Actually, it's not such a crazy idea - getting paid to play.
Top Simracers (computer, not console) are already are there, but mostly in Asia. South Korea is a real hotbed.
I saw a report on TV sometime ago about some professional gamers going on Korean TV to compete against each other on a Warcraft-like PC game. I thought something like this would happen in Japan to be honest with you.:) Maybe they have something like it, but we don't know of it yet?

To my knowledge, "professional gaming" is pretty big in Asia. Corporate sponsors from Sony to Samsung help some of these guys earn upward of a quarter million dollars a year...

OK Guys!

I have done my GT1 and PROTO races (in the limited time I have had available)

The GT1 in the Viper, was a 3 stopper (as I said above), but the PROTO was a 5 stopper!
Absolutely no choice in that, at all. I was running RM fronts and could have got maybe 8 laps out of them, but RH rears were burned to hell and almost completely gone by Porche Curves on the 4th lap! They were already green by Florandier Chicane on each and every out lap.
Fastest lap in the race was a 'little' slower than my quali lap, but not by much at all.

Submitting my times to Chris now, and I'll just have to hope he doesn't laugh his arse off at them.:nervous:

Later dudes, got wedding stuff to do!

Neil

Best wishes with your 'wedding stuff' Neil .

Dels finished with GT3 and GT2 and the GT2 race is definately the hardest .. mixing it with the pack {A1} is tough when they get nasty {all the time} .. the GT3 pack are a much more freindly bunch of racers .

Its PROTO night to-night and the tyre life on the PS2 Pesco will hopefully get it on the podium { planning on a four { praying for a three} stopper , but we'll wait n see what happens} .. ?

Gotta admit, I enjoyed this combo! 👍

The racing was hard, especially in the Viper, and the AI were a pain (again, especially in the Viper), but overall I enjoyed it.

The most frustrating thing for me was the tyre life of the GT-One. I started the race innumerable times, and got to lap 4, only to find that I had pushed the rears too hard in the opening lap and had nothing left by the time I reached the Porche Curves.

The only way I could get them to last in that first stint, was to study the power-curve of the car in GT-Mode, and then watch how the TCS was flashing as I accelerated in 3rd and 4th gears. (Yes I know, work of the Devil. But the GT-One just needs it, the torque of the thing is immense)

Eventually I realised that if I lifted slightly at 6k-7.5k RPM's in 3rd, and slightly later in 4th, I could prolong the rear tyre-life just enough to get me through the Curves in one piece.

Once I worked that out today, I managed the time I have submitted in one sitting, while Anne was out playing Bingo to keep her mind off of things.

Ah well, no late night for me. Got an early start in the morning. Gotta take cake and Champagne to the place we are having the reception at, pay some bills, get some shopping etc, etc.

Night guys, and good luck!

Neil

All the best to you and your lovely bride Neil!! And remember, your first night may be very awkward and you may be nervous. So, just remember your racing buddies - we're all here for you to answer any of those questions or to put your mind at ease. :D

Good luck! 👍

Phil

edit: ran a 3-stopper in PROTO on RM/RM which looks to be a keeper. GT1 will be driven Sat. :nervous:

Update: So far I have clean and unlapped races in the GT1 and GT3 classes that I plan to attempt to improve their times on this weekend before I submit. However, GT2 has been pretty much an exercise in fustration as there is one car that I have constantly been seeing in my races over the last nearly two weeks, the BMW McLaren F1 GTR.:grumpy::ouch: Sure, it has the HP of the many GT1 cars, but it's 950 kg weight(give or take a few ballast bars) makes it nearly impossible for me to keep up with and maintain same-lap status in the race. I'll probably need to ask Shotgun(Chris) what I need to do to keep ahead and finish on the same lap, or ask him if I need to make a note by the race time that I finished 23 of the 24 laps of the race. I don't know if any of you other GT2 drivers have been having the same problems as I have been having.:indiff: One of the things that I tried to do was to race with a RM-RH setup for improving some grip on the fronts when turning. It turned out not to do me much good as I nearly spun out quite a few times on the Mulsanne chicanes as well as going into Indianapolis.:yuck:

