You are reading 'GTPlanet news and Interviews' Edition #001.

Welcome to the first ever article produced for the Drifting section! In this edition we will cover the basics and what to expect from our team in the coming weeks!
We will cover topics presented in the forums of the drifting community and explain what we think of the situation and how we can improve all the aspects of the Drifting section of GTPlanet.
News.

newss.jpg

This week we saw the beginning of Gran Turismo 5’s biggest drift competition yet! With over 80 entries and a successful turnout, SPANK deserves applause from everybody for his hard work. London proved a difficult task for some drifters but others really shone bright and showed that they are the drift kings!
Registration closes on the: Tuesday the 8th of January
Many new drifters joined this week and some prove to be great additions to the drifting community.

Caramel joined us from Forza and has shown us his prior success with his successful YouTube channel and recognition by ‘Turn 10’ the producers of Forza themselves.

DriftIdiot joined us and like Caramel has a successful channel on YouTube. He is a real life drifter and as well as learning to drift in real life he is also learning on Gran Turismo too.
Make them and all others feel welcome here at GTPlanet keeping everything fun and lively.

Interviews
interviewsf.jpg

Nate(Knight_Spirit) who has been here from the start and has been through all the ups and downs of the drifting experience and would like to share his ideas and viewpoints. Milena Silva (DarkAvengerZR1) who has made quite the name for herself here at GTPlanet, seems to have an enthusiastic take on anything I threw at her!

First up is: DarkAvengerzr1

Interviewer
When did you first discover your joy for drifting?

Millena Silva
When? Hmm... I think it was with Need For Speed Underground. Since then I always liked it. I spent time looking at videos on the internet too.

Interviewer
Do you drift in real life?

Millena Silva
No, but I really want to learn someday.

Interviewer
Have you signed up for VDC this season?

Millena Silva
I wish! Lol, sadly no, because I would not be able to do all the stages and I can't play on Sundays, because I visit my father. So, time incompatibility.

Interviewer
Who do you think will win Pro and Pro-Am?

Millena Silva
I actually have no idea! lol

Interviewer
How has your stay at GTPlanet been so far?

Millena Silva
Fine, even with the few troubles.

Interviewer
Would you like to expand on that?

Millena Silva
No. But they are common around me.
Have to learn to deal with it lol.

Interviewer
Have you found a team here at GTPlanet?

Millena Silva
Yes, but I left. I was part of RSM for what, a week? But people have settled on me... lots of things happened lol.

Interviewer
Which members of GTPlanet do you feel that you can have a nice time drifting and talking with?

Millena Silva
Pretty much anyone from RSM, MLD_PUSH, Natty and quite lot of people. Sorry, I can't really remember their names. Sorry guys.

Interviewer
What is your opinion on people that use cars that are looked down upon for drifting?

Millena Silva
I think it is fine, but if everyone in a lobby is using street rwd ones, you better blend in and use something like it.

Interviewer
Who do you think is the best all round drifter at the moment on GTPlanet?

Millena Silva
Natty. Or Natalia90, as her GTP username.

Interviewer
What for you could improve your drifting experience?

Millena Silva
I think, better physics, EBISU!! And obviously, I need a steering wheel. Lol

Interviewer
Anything else you would like to add?

Millena Silva
I would like to say thanks, to you. And leave here, a quote. “If you are afraid to have a 🤬, don't eat. "

Interesting :dunce:

Now the great Night_Spirit
First of I would like to mention it was a pleasure to interview him as he is an all-round good guy.

Interviewer: When did you first find drifting?

