Welcome to the GTPLMS

Round 5: 24 Laps of Le Mans

Round 5
Track: Circuit de la Sarthe I - 8.48miles (13.65km)
Length: 24 Laps - 203.5 miles (327km)
Deadline: Sunday, July 8th @ 6p CST (GMT -6)

LeSartheITrackMap.jpg

This is it. The big one. The premiere event of the GTPLMS season. The race to test the endurance of drivers and cars for 24 laps at one of the longest, fastest, and most prestigious tracks in the world. From Dunlop Curve, through Tertre Rouge onto Mulsanne, through Indianapolis and into Porsche Curves, this track has everything. Extreme speed, hairpins, and possibly the roughest track we race on will keep drivers on a razor edge for the longest event in the GTPLMS season.
Race Series Announcement
There will be no HP penalties for the 24 Laps of Le Mans. Penalty system will be re-enstated after this round. Also, GTMSA reserves the right to request a lap-chart from ANY competitor at any time. Make sure to keep saved replays or in the future, if a lap-chart cannot be provided, times may not be allowed.

Sorry it took so long for somebody make a post in this race thread, but I had to wait until Shotgun put up the results space to say it. :D

Qualifying for me sorta didn't go the way I was hopng it would in GT1 and GT2, but I think a P4 in GT3 is allright. :) So lets get the racing started. Best of luck to all of you in the GTPLMS Season 2 24 Recouvrements du Mans.

Madame et les messieurs, mettent en marche vos moteurs! :sly:

Now for a little race update from me. I took out the Otakon Subaru for it's first shot at the race earlier tonight. Didn't have too many problems except for a skid in the Esses that resulted in a 'nose job' on the inside wall approaching Tetre Rouge on Lap 5 or so. Another problem I had - and I dunno if any of the other GT3 drivers have the same thing happen to them - was that I was lapped by the leader at about the 2/3rds mark eventually resulting in me having to finish a lap behind the winning car at the end of the race. Any chance the AI should be adjusted so the the GT3 drivers would be able to race all 24 of the scheduled laps? If now, should we make a note in our Time Submissions as to how many laps we had completed?

Also, the replay stopped at about the 16th lap or 1:12 mark. I had to make a note of what my fastest lap time was before I completed my final lap in case the last lap was faster.

Oh...
The replay doesnt cover the whole race?
My fastest lap was the last one...
Well Sammi, I hope you took note of that lap time and wrote it down. Otherwise, who knows if that would be the one that gets you Fastest Lap in that class?
I figured out how can I get closer in the race to Sammi...
 Really? Tell me.

If you can finish your race and get the full replay, you're faster than Sammi :p

Unluckily that is my GT2 Race.
In GT3 my fastest lap is a 4'07 on hards.:)
I just looked at my replay and it doesnt end early...

Managed 3 stopper in PRO on RM/RM. Made a mistake at pit stop #2 when I hit the gas pedal too soon and stopped the refueling. Resulted in the Pesca being down to only 2 units half-way through lap 17. Thought I might have to splash 'n dash at end of 17 but decided to go for it. Down to 1 unit at Dunlop on lap 18 (my scheduled pit lap) but made it to my pit as scheduled. Crew chief was not happy with my driving, but still, give me a break - 3 stopper on RM/RM. I was happy. Now to push the beast for a better time. 👍

Btw, has anyone done la Sarthe in reverse? Do it in Time Trial (no AI's to hit you head on). In reverse, la Sarthe gives you a great perspective on the elevation changes which are not so evident going normal direction. And, best of all, it made me a bit woozy going reverse. Try it!

What!

A 3 stopper on RM/RM in pro! How the hell are you stopping the rears from burning up?

Tortoise and the hare, comes to mind! :scared:

I haven't done PRO yet, trying to do the GT1, and only getting 5 laps out of the fronts in the Viper.

And the AI (especially the Merc) are a nightmare at +9. In the first 3 laps, I think he hit me up the arse-end about 4-5 times per lap.

Lost an awfull lot of good starts through being spun out going into Indianapolis that way.

The Pescarolo is definitely the tortoise. But at RM/RM (tire wear set to Strong) the Pesca is able to go 6 laps between pitting. Rears orange/ fronts yellow. So, as far as lap times go, I can push a bit harder because it looks like the tires will be able to take a bit more punishment.

Have not jumped into the Ford GT LM yet, but should be interesting to see how that holds up.

Phil

Team ICS has finished it's tire tests and results are a little surprising. 1 race completed in all categories, with penalties and spins abound.

GT3 ended w/ 2 penalties because of running off the road and hitting the walls. oops. fronts go away REALLY quick on matched tyres, so it looks like a mismatch week. Going to have to fill compeletly twice for gas. No hints on strategy yet, but i'm on track a LONG time before pitting.

GT2, and the M3 aren't putting down blistering lap-times, but she's consistent. Tire wear is good on matched tires, and I can baby the fronts for a long time...possible 2-stopper (spoiler alert).

GT1 and the Viper is tough. you REALLY can feel the extra weight on a car that already was a pig. But she's quick, and once you get used to it, surprisingly nimble. Looking for a decent result here.

PRO and the R8 is really a fight. Too bad the Stewards won't allow RSH tires, or you'd all be toasted w/ a 1-stopper. As it is, I'm looking at a stop for gas instead of tires...which is a nice change-of-pace. Looking for good results here too, with a significant barrier in reach. 1st time through had 4 penalties off of 5 spins (yeah, lost some concentration into Indy and Porsche Curves).

