Body Style: 3-door hatchback
Engines: 1.8L BPD turbocharged inline-4
Power: 209hp
Torque: 184lb-ft
Weight: 1180kg
Transmission: 5-speed manual
Drivetrain: Front-engine, all-wheel drive
Additional information: Based on the Group A homologation special Familia GT-R, the GTAe is a stripped "rally-spec" version of the turbocharged Japanese hatchback, with close-ratio gears, a new larger rear wing, all of the power features removed (air-con was available as an option - ABS was removed), and the lighter cloth interior from the Familia GT-X instead of leather, as is standard in the GT-R.

I'm torn on this one. First off, I love Japanese sports cars of this era, and I'd take the Mazda over its rival, the Nissan Pulsar GTi-R. But, to the non-car person, there's just not enough to differentiate it from an old economy car. There's also virtually zero stock ones left, which really sucks.

I've gone with cool - mainly because I've never heard of this model Mazda before and because I love boxy 90's cars :D

It doesn't exactly screams "cool" to a non-car nut, soooo...
Meh
It's a shame because it looks awesome even on paper

It has a sort of Q car cool appeal IMO. Sleeper stuff, no one knows what it is unless you're an enthusiast. If you do know what it is, you know it's one of the few unreliable Japanese cars out there and they eat transmissions like other cars go through tires. Obviously has to do with the owner/driver as well, but that's what 200+ bhp in a very small car does to you.

Nowhere near as cool as a contemporary Delta HF Integrale or ST185 Celica GT-Four, but it’s got that charm to it that a lot of it’s rivals didn’t and it’s got a respectable amount of power even for today. High cool, but decided to be generous and give it a Sub-Zero anyway.

A rally homologation special without the cachet of the Intergale, Quattro. GT-Fout etc. any cachet because no one outside of Japan - or hard-core JDM fans know about it.

It's weird, but the older I get, the more I love cars from the 90s.