Knight_Spirit: I was playing my dad & we were doing a drift event on this little figure of 8 track
I just raced round the track and finished first, not realising really what we were doing. Of course I didn't win because I wasn't drifting and my dad explained to me that you were supposed to slide round the track to get points.
From there I bought Kaido Racer 2 and got into Pixel Cars, both those two things led me to watching drifting and D1 on YouTube and I made a tonne of friends through forums etc. who taught me about drifting and my love for it just escalated
Played a lot of GT4 but never really got the hang of drifting on it... Was really hyped when GT5 came out and jumped into an online try-out room for a drift team
Met Chris (Frag), Alex (Saggy), and Kotkas (RIP <3 aahah) In that room and we began drifting together and started ACN (As it was known back then). Since then we merged with D-Trick and became D-Max. That's pretty much it

Interviewer: Have you entered VDC?

Knight_Spirit: I entered Season 1 of VDC, came like 8th overall. Skipped season 2. Joined Season three, only attended 1 event, qualified but didn't make it past the Top 16
Signed up for S4 but I will only attend a few events probably

Interviewer: How do you see this season playing out for you and who do you predict to win Pro and Pro-Am?

Knight_Spirit: I'm not entirely sure who signed up in which classes to be honest, but off personal experience my vote would be either Gauz or Ono.

Interviewer: What for you would improve your drifting experience on GT?

Knight_Spirit : aha well I'd like to see more Japanese Tracks such as Meihan, Nikko, Ebisu, Sekia Hills etc. And more cars such as Laurels & Ceffy's, all premium of course. Paintjobs would be good fun as well I guess...

Interviewer: Who for you is the number one drifter on GTPlanet?

Knight_Spirit: Does it have to be one? :D I'd have to go for either Sai-66, Gauz or Ono. Although the Nemesis guys are all sick as well :D

Interviewer: Your opinion on 4 wheel drive drifters?

Knight_Spirit: I don't mind them doing their thing, as long as they don't come into lobby's and ask me to turn 4WD on..

Interviewer: And to finish off is there anything you would like to add?

Knight_Spirit : Yeah Since I'm sorta retiring from the scene, I'd like to shout-out anyone who's drifted with me, made me laugh, raced, everything... All the guys at D-Max, Blackout, BURST, Nemesis & whatever reminants of Drop5 there are. Also anyone who raced in BTCC Series 1 & 2. Thanks :)

Interviewer: Well it's been great having you here and I hope that the rest of your experience on GTPlanet and GT5 is the best it can be.
Thank you.

Knight_Spirit: Cheers

The Dark Side.

The Dark side section discusses our team’s opinion on the minorities in Gran Turismo 5.

This week’s topic will be: Race cars

It’s no mystery the some drifters on Gran Turismo like the overpowering grip that race cars provide for drifting, but why is it looked down upon by most drifters?

Here’s why:

When people are drifting using their normal road cars race cars tend to be too fast for them and always end up nudging or completely ramming them out the way.

Another opinion shared throughout the community is that “they are nooby” “omg there so 🤬 ”. That is perfectly understandable because they are called “Race cars” and not Drift cars for a good reason.

I personally don’t mind them as long as they don’t get in the way and spoil everyone’s fun and I’m sure others share this viewpoint too.

Drifter of the week:
This week the award goes to MLD_PUSH, there is not much to it really apart from PUSH is one of the most, if not the most respected drifters on GTPlanet. His epic drifting and nice guy attitude is great to see on Gran Turismo and in the Forums!

You are reading 'GTPlanet news and Interviews' Edition #002.

Lots to cover this week as we have had plenty of excitement racing through the drifting section! We interview long time member Duman were we will talk about his views and his new video. Also joining us will be DriftIdiot were he will be sharing with us, his experience on GTPlanet and Gran Turismo 5.
News.
newsfu.jpg

