A 306 equipped with the 2.0 16V and a manual would make for a somewhat decent driving experience, but as a whole, this was a pretty boring car. Just like the Vauxhall Astra convertible, it was the kind of car for someone who couldn't afford a proper sports roadster.

The 306's driving and handling capabilities were so-so, and it other than color options like yellow, orange, and a forest green, it really had nothing exciting going for it. Adding insult to injury, owners of these cars generally didn't enjoy them, according to a survey done by JD Power.

Eh, there's worse cabriolets out there *cough* Murano *cough*, but this one is OK to me. If I were to drive one, I'd choose this one ↓

Meh.

I generally find this far more likeable than its successor, the 307 CC. It is surprisingly light too. BUT, I wouldn't trust a French car company in the 90's to create reliable soft-top mechanisms.

Meh.

Yes, in the same way that being jabbed in the eyes with hot spoons is better than catching Ebola.

Seriously uncool, a horrid conversion of an already-horrid car.

I think most people would look silly in any convertible version of a hatchback and thus that's why it's uncool. With that said, I would have voted higher if it was the hatchback version up for a poll.

Back in the day it may've been a smidge cool, a bit chic and uncomplicated attempt at the convertible lifestyle.

But it has aged like 🤬. Seriously uncool.

These old drop-top hatch redesigns tend to be a stain on the model range. Often the opposite of what the manufacturer expected of them.

Never thought that applied with the 306 somehow. This rework better suits the original 306 styling than the hatch or saloon and for what it is, I'd call it a tasteful effort. All the Roland Garros later CCs have done is heighten it to a low cool.

The hatch would've been meh, the GTI hatch would've been Cool, but this is just plain Uncool.

Not sure where some of these opinions on 306s have come from. I had a phase 2 XSI and its handling was superb. Supple, grippy, and with passive rear steer, it was great fun out of tight roundabouts. The body of the cabriolet successfully evoques the 504 towards the rear and it is one of the more tasteful Cabrios of the era.

It's a solid cool in my book.

The only 306's that are remotely cool are the GTI and Rallye.

Also all the Peuguot Convertibles from this onwards aren't cool in the slightest.

Uncool.

504 cabriolets are cool, this is just bland. Give it another 10 years or so and it might start getting cooler. At least it doesn't have one of those goddam awful black roll bars like the 205 had. Uncool.

Every single hatchback cabriolet is instantly uncool. Removing almost all the practicality from what is really a triumph of packaging design so you can experience 3 days a year of wind-in-your-hair motoring, is just plain stupid. The same applies to those extreme hot hatches where they remove rear seats to fit a rear strut-brace. Uncool.

My aun.. no... err... an older female relative of some sort had a saloon model of the 306 some 10 years ago. I remember it looking quite nice, unlike the 307 hatch, which replaced it.

The cabriolet, on the other hand, looks like it'd be so much better if it had a real roof.
