GTP-DTM Season 3: Round 1 - El Capitan (31 Laps)

Yes, after a relatively long off-season, the GTP-DTM series is back on, with new rules, and a new car class. This season looks to be the most competitive thus far with 14 entries in the m-klasse and 9 entries in the k-klasse. And it all starts with El Capitan, located in the very scenic Yellowstone Park, but this course is very challenging and you have little to no time to enjoy the scenery as you are constantly going up and down with 60+ meters of elevation change. Your qualifying + race times must be sent to me by Sunday, March 23 at 23:59 EST (GMT -5) or 6:59 GMT.

Quick Question on Race rules. When doing pit stops is it mandatory to fill up all the way on fuel? I have checked into whether it makes a difference or not and haven't found anything that says it does. I just want to know the race specifics on this. Thanks

I also didn't see anything as far as tire wear settings for the race (I am assuming strong tire wear.) As well as whether we get to select the level of difficulty for the AI or if they will be set at +10 for all races.

You're not required to fill the car full of fuel, but you are required to fill the car with fuel, you can fill it up with as little as 1 liter if you'd like.

Tire wear should be set to strong, AI can be set to whatever you'd like.
 
dang! I forgot that tire wear must be set on strong.
Oh well, back to the race track. I'll be back with some times.
 
Did a quick race last night (can 31 laps at El Capitan be considered "quick?") in the 190E and found some interesting things.

First, Qualified on RM/RM to be able to start the race that way too. 10 laps Qualifying is usually enough to get a rhythm and a good time. Gearing is a little off but not bad, should fix it for the race (Always go a couple ticks lower for draft and other purposes).

The race started fairly well, had the lead after about 3 laps. Clean racing here is TOUGH with the AI set to +10 on RS/RS tires. Is that in the rules somewhere?

But I noticed something. This little 190E eats front tires for breakfast. I had to pit on lap 5 with shredded fronts. Pop on an RH/RM combination and voila!, a rocket ship. :)

spent the next 21 laps like that, lapped the crazy Lister twice in 5 laps (sand traps are a b*tch), and came in for fresh RM/RS rubber for the last 5 laps. Fuelled twice, but not much. Needed an extra 20L to finish the race, ended with about 3 left in the tank. :nervous:

Overall MOV: 1:10+s over the Motul Pitworks Z (Ended up with a SuperGT GT500 Lineup)
4 stops, fuel on 2 & 4
No penalties.

This Aussie doesn't believe everything you write .. your no 'amateur' to begin with .
 
Well, took out the TT-R for a little jaunt around Yellowstone. She's a good car, no slippage coming out of low-speed corners, but the tire wear is a little unacceptable. Something I'll have to deal with. Funny thing was with hard fronts on, I was only 1s off my times with mediums on the front. !!! Imagine my surprise.

El Capitan is a good starting round, well picked TS. It combines the high-speed sections with slow technical sections as well. If it wasn't for the jump after the tunnel, I'd be using this track as a test-bed.

My time's not going to win any awards, or podiums probably, but it's getting sent tonight. Good luck all

Well, comparatively slow. mainly the little loop at the end of the track, tight 180 right, double apex left, quick left over bridge, slow-ish left, and double-apex right. It's a good technical section, and if you get out of there well, you're 1/2 a second up.

erm...I just noticed something.

On the Mercedes CLK, the weight is -5% (1050)...should be +5% (1050)

Same with the 190E, the weight (999) is +2% (I believe, don't quote me on that), not -1%
 
OOOOOhh yeah, I am free and clear this weekend, the lady is out of town thru Wednesday and I haven't touched GT4 in over a week. Cannot wait!

Q lap was a 1'31.6## but it don't matter now, i fear that with the release of gt5-p i may drop out. the online bit will have me hooked, i already spend to much time playing COD4 lol. Work, my girl, WRS, ATR, DTM, COD4, and GT5-p, i Just Don't Have The Time Captain!!!!!!!!

There are 2 of these 6 turns, that if taken correctly , will drop your lap time by around a second :)

Was half way through El Capitan this morning but crashed into the rock face on the hill after getting clipped by a Merc, so will have to find time to race again sometime in the next 24 hours .. not sure if i'll get into the 190E yet .

Love this track and love the AUDI TT .
 
K-Classe and M-Klasse completed today... 70+ laps of El Cap sure is taxing on the old thumbs :(

I hear that. Was over a friend's house last night playing GT5HD on his 40" LCD and was blown away. Fortunately I don't have a PS3 but when GT5P comes out you can bet I'll be over there at first more than I'll be in my own basement.
 
Times submitted :nervous: re-started the race for a 4th time after crashing between L11 and L15 on each previous attempt .

Ran a 4 stopper using {R/F} RS/RM 3 stints RM/RH 2 stints .
 
Times sent. Here's hoping for some good results to start off Season 3.:D