On the weekend we saw VDC head over to London were there was some great drifting taking place. Many new members of GTPlanet joined in and showed the community there excellent drifting ability. Pro-am series had some real talent on show as Nyordia(Gonales) came 3rd In her pink ae86, but it was the new faces that showed their stuff in London as Just_one_ came 2nd and p3ngu1n_saph drifted his way to pole position managing to score those well-deserved points.
Heading over to the Pro series we had plenty of familiar faces taking part. Remember this is the Pro’s we are talking about so epic drifting was pretty much expected. MLD_Seb manages to snatch third a respectable 3rd place in the event and shows that he is one to look out for. Even though Redsuns leader Eric managed to pull off a podium finish he feels that his car was not good enough. “I am pretty sure I am switching also. I need something not N/A. I felt underpowered today anyway.” Winning the event we had MonsterGauz who drove fantastically all weekend showing that he is at the top of the sport. We caught up with Lukas and this is what he had to say “I found it very amazing considering that it was just the Pre-Season Event. It felt great to take this win although it won't count because it was challenging from the beginning till the end as I was only 8th in qualifying and had to go up against MLD_Xerox, ND_4_SPD_Naruto and RSM-Eric1512. I will have to carry this momentum through the season to stay decently successful.
Congrats to the Top3 and also to the Pro Am class winners. We got some freakin good new drivers popping up there!”
As always the drifting community is always growing and some new talent was found. New team “MCR (Mind Control Racing)” managed to get a good start to VDC with leader GreazyTee managing to get into the final 8 of VDC.

Thanks to SPANK for providing us with another great competition to keep us all up to scratch with our drifting skills.

In this week’s edition we have A Team BURST double as we get in Duman the great  and drift legend Adam (OnoMatoPeja_). Both provided a great interview and were great to talk to of the scenes!
In this edition we have the great OnoMatoPeja_ of Team BURST Illusion.

JSD-DUDDY
How's it going Ono?

Ono:
I'm doing good Daud, just finished doing some BTCC practicing with the D-max crew. Just before I fixed my wheel, the potentiometer was sticking and the wheel itself had some resetting problems.

JSD-DUDDY:
Nice, this week’s hot topic is tires. What do you think about people that use tires that are seen as "nooby" or "unrealistic"?

Ono:
I don't think bad about these people, everyone has an option to explore different tire types and to experiment. Not everyone is willing to step out of the group though and actually try something new. I think that people that use or try something else than Comfort Hard tires should be treated normally by the community. It's not like they're doing anything wrong after all right? Just respect their view.

JSD-DUDDY:
Right now for you what is your top drift car?

Ono:
My top drift car right now is probably my Mach 1 that has been running in VDC for the last 2 seasons. It has plenty of torque and power, and with a really good suspension setup and driver, the car handles really great with very little signs on understeer. If it wouldn't be the mach 1 though, then it would be my Murder FR-S, the car has only 380HP, but with my setup and my driving style it's really a tough car to beat. I can keep up with pretty much any car, I even managed to overtake a 1000HP corvette. I know I'm bragging here a little, but I'm answering the question.

JSD-DUDDY:
How did VDC go for you in London and do you feel your car was competitive?

Ono:
It went pretty bad, it wasn't my best day. Right now my room is getting a renovation and I'm on a temporary setup in a different room. As well as that, my brake pedal was sticking, sometimes even 50% on and off. Just to top that off, the qualifying was an hour earlier than it was said to be. So I didn't get enough time to get ready, therefore during my two runs the stress took over and I didn't perform like I would. Getting 65 as the qualifying score, didn't cut it to make the Top 8. And to answer the 2nd part of the question, yes my car one of the fastest, you could see it during practice.

JSD-DUDDY:
Do you feel that the drift community is friendly or negative?

Ono:
Most of the drift community is friendly, it depends if you talking about real life or GT5. On track, I'd say most people are really friendly and not really negative, although you do get the usual forum troll's armoured up behind their keyboard. Just like on every forum really. Overall though, I'd say the drift community is positive

JSD-DUDDY:
How does it feel to be a part of the great Team BURST?

Ono:
I always wanted to be a part of burst, since the first weeks of GT5. I got a chance for a try out but back then I was using Comfort Softs and Duman didn't really like that, so I didn't make it. Now I’ve been on Burst for quite a while, I think it was great in its prime times. As of right now, the team isn't as strong as it was, and the connection between members is nearly lost too. Hopefully some further GT5 updates will breathe some life into the team again, I don't know.

