cup running. Right now, I'm shutting it down in favor of my JGTC effort and testing for GTMSA's LMS series coming this spring.

I am sorry for this, and no this is not the way GTMSA runs it's series, but things just conspired against me in this time of year that has forced me to cancel this series. I completely lost my interest and drive in GTP for weeks, and haven't really found the desire to race lately yet, but I will say that you all have been great competitors, and thank you for trying out the series. Judging by the interest, we have a lot of good new people too, and I encourage you all to ask the veterans (sorry Andy and Neil) about the LMS series and keep an eye out.

Again, thank you for checking out the Mazda Cup and keep an eye out for LMS competition. Sorry this series couldn't be more.
