GTPlanet Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring 2008

Ok so if the name didn't scare everyone off I'd like to propose a series similar to the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring (old VLN) which is essentially the German Endurance Racing Championships. Here are the ideas I had layed out and your more then welcome to chime in with yours.

Cars/Classes
There are many different classes of cars that compete in the VLN and as such I'd like to offer several different types here as well. Something similar to the GTPLMS series however of course we won't be using prototype cars.

Proposed Classes are as follows:

Speedpokal (Speed Cup) Class -

SP8 - Dodge Viper, Chevrolet Corvette, Nissan GT-R, ect.

E1-EX - Audi TT-R RC, Opel Astra, Merc CLK, Audi A4

SP3 - Renault Clio RC,

Serienwagen (Stock Car) Class -

V1 (1600cc)- VW Lupo, Mitsubishi Colt, Peugeot 106, Opel Corsa

V2 (1600cc - 1850cc)-

V3 (1850cc - 2000cc)- Ford Focus, Nissan Primera,

V4 (2000cc - 2500cc)-

V5 2500cc - 3000cc)-

V6D -

Cup Class

Honda Civic Cup - Civic Type R

Clio Cup (part of S3) - Renault Clio RC

Points Championships

GTPLN Long Distance Championship 2008 - Overall champion of the series

GTPLN Serieswagen Championship 2008 - Serienwagen class champion

GTPLN Speedpokal(Funny it's the Gran Turismo 4 Speed Cup in real life) - Speedpokal Class Champion

GTPLN Junior Trophaee 2008 -

Honda Civic Cup - Civic Cup Champion

Honda sport cup - Honda Overall Champion

Schedule

The championship is comprised of 10 races while 80% of these are counted towards the points race. Most of the events are 4 hours with a 6 hour and 8 hour enduro thrown in. With some talk between the GTPLMS and the WES I would also like to run two of those races (one with each) as dual series events if we can setup our classes correspondingly.

Races

Obviously not many people would be interested in racing the Green Hell for 4 hours with only 6 cars on the track (Heck we had to do that once already in the Simulation mode!) and those that do probably wouldn't be able to find the time with all the other events going on. The poll above has several lap combinations for the proposed series. Whichever option is selected due to the length of the track a two week period would be allowed for each race session.

Qualifying/Starting Line Ups

I was going for something a bit different here since we're using the same track each week. The starting lineups will be in reverse order of the points standings with a 5-10 second hold before each car is released, although testing and size of the field are yet to be determined. This should equalize the field somewhat and make things more competitive. Essentially after the race is completed you will have X seconds multiplied by your starting position added to your total race time.

If there is anything you would like to add or want more information about just ask.

So is anyone interested in something like this?

I like the sound of it. If this goes ahead I’ll probably compete.

An extremely novel concept. Interesting idea, seems pretty well thought out, and a couple of innovative ideas.

This seems a concept / interest instead of actual proposal, so here are a few things you might want to consider. The SuperGT cars are going to murder the DTM and Touring cars. Their aerodynamics are just better. But you said testing wasn't completed yet, so no problem here.

The inverse starting grid is a good idea actually, the more I thought about it, the more I liked it.

I've always thought of a "Support Race" for the LMS and/or SuperGT series, like Koni Challenge, Speed WorldChallenge, etc. But the LMS has never run at Nurburgring. I feel that it's a track that EVERYONE has to have in their schedule, and they don't. Right now the schedule for LMS is pretty full (yes, it's done already for S3), but if popular opinion prevails, perhaps we could work something out. As for WES, it's Neil's baby, but they're racing there this week. But he might be convinced to go back.

The cars may not be the same as well. stat-wise I mean. But the idea is very novel. Racing a Viper in LMS, then racing the same Viper with slightly different HP/Wgt characteristics should give fairly close performance. and lots of laps at the Ring. :)

I'll be keeping an eye on this.

Walks into room .. signs 'i'm interested papers' .. leaves room {tall blonde girl waiting for me outside}

I have no idea what you said in post 1, but it had Nurburgring in there somewhere, so im in if i have time.

:irked:👍

I like it too!
Don't know if it's the lack of sleep, the painkillers or the fact that I love the track, but I am actually looking forward to it.

I'm no 'Ring Wraith' but, the Nurburgring was a big part of why I bought GT4 (I hadn't even heard of GTPlanet then! )
Looking forward to seeing it in all it's HD glory when GT5 proper comes out!

Nurburgring? Viper? I'm all the way in 👍 And I'll gladly help with testing if you need.

Alright seeing the results of the poll most people would enjoy longer races so here is what i'd like to do.

The Vln is made up of 8 4 hour events, 1 6 hour event and 1 8 hour event. The GTPLN will be made up of 8 40 minute events, 1 60 minute event and 1 80 minute event.

Moreover to not drag out the races with the slower classes of cars each class will be racing a predetermined amount of laps that will lead to the race ending time occuring on the final lap.

To get this system setup properly I will be setting up a series of test events. I'm half way through a hot lap test with the forty possible entries we have available to us that have competed in the Vln. At the completion of my test no settings will be adjusted, however a rough outline of the classes will be posted.

At that point i would like to setup the testing sessions. There will be one session for each class with a hot lap portion and a tire/race test portion. During the tests we will compare times attempt to set a goal time and adjust the cars accordingly.

At the completion of the test sessions we will hold a final test which will be a full field race event using mock standings from the other tests to test out the delayed starting grid procedure.

If all goes well at that point we'll probably give everyone a week or two off and then start our season.

id also like to see the RUF RGT get involved in this along with the 2 civic race cars, VW cup cars, Mini coopers, Mini Marcos GT, Alfa's ext.

im going to go out on a limb here and say ban All Super GT/JGTC cars.
