@ ALL!

Is there anyone else racing here that is PAL (Europe,Australia etc) that could do me a small favour?

It seems that there may be a potential problem with the MacLaren F1!
Or it could just be in the way I drive it!

Basically, the problem is that, in the PAL version of the game the Mac eats rear tyres for breakfast and asks for seconds, but, in the NTSC version it doesn't.

For example!

Drew my team-mate can get 7 laps out of RM/RM round Seattle, and he says that they wear pretty evenly.
If I try the same, my rears are toast after 5 laps and the fronts are only yellow!
I have to run hard rears, and they are deep orange after only 6 1/2.
We have double-checked settings and are certain that we are running identically.

Could someone Pal, please set the car up on RM/RM, TCS on, 310 gears, strong tyre-wear etc, and run som laps round the track?

Then could you let me/us know the results as far as tyre-wear are concerned.

I would really appreciate the help, as it would set my mind at ease either way it goes.

I have no plans to change cars, at all! I will soldier on with it in either case.

Thanks in advance!

Neil

I'll give it a try right now if you like :) Mind if I ask what kind of lap times you are doing just to give me something to go by.

EDIT: Well Balls, I gave it a try with all your settings, managed to get 6 decent (by my standards) laps in, but couldnt keep the thing pointing away from the wall on the seventh, here are my 6 lap times

L1/*'**.***
L2/*'**.***
L3/*'**.***
L4/*'**.***
L5/*'**.***
L6/*'**.***
L7/DNF :D

That *'** on lap 5 may have cost me a *'** on lap 6 because it was in the last 2 corners I lost the time when I got a lil slide on. Balls, you are far better at keeping the tyres from wearing than I am, im sure you could get the 7 laps out of this car somehow.

That time on lap 5 may have cost me a second on lap 6 because it was in the last 2 corners I lost the time when I got a lil slide on. Balls, you are far better at keeping the tyres from wearing than I am, im sure you could get the 7 laps out of this car somehow.

Thanx East!

Those times are comparable with what I get when running RM/RM's, and you are getting the same results too!

5 good laps, another that is marginal, and then spin-city!
Drew is getting 7 decent laps with pretty even tyre-wear with the same settings.

I don't think that there is gonna be any way of counteracting this problem, as the tyres heat up even on the straights on this car.
I'll keep trying but I think that there is definately a PAL/NTSC difference in the car model that is causing this!

Neil

:yuck: well mate..... here's what I remember from WRS .... in some cars, there is a difference in the PAL vs. NTSC.... I can't remember if the car you're drivning is one of them, just that there were a couple of occassions that there was a difference. Not sure if there was a power adjustment made to compensate ? ... Then again, there is no tire wear in WRS.

Hate to see that you're not running your usual "Tyre King" race :ouch: Though I'm sure the rest of your "class" is a little bit encouraged :sly: considering the postings of you two last week

If it's of any help, I'm having a simular problem with the rears on the Ford in the other class. Has me wondering :grumpy: ... as I'm still working on the opening lap vs. tyre choice vs. pit strategy .... now that I have to try Bob.

Yeah that's mainly what they were bothered about in the WRS, the power, or more accurately the car's ability to put the power down on the track.
This is more about the tyre-wear, and as you say there is usually no tyre-wear in the WRS. But maybe it's a by-product of the same thing?

In the WRS it was the Oreca Viper that was the car that sparked the controversy, in that in the NTSC version you could put the power down better with less wheel-spin when exiting a slow corner.
Maybe, with all the slow corners on this track and El'Cap last week, that is what is causing it?

I'll manage buddy, Just like last week!:sly:
I know it may sound like I'm whinging, and complaining, and I suppose I may be a little.
But all I am really trying to do is find the reason for it, whether it be my driving not suiting the car, or something in the game. Hense why I have asked other's for comparative tests

;) It's not, really any help bud But you at least know there will be someone out here that sympathises with you!

Keep plugging away at it, I am!

Neil

come on guys, no lap times, T-times only.

It wasn't in the rules, but it is now. If you don't mind editing your posts please.

edit: Thank you guys.

Sorry Chris!:guilty:

East was only helping me out with some comparisons.
I am not running with RM rears anyway, so the times are useless as I can't make the RM rears last long enough.

I'm sure it won't happen again! :)

Neil

Done the edit's I can!

