In creating the Times DB, my programmers need to have a list of every car in every version of Gran Turismo (1, 2, 3, 4, and GT Concept). The list must be organized in alphabetical order, and each entry must follow this format:

MAKE Model 'year,
MAKE Model 'year,
MAKE Model 'year,

Some examples:
MITSUBISHI Lancer Evolution III GSR '95
RUF BTR Type 2
TOYOTA Celica GT-FOUR RC (ST185) '91

I would prefer for the consulted car lists to be those found here on GTPlanet (with the exception of the GT1 list, of course - just as long as all entries follow a consistent format). The list needs to be formatted in a comma delimited file (*.csv file), so that the name of each car is separated by a single comma (with no spaces before or after the comma). This is a fairly common file format, exportable by many popular programs such as Microsoft Excel.

I understand this is a rather involved process, and whoever I choose for the job will enjoy 2 free months of GTPremium service. If you are already a GTPremium user, you will receive the free months when your current account expires.

So, if you are up to the job and want to contribute to a major new section of GTPlanet and receive free GTPremium service, send me a PM with CAR LIST as the title. If you have any experience working with CSV files, please let me know in the PM as that would be a huge plus!!! I'll choose someone within the next day or so, and I'll send you an email to let you know if you're the one.

Thanks for your interest, and if you have any questions about the car list please post them here (NOT in a PM) and I will answer them as soon as I can.

I claim you could get at least a start for the GT1list from

http://www.geocities.com/gt2toxs/gt/gt1stats/

I'll see if I can make an appropriate query URL.

Here is a list. The year is not comma-separated and not always at the end.

You should be able to snarf'n'barf the list from the text area.

I might do the same thing at home and post-process it.

This does not include hidden cars. (I don't think  )

geocities is ****ing around with frames again, making it difficult for me to get the query

I managed it, but it's possible their frames will make your use of my URL go wrong. :(

They tried frames a while back (for their advertising), and I thought they'd given up, but now they're trying again.

nvm - use sportwagon's list - its better than what I generated.

Here are the results I get. And yes, there are no hidden cars.
The Corvette'67 is the only one people will likely use anyway.

[... previously included output deleted due to not being close enough to what was required ...]

That is my web site and page, btw.

I need to go now. I claim moving the year (when present) to the end of the name (as a separate CSV?) should be relatively easy in something perl-like.

You may or may not want * for prize-names, etc. (Problem: the * names sort before all others).

This includes sale type too, which may be helpful.

[... previously included output deleted due to not being close enough to what was required ...]

With added newlines, this is the portion of the list for GT1, if someone else composing an entire list wants to just merge this in. This is all simulation mode base cars (although, sigh, you can make [R] versions of nearly all of them; or will that just be indicated as tuning options?).

It seems to me you must distinguish which games cars are for, (i.e. distinguish a GT1 NISSAN R32 Skyline GT-R Nismo from the one in GT2 (and also thereby provide validity checks to detect cars not in particular games)) and in some cases need to distinguish different instances of similarly named cars in the same game. In particular, in GT1 the prize Supra RZ does not tune to quite as many bhp as the store-bought version. For that reason I have indicated (prize), although that can be trivially removed if desired.

It's also not clear how "ASTON MARTIN DB7 Coupe" will be correctly handled, but eventually I guess you'll end up with a set of recognizable prefixes for manufacturers. It's also not clear how to handle "HONDA/ACURA".

Actually, this is not a problem. This list will simply be translated directly into a drop-down selectable form menu, so it is not important for the list to be able to be "translated" in any way by software. :)

I gave it a try on the GT2 list. My wrists are sooo cramped from typing.

The list is really long so I'm putting it as a document download. If I did anything wrong, just tell me. I'll fix it. :)

Wow! Thanks Neon - awesome job! I really like that format better - without the "make" names capitalized. I'm going to remove that requirement from my initial post. Neon, if you could just add a single comma to the end of each car name, it would be perfect.

We still need someone to compile all these lists into one, remove duplicates, and sort them in alphabetical order - whoever does this first is the person who I will award the GTPremium membership. :)

SportWagon's GT1 Car List uncapitalized and Neon_SRT's GT2 Car List with commas.

Thanks, TB! The GT2 list is perfect, but I think you might have attached the wrong file for the GT1 list?

Also, if we could just get the GT3, GT Concept, and GT4 lists together in a similar format - that's all we need. There is no need for all of the lists to be compiled into one as the software will do that automatically! :)

Someone might want to double check these, but they should be close.

Holy crap, that GT4 list is a long bugger.

It looks like everything is finished, pending a double check.

Yes, the full list is now complete. Many thanks for everyone's help!!! :)

No, because nobody that contributed didn't do everything that needed to be done. I might give everyone that contributed like a week of Premium access or something, but I haven't decided.

Ah crap, well it's too late now. I don't think too many people will want to contribute top times for that game anyway now that GT4 is here.

If you decide to give everyone that helped a week, don't worry about me. I didn't do it for the Premium access, just to help out the site. Hope that didn't sound too cocky. The GT4 list took all of an hour to set up in the format you wanted. It really wasn't that big a project, but it's your call.

Yeah now that I think about it thats true. Anyways I cant wait to start posting up times and join the WRS when GT4 comes out! :D