JSD-DUDDY:
What DLC/Gran Turismo 6' content do you hope for to improve your drifting experience?

Ono:
I was going to say livery editor, but that's not really important in drifting. I would say definitely less smoke... It really ruins the fun when tandeming, chasers get pissed off and the atmosphere is screwed up. Or if not that, I'd want to have more tuning options, such as tire size's, rim size's upgradeable brakes etc. As well as 0% to 100% drivetrain swap's. This would definitely breathe some life again into drift community.

JSD-DUDDY:
Who do you think is Number 1 in the drift scene?

Ono:
I don't know, there are so many drifters out there outside of GTPlanet that honestly, no one can tell who the best is. Out of people I know though it would probably be Sai-66 or monsterGAUZ. They both proved themselves to be really competitive before, to answer your question clearly though I'd say Sai.

JSD-DUDDY:
Where did drifting start for you?

Ono:
Drifting started for me back in probably 2007 on GTA: San Andreas, I also drifted in the usual games such as NFS etc. I then progressed to Live for Speed with my first wheel, the G25. Sometime before LFS was a time where I and a friend went to a pizza store to get a pizza. And there was a JDM All Stars Drift event that I just know I had to go to. I think from this time on, I really got the bug of drifting.

JSD-DUDDY:
Any members you would recommend to new members?

Ono:
I would recommend monsterGAUZ, really great drifter, you can learn a lot from him. MLD-Silk, he's really a unique guy that loves modding his drift rig, he's drift style is unique too. Decoy187, a great leader, with massive angles and fat transitions, if you want to learn following, he's the guy to follow. There are also other great drifters such as Lerk84, Ant, Sai, Kingb, MLD-Xerox and so on and so on... I probably forgot about 100 guys, so sorry. And also keep in my mind that the names I mentioned aren't in any order at all.

JSD-DUDDY:
Anything else you would like to add?

Ono:
Yes, I forgot to add Dom (Nyordia), she is probably the most defensive driver on GT5. Other than that I don't I'd like to add anything. Maybe just a good luck to any competitors in VDC. See you guys on track!

JSD-DUDDY:
Thanks for that Ono it was great to speak to you!

Ono:
No problem Daud, thanks for having me. !
Now we have BURST leader Duman!

JSD:DUDDY: Hi Duman, how is Team BURST doing on Gran Turismo and GTPlanet?

Duman: I think we are doing pretty well now. We actually started out of nothing, but worked ourselves to the top without having the intention to do so. We had to deal with some trouble, but we managed to stick together and we improved our skills. Especially thanks to the_kingb_, out team became one of the better ones on GTP along with some other teams. He made us get steering wheels, now everyone has got at least one wheel lol.

JSD:DUDDY: So, where did you find drifting?

Duman: Well in the beginning of the Gran Turismo series I was only interested in racing. I was very good with drifting at NFSU 1&2, but I never tried it on GT until GT5. Till then I only knew about the Falken drift team and D1GP. I love the Falken E30 M3. When I saw everyone having fun in the online GT5 lobbies, I wanted to start a team so I could have more fun. My mate named us Team Burst, he got the name from a burst cookie, I had no idea that team BURST were actually the best drifters there ever were.

JSD:DUDDY: Have you entered VDC this season?

Duman: To the first reply I'd like to add at the end : I am very happy with what we have now, we have a lot of fun together and I know that most of the guys will never leave. VDC, Unfortunately it is difficult to enter VDC, because I get home late on Saturday. The qualifications are done after I'm home. I think I might join the new season and ask if I can qualify later.

JSD:DUDDY: Now, this week’s hot topic is tyres. How do you feel about people using Comfort softs and above?

Duman: If you want me to be honest, I don't care. Most of the guys and girls I drift with use CH. I think a lot of people tried to convince the others to keep using CH, but some people prefer different tires. They should use whatever they want if the lobby has no restrictions. I won't change my room settings to anything else than CH though.