'Strictly prohibited' Hmm? You got your knickers twisted bud? ;) :D

Neil

Click, click.... a sound that freezes a room like the sound of a snapping rubber glove and the words "who's next ? "

LOL .... sorry cound'nt refuse there Shotgun :)

I saw that, and understood where Neil was going... if nothing else it made me feel a bit competitive :) .... as I'm still working on the things my mate is... making the rears work on this pogo-stick of a track  .... I'm still playing with the opening and gearing along with the rear/front situation... trying to get a feel for what works and what doesn't. Lap times/ set/ pits and where the hell do I put Bob into the mix ?

Do I sound lost ? :dunce: .... LOL

And Neil whine ?  Not at all ! ... LOL

I figure the Mazda will do very well, as it's not sprung as tight as my ex-wife:scared:

@ICallShotgun: Sorry, post edited, wont happen again :)

@Balls: If you havnt tried already, would it be a good idea to check your PAL Bobs tyre wear against Drews NTSC Bobs tyre wear, or are there differences between the Bobs on the 2 versions aswell?

Good idea there mate!

If there is an inherent difference between the two versions, it should show up there too!

Bob @2 (reduced pace) and see how many laps he does B4 pitting!

BTW reduced pace stops him head-butting the wall at the top of the steps, I think? Anything faster and he just plows into it like the other cars.

I'll give it a go now!

*edit* East buddy, you missed a couple of times in your post. :)
Neil

Ok, done some Bob runs and had a reply from another PAL user , mullen_power13 (thanks, Cam:tup: )

1st Bob's results.
Running @ reduced pace he got 7 laps x 2 stints out of medium rears till he pitted, but he was running 8 seconds slower than my normal pace. The fronts were still light green!
Running @ medium pace he got 6 laps x 2 stints out of the medium rears (running 6 seconds slower than me) and again the fronts were still light green.

Now Cams results:
mullen_power13
1st run

End of lap 1 - Fronts pale green / rears light green
End of lap 2 - Fronts light green / rears light green
End of lap 3 - Fronts light green / rears starting to turn yellow

Midway through lap 4 - Rears now yellow

End of lap 4 - Fronts turning yellow / yellow (perfect)

Midway through lap 5 - Rears now orange

End of lap 5 - Fronts turning yellow / rears dark orange

Midway through lap 6 - rears now red (car becomes impossibleto drive) / fronts yellow

Normally i would have pitted at the end of lap 5, but i wanted to see when the tires became Red.

On my second run it was exactly the same except i pitted at the end of lap 5. So laps 1 through to 5 are the same as above and laps 6 through to 10 are the same as 1 to 5.

Pretty much the same results as both East and I get.
Now I just need Andy to run Bob round for a few to confirm, and my mind will be at rest.

At least now I know it's not my driving that's causing the excessive tyre-wear, maybe the king hasn't lost his touch after all! ;)

Neil

Hmph!

Sarcasm will get you no-where, young man!:D

Sorry this is off subject, but Google vrx racer pro. This is an incredible virtual racing cockpit that has surround sound, changes your view when you turn your head and moves up, down, left, right.Has keyboard , mouse, etc. Watch the videos. Cost $2500.00. Guess what I'm asking Santa (me) for?

Well, initial tire testing for the GT has completed. Pretty confident in how I'm going to run. Will attempt a banker race tomorrow following the Champ Car race and then do a quali but I'm not sure whether or not that'll be doable Sunday.

VRX Racer Pro? It doesn't hold a candle to the Virtual GT. This thing costs between $17 and $20+ grand American depending on the options you get. The base system is a pure simulator, add ons include game system, PC, Flat screen T.V. coming in sizes 37"-50", software, including some original games based off of Simbin technology, cars included are Grand Am, ALMS, Champ Car, British Porsche Cup, and the list goes on. The representative for the company I talked to said this piece of equipment was originally just a pipe dream and it's now intended for fairly serious racers to practice on. His goal was to see one in each G.A. team's shop. Of course, he works for the company he may as well have said it he wants it in the possession of, all human beings!

Now, I've been a good boy this year and I think Santa need take note of my keen interest in Motor sports... well, it's okay to dream, isn't it?

Yeah, I've seen several in that price range which is a tad much for us little guys, but $2500.00 is within reach. They have a base model without wheel and pedals.

Sent my times in. :) Here's hoping I do well.

