Body Style: 3-door hatchback
Engines: 2.0L I4
Power: 197-200 hp
Torque: 159 ft lbs
Weight: 1050-1150 kg
Transmission: 6-speed manual
Drivetrain: Front-engine, Front-wheel drive
Additional Information: Replacing the old Clio 182, the 197 was bigger and heavier than its predecessor, but was faster thanks to more power and shorter gear ratios. 2008 saw the stiffer Cup chassis made available on the regular car following the Formula 1 inspired R27 limited edition. The 2009 facelift brought a marginal increase in power to 200hp and further tweaks to the Cup chassis.

The facelift was absolutely awful, but a Liquid Yellow 197 looks stellar. Very low cool I feel with the caveat that it's a 197.

always wonder why you didn't buy an MR version

As in a Clio V6?

Brand new, one of these was about £15000. The Clio V6 started at £22000 and now, they have held their value extremely well while the 197 can be had for about £5000.

So yeah. There's one particularly good reason why you didn't get an MR Clio.

Pre-facelift it was very good looking. After it... ugh...

As much as I like the Clio, it will have to be a meh.

Didn't aged well plus the older versions were better. Uncool.

I'm not entirely sure that's a general consensus. I seem to recall the press thought it moved the game on again from the 182 because of the wider track and brakes. Horses for courses, of course. A 182 Trophy is a fine thing indeed.

pretty much is, no one explains it better then Harry:

The newer one might of got slightly faster but it lost all the things that make a hot hatch good, it's nimbleness and responsiveness.

Is that so? Well actually I was just looking at the design standpoint the 197 Clio. They may have changed the design of the Clio but that back end is horrendous though. It started to look like the older Renault Megane.

I was behind a Trophy recently. For me that's up there with being close to an unmolested Mk.1 Focus RS and E46 CSL. They've all been replaced by more capable cars that were nowhere near as special.

All the RenaultSport cars have been pure fun machines, which for me makes them cool. Ain't no Williams Clio though, so it ain't no SZ.

Cool. The last good hot Clio, as the current Clio 220 is a shadow of it's predecessors IMO.

I personally prefer the Clio 197/200 to the Mk2 182. However, I will admit the Clio 182 Trophy is an exception, as that's a brilliant hot hatch, definitely up with there with the likes of the Mk1 Focus RS IMO.

Probably an absolute riot to drive, but they're a bit chavvy in terms of image.

Meh.

Been in a lightly tweaked 200 Cup at Der 'Ring. For cheapish track day thrills it does everything as well as one would hope. I don't mind the facelift but the original had arguably the prettiest Clio face.

Still far too laddish to be considered cool.