Overall Le Mans is treating ICS Racing pretty well...and there's roughly 3-5m available in all classes. See you all at the track, and maybe an update next week after my brothers wedding (aka I might not be around).

Well, I'm not a PRO driver this season, but I think I did all right with the drive I just did. More on that later in this post.:D
That's my secret...:)
I just told "closer".This time nobody can catch Sammi,I think...:indiff:
Time sent. The first 4 laps was really hard,I loved it.
Well, there's plenty of time left before the submission deadline. So we shall see.;)

Same here. For the sake of asking, have you finished any of your races a least a lap behind the AI cars on your end?

Just finished up a GT3 race w/no penalties or spins here. And I don't feel like showing my hand(i.e. telling my strategy) until after the deadline has passed.:sly:

The furthest I have gotten all week long (in the time limited by prep's for the forthcoming event) is about half a race in the Viper.
Was in the lead by 45-odd seconds, lost concentration in Maison Blanche and hit the right-hand wall just after the marshal post.
As per my usual M.O., I binned the race!

Call me crazy if you want, but I will never submit a race with a penalty or a spin in it.
Gonna try to keep my mind off the stag-night tonight, by giving it another serious effort in an hour or so, after the Dutch TT (MotoGP) is finished.

Plus, all day tomorrow (after the hangover) will be a possibility.

Neil

Oh, i'm not submitting anything with a penalty (if i can help it).

And CAM, i haven't been lapped in any race yet. GT1 came close because of the CLK-GTR, but that's a P2/1 car, so I don't have a big problem w/ it. Otherwise it's roughly 3rd-4th place except for PRO, where I lapped all comers but 1.

Dels run his 'keeper' race in GT3 .. and is now worried he'll run out of time to run 2 sets in three classes ... :nervous:

Del, not sure if you were aware of the extended deadline for this race. It's not tomorrow - it's a week from tomorrow on July 8th. Just thought you should know. 👍

For me in GT2, I have no problems except for the McLaren F1 GTR who laps me at about the 15th or 16th lap of the race. Otherwise, I'm pretty much ahead of the pack. Now if only the game on Level +9 can give me a field w/out the Mac...:ouch:

The good thing about this round is that it's 2 weeks instead of the usual 1. That's plenty of time to get your best race strategy planned out so you can go Maximum Attack on the Sarthe Circuit for the time length of a usual F1 race. Speaking of which, I've done that 3 times today so far in GT2 and have it just about down pat.:sly: I'll probably do the same thing tomorrow for GT1 and see what I can do w/the Camaro(in between having to put in and take out the laundry from the washer and dryer as well as the F1 race.:dopey:).

Thanks guys .. Dels well aware of the deadline .. he has a very busy schedule and will just have to squeeze it in {won't be happy unless he gets 48 laps for each class = roughly 9 hours on track} .. 💡 wish we could get paid for racing ... it would make things easier .

After only 5 laps of an aborted run in GT2 ; seems the RX7 wears the rears slightly faster than the fronts here .. :grumpy: [other way-round on the previous tracks]

''Just finished up a GT3 race w/no penalties or spins here. And I don't feel like showing my hand(i.e. telling my strategy) until after the deadline has passed'' >>>> Del thinks he knows your strategy Cam .. and it certainly makes a worthy difference :)

Well!

Managed to get through my stag-night with most of my dignity intact, and didn't suffer too badly this morning. (Pole/Lap dancing clubs are not a safe place for a prospective groom!! )

So got back in the seat, and continued the Viper race I started yesterday.
Managed to finish in first place by over 45 seconds on the Merc CLK, and lapped all but the Panoz Esperante.
3 stops, almost perfect fuel management, good tyre strategy. (that's all I'm giving away this week) and a nice consistent race overall.

Gonna give the GT-One a go in a while.

Neil

I think I got 96 laps in yesterday, and that was in GT2 alone!:D Good way to get the driving style smoothed out and find out the best way to attack this race. Especially if someone just recently brought a Driving Force Pro wheel.;)

From my POV, I believe I get pretty much even tire wear here. Maybe the RX-7 LM is a MR racer in disguise?

Uh oh...:nervous: Based on what you just wrote Neil, you probably have a good lead on the field in GT1. Well, there's still a week to go for this race, and I'll give it nothing but my best!:sly:👍

I've just realized that I have an extra week for racing @La Sarthe...:)
I am pretty happy with my result, but there is a possibility that I will try it once more to shave off some seconds.I don't know there is use to try it,because I won the race in GT3 with a large margin, over a minute or so ahead of the other Subaru.

For playing with our GT4? ROFL x 1,000,000

Actually, it's not such a crazy idea - getting paid to play. In an ever changing media/entertainment focused world it may become a reality in the future. We currently watch other people play card games and some of those "stars" have made millions in commercial endorsements.

Top GT players of the future may very well enter online global race series/contests which would be broadcast to the world, thereby earning commercial revenue which would be, in part, paid to the contestants that reach the podium.

Hey, if the WWF can continue making billions even decades after admitting the whole thing is a farce, then anything is possible. Too bad we may not be around to see it happen.

Del plans on living untill he's 150 .. if ever theres a professional online GT racing comp .. he'll be there 👍

Top Simracers (computer, not console) are already are there, but mostly in Asia. South Korea is a real hotbed.