I love Seattle Circuit. I can get around there so good. I'm especially good in GT cars around this course but I'll be polishing my prototype skills for that course. I'm ready to race. I wonder if my teammate is though:sick:
Yeah I'm still here :) this is like the neverending football season though. It was sposeded to end last week but coach just had to shedule two more games... whatever, I'll get my times in somehow. Probably today I'll get 'em done after the game. Godd luck to everyone!

Times sent. Had a very busy week and barely got my second race done. Only problem is I forgot to do my Quali's....forgot what series I was doing I guess, another example of CRS!!! Sorry Neil, it was a bad week for me.

Same here buddy!

Just gonna submit my fastest laps from within the race, and hope for the worst!

Been a busy week, too much going on, not enough time to play!

So don'y worry, it's a long season!

Neil

time sent... sorry there "P" - but this was an abismal race for me :grumpy:

My first attempt at running "bob" - I run slow enough, never mind having him undo all that I worked to get ! Maybe as the season gets towards the end I'll begin to understand how to get him to move faster.

Worked a 3 stop race... all RS's and RM's... may not have been the best way to go, but it was the one that I chose. Tough track to stretch the tyre wear. Andy, 👍 on getting 7 laps out of the RS's... no way in hell I could do that with my ride :grumpy:

Had a decent qual run, but it won't be in the points. I'm sure some of the hotter shoes out there will just dust mine.

My race pace was dictated by the # of pits that I wanted, and that was just pushing it to the edge.

Fast lap, wasn't :ouch:

All in all, I like the premise of the series 👍
just not thrilled with my abilities at this point.

J.R.

I managed:

8 laps on hard rears in the Mac & did a 4 stopper with 4 laps from BOB.

and 8-9 laps on mediums in the RX-7!

However I did not have the time to do the quali laps on RSS in either car!

Sorry Drew, I may incur a DQ for the qualifying............?

This was a hard race!

Neil

I didn't run a quali at all either. Just one of those bad weeks (stupid real life) and 2 tough races. The RX7 is great until you hit a curb and become airborn and out of control, the Mac takes the curbs OK but I just don't have the feel for it yet, it's definately an aquired experience. No worries we'll get used to both of them by the end of the series:)

I thought we could only go on RMs...hards would have definitly helped with the rear end on the McLaren....oh well, there always next race!

Jonvan Automotive Group Team News:

Unfortunately for the Jonvan team and boosters alike, JAG had to pull both of their Prototype 2 entries from this weeks GTP LMS inaugural event at Seattle. Team owner Chris Jones, who considers the Seattle event to be his home race, expressed his disappointment in a memo to team members Wednesday morning as the team was about to prepare to head out.

"Technical gremlins got in our way," Jones admitted, "the team just took delivery of the brand-new Pescarolo-Courages and details in suspension geometry still need to be worked out." An unfortunate start to what looks to be a good season but apparently not of much concern to Jones. "We aren't going big picture racing, we're not at all considered with the title. Everyone is starting from scratch and I think like most teams, whenever we are at the track we're going to do are best and try to be our fastest."

The two purple and green Deutsche Bank X-Markets cars are expected to make it the rest of the season but status of new driver signing m.piedgros is not yet known. "Well, m.piedgros is off gallivanting around Europe," Jones joked, "We've talked to m.piedgros and have concluded he will make all events he can. I couldn't give you a tentative schedule for him, we'll just take it as a bonus when he is in one of our cars."

Thought that would be a cool way of saying P2 will be down two entries this week. Sorry guys!

Racerworkz BMW one bullet short

Racerworks BMW, one of the teams that had a put on a good show in the preseason event, will start one car short. The #84 Red Bull BMW M3 GTR will not be in the inaugural race due to a crash at the later stages of the morning warmup. according to both eyewitness reports and video from the camera on the bridge, the car came down from the hill heading into turn 9, then suddenly turn sideways and collided with the corner and finally stopped at the entrance to turn 10. "I was going down towards 9 under braking and suddenly as I turned the car, I felt the rear quickly snap right and I hit the corner and there was nothing I could do from that point on" said Timo Mullen, one of the drivers of the car. Timo did manage to walk away unscaved. "I'm just a little upset about it after we had a good test with it" said Camyron Jackson, one of the team's co-owners also racing this week in the P1 class. " but we're still in the picture so I'm not that worried. we have a great driver lineup and a solid crew for each car so I'm still looking forward to the race and the entire season."