@ Neil: Best wishes from me on your upcoming wedding as well. :) Any chance you'll be spending the first part of your honeymoon at Silverstone for the British GP?:sly:

GT3 Times Submitted :sly:👍

Well folks, it's come down to this. It's the last day to put in our best efforts in the BIG race in the GTPLMS and I'll be somewhat sad when this day is over. But here's to hoping the efforts we each made were completely worth it.;)

I made one last run in the Otakon Impreza earlier tonight. Things were going very well until the end of the 14th lap when I put a wheel on the grass at Maison Blanche causing it to spin out and smack into the wall across the track nose first.:ouch: So, that left me no choice but to send in my times for that class to Shotgun when I logged on. Speaking of which, those times came off a effort I made in the morning that I thought was pretty good. :) I'll say a little more about it after the results are posted. Hopefully before the deadline, I'll improve on one of the other classes race times as well.:D

times sent... :) don't know about this one, got 3 tries per class but only one without penalties or mistakes... :grumpy: :guilty:

Unfortunately, I just sent this PM to Chris:

Sorry to say that Le Mans just isn't gonna happen for me. 12-14 hour days for the last 10 in a row (sorry, "only" 10 hrs. today) just came at the wrong time. I was hoping to give it one shot today, but there's no way.

I feel bad for not running, but too much work and 95 degree heat pretty much blew me out. See y'all at the next round.

GT1 & GT2 Times Submitted :sly:👍

All that remains now is for the results to be posted.:nervous: I didn't get a chance to do any racing because of RL i.e. I had to help out my sister over at her house with some home improvement projects. :p

The only problem I had this round was in the GT2 class where I had to constantly deal with the McLaren F1 flying around the track and lapping me about 2/3rds of the way through the race.:irked: I don't know if any of you had this problem as well in your races.

time posted
internet down :(
needless to say - not a happy camper
hit the "clacker" twice
Joy ! :)
neil might get the reference

Points will have to wait until tomorrow all, sorry. Brother's wedding lastnight and family in town today leaves Chris a VERY tired boy. Results are up though. Congratulations to all podiums and all finishers in general. Not sure where all our guests went to though.

I will say that my GT3 time was mechanically marred. My wireless controller would cut out for about 5s at a time, sending the S2000 careening into the walls and a 10s penalty. i could not get it to stop so had to use the 1 complete race I had. Funny thing was I had no other problems in the other classes...dont' know if it was the car-track-controller combination or what. Oh well, on to the Forest.

I have a complaint to make about how unfair the race was in GT3.
GT2 was ok and I had a car lineup without the F1,
though it took a few tries before I got it,
but the RX7 is quite a bit more powerful soo I dont know.:)

Fantastic race! Congratulations to everyone! Happy with the results and the strategy.
A great race by Sammi and RACECAR - simply incredible!

👍 Del has no complaints .. enjoyed every lap here .. GT2 was a prize fight but was fun at the end of the day .. congradulations to all on the podium .

My apologies to all for my DNS. I had a rather massive personal crisis this weekend. I won't bore you with the details, but suffice it to say I forgot about the deadline last night :(

Shotgun, thanks again for the invite, and I hope this doesn't preclude me from future such events. You know me from JGTC and I'm usually the guy who never misses a round (even when traveling the world ;) ).

For what it's worth, here is my posting. I didn't have the best of runs, and didn't get a chance for another one on my alternate strategy. Looks like it would've been a 4th place finish for me:

Driver Name: ZeratulSG
Class: GT1
Car: Chevrolet Corvette C5R
HP: 609bhp
Wgt: 1,139kgs
Total Time: 1:30'39.842
Best Lap Time: 3'37.910

Congrat's to the winners and podiums, and also to everyone who found the time to compete in this, shall we say, grueling race! 👍

Pretty happy with second place in the Viper, and not surprised by where I came in the GT-One.
The rear tyre wear was abysmal, forcing what for me was a very disappointing pit strategy. (well not a strategy really, just the best this car could do :grumpy: )

I know I wanted a challenge this season, but Shheez!

Neil

congrats to the podiums 👍
only got one run in on the race and my 2 stopper wasn't the way to go it seems :( 6 min. out from the lead ? .... geez ! :ouch:
