Do the words contained in a thread dictate which 'adverts' are shown on that page?
I ask because; when I'm looking at the "Galaxy SIII" thread, 99.9% of the time there's an advert for one showing. Then, when I was looking at the "Driving Test" thread, it was an advert for Driving lessons. :p

So, does it? :)

Thanks.
Zm.

Right now I have a single Range Rover ad at the top. So... maybe not.

GTP has so few ads (Actually, only one) that I really dont care.
Big S/O to Jordan for that!

That's why on computers I'm not usually using I get a load of Chinese gibberish!

Yup, it does, it's spelled out pretty clearly in the Privacy Policy.

Those of you who use Ad-block and are not premium, you should consider unblocking GTP ads once in a while and clicking on them, that click revenue helps pay for and sustain the site.

Hotlinking fail.

Yes. That's how Google Adsense works.

Thanks daan for giving me a straight-forward answer :)👍 (as opposed to some of the other nonsense posted )

I'm one of those sad people that finds this kind of thing interesting. :D

My wife used my laptop to look for some shelves, and she ended up looking through bigdug (other shelving sites are available) but didn't buy anything and, ever since then, all the adverts that have appeared on youtube videos have been from bigdug.

Let's put the theory to the test;

Samsung Galaxy S3 :D

I keep getting shown a 'used car' ad.:p

A while back I was looking for flights to Norway, and spent a while browsing the SAS Airlines website. Since then every advert I have seen has either been by SAS themselves, or some other company that sells flights/cruises to Norway.

Despite having looked at thousands of various company websites since then, I just can't shake these bloody vikings! I wonder if it'd stop if I flew to Norway, or if they'd try to tempt me back again and again...

Why don't you take a flight over here and find out? :sly:

Still, what are these ads you people are talking about? :D

I have premo membership so never see ads regardless. adblock in FF failed for me so I bit the reasonably priced bullet ;)

It really is very interesting, and it's a great system that allows smaller web publishers like myself to automatically show relevant ads to each individual user. That's more important than ever as ad-blockers undermine the business model of free websites like this one. You can learn more about how the ad targeting works here.

If I did upgrade to Premium (seriously considering it :)), I don't want to do that^, so I assume, when you're premium, you can still 'see' ads(?)

Tbh, I fail to see why they would bother you so much as to force you to block them altogether.

EDIT: Do you need a paypal account to pay for the 'upgrade'?

No, you don't see any advertisements on the site when you're a Premium member.

Most people use ad blockers because they've had bad experiences with websites that abused ads in annoying ways. The problem is that ad-blocking software blocks ads on all websites by default, which eventually undermines every webmaster who provides their content and services to visitors at no charge.

The irony is that the ultimate losers are all of us who love and use free web sites and services, which could only exist at the scale they do because of their advertising business models (think Google, YouTube, PhotoBucket, or Facebook).

The more difficult it is and the longer it takes a website or online service to earn revenue, the less likely a webmaster or entrepreneur will be to invest their time or money in building it.

Zamado just went Premium! :sly:👍

Begone standard peasants! 👎:D

And!...And!...Ads are Allowed! :p (No,...hang on...)

Is there a feature which let's you change the default colour of the text you type?

EDIT: And, can I only have my Username changed once every year?
What if my new name doesn't grow on me? Can I have it changed back immediately?

No, you don't see any advertisements on the site when you're a Premium member.

Kinda' shot yourself in the foot with that one, didn't you?

Thanks.

BTW, just to add to the context of this thread relating to Premium Membership
You'll also be listed on GTPlanet's Forum Leaders page, alongside our administrators and moderators!
I don't see a 'Forum Leaders' list when I click the link in that particular post/article :(

Let's not go there, thanks.

No. Everyone who does that must do so for each and every post them make.

Once per year. If you want to change your name, you'd better make sure you like what you're changing it to.

Why? Ads are to generate income to keep GTPlanet running. If you've paid for Premium, you've also paid to keep GTPlanet running, the side benefit being no more ads.

The Forum leaders can be found here https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showgroups.php however it looks like Premium users are no longer listed.

Usually there is a small 'i' in the corner of the ad, click on this and it'll take you to an options page where you can uncheck the option to have targeted ads or you can simply remove your history so you get new ads.

I often make sure to do it if I've been shopping for gifts for my girlfriend as she uses my laptop and I don't want her seeing what I've been searching for!
