Every time I try to make my text bold or Italic or any other things like that it won't let me on Windows 7 Ultimate!
Also the forum works well on Ubuntu 11.04 on my computer so I believe it is a problem with Java!
Please do not tell me to just use Ubuntu as I'm not very comfortable on it!

Heres a video to show what I mean!

Also I tried Chrome, Firefox and IE and the same problem!

Thanks for the video. 👍 Unfortunately, I'm not sure what would be causing that problem for you - I can't recreate it on Windows 7 myself, nor have I heard any similar reports. Note that Java is only used on GTPlanet in the chat window, not any of the elements that you've shown here as broken, so you can safely cross that off as the source of the issue.

Most of them are, however, implemented with JavaScript, which, despite its name, is not related to Java. Make sure you've got JavaScript enabled in all of the browsers you are testing, and ensure there's no "security" software installed on your computer that could be interfering with the global execution of JavaScript on your machine.

Are you a member of any other forums with similar WYSIWYG editors? Are you able to use other rich-text, JavaScript based editors in Gmail, etc.?

I'm pretty sure that boards.ie uses the same forum software as GTPlanet and that seems to work well! Javascript i'm not sure but Comodo Firewall could be blocking that... also it decided to stop working after I installed the latest Java and the same thing happened on my mothers laptop when I was using that and that only had AVG 2011 (for security software) on it which I don't use on my computer so yea i'll look into javascript!

Also my mother's computer was running Windows Vista!

EDIT: Apparentally Javascript is enabled in Firefox yet the Forums still don't work correctlly :O

EDIT: Enabled in Chrome to :(

Hmm. GTPlanet's front-end code (including the post editor) has not been changed or modified for a little over a year now. Out of curiosity, what version of Java are you running on these systems?

Java 6 Update 24 (downgraded from 26) Also at this time on Ubuntu on the same computer and everything works Fine!

I'm running Update 26 on Windows 7, but can't replicate this issue. Once again, however, Java is not involved in any part of GTPlanet's pages or rich-text editors (with the exception of the chat room), so any influence it would have on them would be a strange and serious bug on its part.

Unfortunately, without more data, I'm out of ideas to help you resolve this. As you suspect installing Java originally caused the problem, you could try removing it completely from your system to see if that has any effect.

Please let me know if you're ever able to determine the cause of the problem.

After about a month on my mothers computer the problem went away by itself and in the meantime I could install ubuntu on a Virtualbox and use GTP from there!

You may also want to disable the WYSIWYG editor in your account options, if it's giving you any other posting problems.

This is very strange indeed.... especially the part where all browsers have the same problem indicating it's (most likely) a system wide problem, not a browser setting.

Would you be able to try the following:

1) Logout on GTPlanet
2) Disable any firewall/antivirus on your computer
3) Clear your browser cache (in chrome: Options -> Extra -> Clear browser cache (Ctrl+Shift+Del))
4) Go to GTPlanet again
5) Login
6) Try it now

This way we can make sure it has nothing to do with any firewall/antivirus blocking javascript.

After this you can enable the firewall/antivirus again ofcourse!
