The Spec Mazda Cup: Spec Miata and Spec RX-7​


GTMSA, who have thus far brought you the GTPLMS Series, has now created a championship to pit drivers against each other in identical cars to see who is the best...The Spec Mazda Cup. By popular demand, Spec Miata has been created to showcase driver skill in a lightweight, lower-horsepower car. Also, for those who have a desire for faster cars, GTMSA has created Spec RX-7, which showcases one of Mazda's premier sports cars in a contest of speed, guts, and nerve.
These two classes will be run on the same course during the same weeks. This will be a GT-Mode championship running 5 rounds, 1 per week. Each race will be roughly 50 miles (~ 80km), and will have both a qualifying "hot-lap" and a feature race, both to be done in the same week of competition. The schedule is shown below:

Points for the MX-5 Cup will be based on the number of entries. 1st place will receive as many points as there are competitors, with each finisher thereafter receiving one less point.
ex: 14 starters for R1: 1st - 14pts, 2nd - 13pts, 3rd - 12pts, etc.
This point system was designed to compensate for the number of entries, and also to keep the competition close. This will hopefully encourage many drivers to participate, and since it is Spec Racing, anyone has a chance to win. Qualifying on pole will also give you 1pt, and the driver with the fastest lap in the race will also receive 1pt.

The car(s) we will be using and the allowed modifications are listed below. These will be BOUGHT BRAND NEW from the manufacturers and modifications fitted before the first round you compete in.

Races will begin at the end of the GTPLMS Season, approximately January 10th. Signup is always open, but those who want to compete for Season Championships please register before then. You can race in both classes if you so desire, I have NO problem with that.

Sorry I'm confused. Are we basically gonna do like free-run in GT-Mode, or are we going to race against AI driver? And for MX-5, are gonna race top on or off?

right now it's free-run, as the longer-races don't really offer suitable competition. As for tops, it's driver's choice. Technically, tops on, but I'm using my rules, not another sanctioning body, so it's really up to you.

I'm really enjoying these cars! 👍 The RX-7 is more fun, but the Miata will probably improve my driving the most. I'm liking the limited adjustability too. Less Tuning = More Driving. Maybe I'll finally learn more about what camber does or doesn't do. :sly:

Is it possible to let the challenge run over 10 weeks, so that we have 2 weeks for each run?!

I'm thinking about participating in here, but I think that one week for a hot lap and a run over ~80km is a very short time. So it could be, that I can only do a "one-shot" in some of the runs.

If we would get 2 weeks for each run, we could do the hot-lap in the first week, and the race in the second week.

Not to alienate anyone or push someone away from what's going to be a great series, but No Way. 80 klicks is NOTHING compared to JGTC and LMS, it's a walk in the park. I've done a lot personally of "one-and-done" races this year...kinda makes it more interesting doesn't it?, if you only get one shot at a race, as in Real Life?

But no, I'm doing this series partially for experience in GTMode Series and partially as a buffer between LMS seasons. GTMSA has a LOT of other series ideas in mind too...

yeah, absolutely. I never really close my registration for GTMSA events. Whomever wants to join up can at anytime in the season. Either PM me and/or post your registration in this thread, buy the cars, and go to it.
