(Where's that jaw-drop smiley that I've seen before? It isn't on the "More Smilies" page, as far as I can tell.)

Everyone always said that you were very busy, but I had no idea that it had so much to do with the site! Spending hours per day is a phenomenal effort. 👍

I know that you're planning to make aesthetic improvements, but honestly, I can't imagine how the forums could look much better than they currently do. They may look slightly outdated, but they're fantastically easy to read. I'm consistently horrified whenever I visit another forum because the layout and color scheme are always bad. I'm sure that you'll manage to improve it even further, though. :)

what this person is saying is exactly right

Thanks for the heads-up on that. I had only tested the mobile theme with Mobile Safari on my iPhone (where a link to the Forums is available), but that wasn't showing up in Opera Mini. Thanks to Apple approving Opera Mini in the App Store yesterday, I was able to fix this so you will be able to go straight to the forums now.

I've checked using Opera Mini on my fairly basic Sony Ericsson and the forum link is there now 👍

BTW how is Opera Mini on the iPhone compared to Safari?

Faster than average, definitely. It's snappy even on my 1mb/s connection.

And not quite what you were asking, but I've found the quality very reliable - I actually use GTP as a sort of benchmark comparison to see if individual sites are being slow, or whether it's my connection. I've found it equally if not more reliable than Google, in fact.

Thanks for the kind words. :O Yes, overhauling a site of this size alone is a very long process. As my web development skills grow, it seems to take even longer because I pay attention to ever smaller and more technical details. Anyways, don't worry too much about the aesthetics of the new look - it's very similar to what you see now, with a few organizational and usability tweaks. The real changes will be "under the hood" to improve speed and maximize scalability.

It's definitely not as smooth or as polished as Safari, but it's very fast and the additional features are miles ahead of Apple's browser. The only problem is that because of the user-agent string Opera Mini sends to websites, they won't show iPhone-optimized versions of their websites. Gmail, for example, has an amazing iPhone interface, but you're stuck with Gmail's standard mobile site if you're using Opera. That will probably keep me from using it on a daily basis, but it should be especially useful if I'm in an area with slow connectivity.

Good to hear! 👍

GTP is plenty fast for me Jordan. I really like the cleanliness of the layout, and your progressive move towards standards compliant code and CSS with fewer & fewer images has delivered results. Along, obviously, with your constant investment in hardware!

I voted that it was as fast as other sites I visit, but that's mainly because I don't visit slow sites!

I have never have any problems with any sites I axcess speed wise.
However I find gtplanet very fast even when I axcess massive picture threads it is good. Probably better that other similar pages (number of pics wise) on failblog and masalatime.

Speed has never been an issue with GTP. I regularly visit the site on gsm dial-up, painfully slow connection of less than half normal dial-up speed. It still loads reasonably quick. Far faster than any comparable site.

Second Jordan regarding Opera on iPhone, excellent speed when on rubbish connections, but on faster connections the extra speed doesn't make up for the choppy page processing.

GTPlanet for the most part is faster than the other sites I visit and I have noticed an improvement in the speed here over the last 6 years. Its great that its so clean and optimised but I wouldnt might a slight drop in speed to maybe allow for a slighty larger avatar or avatar upload limit.

Robin.

Normally good, but currently:

With this response at home:

Main Desktop PC:

Netbook on wireless connection:

But in both cases timeout in Firefox and Ping at home on "www.gtplanet.net"

All other sites seem to load correctly. (sometimes a bit slow but ok)

Any suggestions what tests I could run to find where the issue is, wanted to run some Trace tonight (thought about it yesterday, but could not find a prompt in Windows 7).

Very quick for me. I dunno about everyone else but that is without displaying avatars because I don't think they add much to reading a forum.

Being honest, I can really only say that it is broadly the same as most sites I visit, in as much as it has its moments just like any other, which may or may not be due to the site itself, but generel internet traffic. I will say one thing though, it does seem to be more stable than most, and works well on my main PC running Windows XP with Opera, and my IE powered NetTop running Windows 7 and IE.

Yes, running traceroute would be the best way to diagnose your problem. Run tracert www.gtplanet.net from a command prompt and past the results here. Also, please try running tracert www.gtpla.net as well.

As requested: GTPlanet does still not work, seems to be in the last steps:
...

GTPla does work:
...

Copy paste of a GTPla.net address from Google does give a result.
"To see this file go to GTPlanet.net"

Sorry for the French, but it is easy to guess what it states.
"Request timed out."

Not even funny to do several google translates. :p

Strange. :indiff: Just to double-check, can you confirm the IP address you are attempting to access the site from during the timeouts? You can get it here, and can send it to me via PM if you prefer.

I'll try to send it through GTPlanet.org Facebook if that works, otherwise if it is the same as the last days, I'll have to do it from work tomorrow.

You can also contact me directly via . :)

e-mail can be removed if you want to

Edit: thanks for the help, went to other computer to connect, seems to avoid being blocked. Might try again tomorrow with the blocking machine. Indeed no issue with of blocking again with other browser, thanks for unblocking.

God, comparing this website to Bungie.net, its Uberfast. Bungie.net won't even load some pages.