JSD:DUDDY: Congratulations on your video making the top of our article this week. Anything you would like to say?

Duman: I just want to thank everyone who helped me get the footage. I almost wanted to quit making it after I noticed that the forums were so inactive. Then I decided that the best thing to do was to get them back by showing them what we all have to do... Drift together.

JSD:DUDDY: Who do you think is the number one at the moment on GTPlanet?

Duman: Hmm this is a difficult question, I think it is better to ask who is the most successful and who the most complete drifter is. For me, the_kingb_ is the best drifter I have ever played with. He can't join the bigger lobbies because his internet won't let him join, but he can just do anything, in any car. Trust me I have seen all greatest drifters on GTP and outside GTP, but he is different. I always thought SAi-66 was the best, but all that time, I looked too far, because the best was always with me.

JSD:DUDDY: So, who is the most successful drifter on GTP?

That would be fcpmarcus, whatever he touches, turns into gold. He has podium in all events and he won a lot of competitions including FD. I think he needs some recognition too. I think that because people think because it's ''easier'' with the controller, he doesn't get what he deserves. But if it was so easy, everyone could win what he won right ?

Of course there are more who just have insane skills and achievements like monsterGAUZ. I think that if GAUZ would have joined a couple of more competitions, he would be the most successful person on GTP.

JSD:DUDDY: Anything you would like to add?

Duman: I would like to thank all my members for their support, I really appreciate their stay. I think I haven't said it enough, but it is such a good feeling to know that there is always someone who I can drift and talk with when I put my PS3 on. Some people think that a team is nothing more than just a name, but there are more things going on behind the scenes. Most of our members are not well known on GTP because they aren't competitive, but they are all very good in drifting.

On a side note : I'd like to thank GTP, thanks to GTP I got my team as it is now. Without it, we wouldn't know each other and we would never have been this close. I hope the amount of banned people will decrease or stop. Some people do not value what they have until they lose it.

JSD:DUDDY: It's been great talking to you Duman and thanks for showing up and having this conversation.

Duman: But I like cheese. Lol, same. I appreciate what you are doing. I think it is nice to hear the stories of all members. It's interesting to know what they think about some subjects.

JSD:DUDDY: It's not so easy when the mods don't enjoy your company

The Dark Side.

The Dark side section discusses our team’s opinion on the minorities in Gran Turismo 5.
This week’s topic will be: Tire choice.
It’s no mystery the some drifters on Gran Turismo like the overpowering grip that race cars provide for drifting, but why is it looked down upon by most drifters?
Well according to a survey on GTPlanet most drifters use Comfort tires in general, even though they use comforts the thing is that the tyre modelling in Gran Turismo is not very accurately displayed. Instead they just act as grip multipliers instead of behaving in the way a real tire would.
This makes in frustrating when you are drifting with people and there using a tire grade higher than you, and they either pull away from you when drifting or they end up hitting the back of you because they are not going fast enough to be able to keep their drift going.
The simple solution would be to make everyone use the same tire but it’s not as easy as that because everybody has their own preference of tire. A revolution was suggested by MonsterGAUZ which seems to have caught on with a few drifters and was even used in season 3 of VDC.
There will always be this difference because some people will stick with comforts hards.
Our solutions:
When drifting with your friend who uses grippier tires than you it may help to use a grippier or more powerful car so that they don’t have to keep hitting your bumper and you can keep up with them. But this does not work all the time. Little differences like hards and mediums should not make too much of a difference.

dotwn.jpg

Drifter of the week:
This time award goes to LERK84 for his open minded approach to the drifting community. He has helped and drifted with lots of us and that’s what gives him his place in this week’s drifter of the week!

Picture of the week:
KING OF SKULLS edited this amazing picture of his black rx-7. Looks very professionally done and he must have spent a lot of time on it.
