It doesn't look as good as other Mercs of the time. My gut reaction was uncool; it seems to be on the cusp of "granite old Merc" and "budget late 80s/early 90s Merc". However, it will turn heads for the right reasons. I'd love to own one.

Cool

Had it just been the W126 SEC (the 2-door coupe) it would have been a solid cool. But the 4-door is just so unremarkably dull looking.

The sedan/saloon version was made up until 1993. It was the coupe that went out of production in '91. ;)

The coupe is included in the nomination.

Either, a member of 1980s parliament has arrived, or there's a little yellow taxi sign on the side of a road somewhere.

Uncool.

The coupe looks elegant as it's got older and the 4 door version does look nicer now but they still aren't major head turners. But I do appreciate them. Scrapes a cool.

Bargetastic!!

Very handsome in 4dr and 2dr form and built like tanks.

Cool.

Hmm, cool for the way they 'surf' the tidal wave of torque, as all big Mercs seem to do and I remember, the SEC had arms that offered the seat belts to you.

Awesome build quality and over-engineered but if something goes wrong be prepared to scrap it.

One of the best Benzes ever built. Unfortunately, it just doesn't have the presence of the succeeding W140 and doesn't really stand out on the road. Lacks the gangster appeal of the W140, too. Still, it's cool.

Great car, and a cool coupe, but not enough to make it anything more than meh for me.

The only thing that saves this car from uncool is this:

Cool back when it was new. Slumped to a meh today. Just another old Merc, and not one of the more memorable ones. The only thing remaining that's cool is that it probably has a half million miles on the odometer.

The SEC was a big, cool, intimidating car. Even the replacement (eventually named) CL paled in comparison, despite the sedan it was based on being so much more imposing than the sedan the SEC was based on.

The regular S was a generic big sedan. It was so because it set the template for what a generic big sedan looked like, but it still was.
