GTPlanet League: Codemasters Classic Championship - Round 04

Has the power stage got a different points structure?
Just checked and the league is using the WRC scoring method:

So that means:

So I finished 5th overall for 10 points, and finished 3rd on the power stage, for an extra 3. You finished 4th overall for 12 points, and 5th on the power stage for an extra 1, so we both scored 13 points.

Colin McRae Rally's success in 1998 meant a sequel was inevitable, and in 2000, it was released. This time however, it lacked the WRC license, meaning driver names were fictional (except for the cover star). However, the works cars were all featured, and some had extra variations, the cover car for example, could be driven in both its 2000 and 1999 guise, along with 2 other liveries. The list of cars expanded to 20 (21 on PC), with a total of 29 variations. A marked step up on the first game. Location wise, we gained Kenya, Italy and Finland, whilst the game lost Indonesia, Monaco and New Zealand. keeping the total rallies at 8, but with a 9th featuring in the games new challenge mode (Japan).

The game took everything people loved about the first edition and ramped it up, it was more of a challenge, with more to unlock and earn through play. Once again, it was extremely well received, earning 8s and 9s out of 10 for the most part.

This weeks car is of course, the Ford Focus WRC, the cover star is the 2000 model which we don't have in EAWRC, however, you could unlock the 1999 model in the game. Finland was chosen as the location as it was the signature rally added to the game. As one of the most famous rallies in the world, it's absence was notable in the first game and was much welcomed in 2.0. It was also the first rally you would be presented with in the games championship mode, with the signature grey gravel and continuous yumps through the forest.

Finland didn't quite go as planned, I think I must have spun on every stage with a few excursions into the flower beds for good measure lol

Currently in 2nd overall but don't expect to stay there obviously lol.

Great run, we were super close there, less than 4 seconds between us at the finish 👏.
Yeah I had a poor run through 3 and 4, especially on 4 but I lost less by extricating myself from the crash than taking a penalty I think. And thankfully the worst of the damage was bodywork with some light damage on the suspension and radiator.
The gravel felt very loose as well

Yeah I did a similar thing in stage 5, wedged between a couple of trees but could get out backwards and nursed the puncture the last 1.5km.

Round 3 is Japan and the mandated car is the Ford Focus WRC 2001.

I am currently away and at a hotel with patchy WiFi so I will try and get the results up tonight but I cannot promise anything.

Had a nice run in Japan. I made one major mistake on stage 2 when I had a brain fade about 46 seconds into the stage and missed a 6 left call and was heading for the end of a railing, so had to turn into the trees and hope for the best! It gave me a 7 second reset penalty plus whatever time I'd lost in the foliage and getting back up to speed so I got away quite lightly really. The rest of the rally was pretty good for me and so far I'm at the top of the board overall ( until @Dreadmed spoils it all again )

No guarantee of that! I'm not playing as much nowadays and I'm not all that good at Japan either, especially in the wet.

Colin McRae Rally 3 released on the PS2, Xbox and PC in 2002, the first 'next gen' title after 2 iterations on the previous generation of consoles. The game was a huge step up visually, with brilliant new particle effects, stunning wet weather effects and fantastic stage design, using the power of the new consoles to the max. Content wise, we lost Kenya, Italy and France, while gaining Spain, USA and Japan. The game still felt like a Colin McRae Rally title, the driving model was a nice evolution from 2.0, audio had a solid revamp but the graphics are what really made it stand out from previous titles.

The game featured a unique career mode, as you take the seat of Colin McRae on a 3 year campaign from 2002 to 2004, with the aim of becoming world champion. Each season added more stages and rallies to increase the length and difficulty. You could however only use the Ford Focus RS WRC 2002. This divided some people but for most it was an enjoyable campaign. the game really added to the feeling of being in a rally with nice cut scenes ahead of stages and a modern UI.

There were plenty of interesting bonus cars to unlock as well, from road variations of the rally cars, to the 2001 Focus, Citroen 2CV and even the Ford Transit Rallye Van.

Rally Japan was chosen to compliment the cover car, as this was probably the most memorable rally in the game. A dark tarmac rally with almost constant wet weather conditions, twisty mountain roads and lots of trees. It pushed the capabilities of the new game to the max, and the incredible for the time wet weather effects.

Japan finished, I'm quite happy with 3rd place
I'm happy with last place since I limped in three minutes before the deadline after slam dancing with some trees and posts. For some reason I thought these rounds changed over on Tuesdays.

Well, one of those events where you wish you'd not bothered sitting down.

Halfway through stage 1, went into a 2 tightening to 1 right and promptly threw it off the cliff. Bugger.

Even though it took me to the next service halt I had terminal gearbox damaged so that was that. Annoyed with myself cos I quite like Greece.

Ho hum, I'll wait for the next one
