I went back to Gt5p after a while of neglecting it, and realized how great of a game it is (after playing forza 3 with a controller). The G25 and Gt5p are a great combo.

Anyways I cannot for the life of me get Gold on the GTR on highspeed Ring event. The fastest i can do was 1:13.436 i believe and i need a 1:12.00 for the GOLD. The car just LOVES to under-steer and also braking at high speeds on a turn is a big no-no for me. Just wondering if there are any tips. ( hate to sound dumb but i didn't even check to see if i could TUNE the car). If i could i'm sure adding power and removing weight would help. Letting off the throttle helps relieve the PUSH/under-steer feeling a bit, but at my skill level i wasn't able to knock off that 1.436 second. :indiff:

118 views and not even a "learn to drive better" comment? We are all too polite. On a side note i got the GOLD so MODS feel free to DELETE this post.

I couldn't pass this by taking smooth lines for the life of me.

What I actually ended up doing was just violently whipping the car into the turn and smashing on the brakes. Hit the gas to exit and use the full length of the track. As stupid and counter-intutive as this sounds, it will shave a decent chunk of time off your laptime.

A couple laps of this plus some strategic drafting and you'll have this passed in no time.

i agree, i had to be really aggressive, mashing the brakes at the last second, whipping the wheel way past normal steering inputs (fighting under-steer) and flooring the throttle while trying to straighten the wheel as soon as possible (for quicker acceleration out of the turns). Took a few tries but it was no easy feat, now onto the Evo 9 time attack on Eidger is my next one to complete.

Those 2 events really test my confidence and made me question how good i was actually getting at the game. I was able to manage all other events pretty well, but these 2 are my real grounding experiences. :scared:

I try to drive properly and good lines, but at times my tires are screeching past the limits and makes me feel i'm driving too rough, but doing anything less nets worse lap times on certain occasions.

Nope, I normally drive Pro but I don't think this is passable if you do. Pro is around 3 seconds per lap slower and that amount of time is just not recoverable here.

No aids of any sort on, they slow you down too.

This was the first test that really gave me any sort of trouble, but this pales in comparison to the Ferrari F430 at Daytona test. This requires the same sort of aggressive tactics, but you'll have apply these tactics to the doors of all the other vehicles if you want to pass it.

Are you guys on Pro, no aids?

I'll try that. I have a silver by driving smooth.

yes professional, no aids. i'm not sure what happened, but it didn't save my GOLD! Was having a storm and power was in/out. i was trying again last night and the closest i got was 1:12.910 :ouch:. There are also no tunning options available. I found that quickly mashing the brakes helps rotate the car around turns when understeering, but you have to be carefull, at High speeds this causes the car to get massive oversteer (especially on the Banked turns) and throws it into a ridiculous 90* angle drift, i'm able to straighten out without spinning/hitting the wall but it kills that lap altogether. The best lap i got was following the zo6 corvette, since it's faster than the GTR i was using it's DRAFT to knock off some time. I will go at it again tonight, but 1 mistake and that lap is out of the question...I don't want to use standard physics, but i may try it just to see what that does. :indiff:

Thanks guys. Good to hear it's not just me. Yes A8, the F430 is difficult. After much effort I managed a silver in pro/no aids (and only hit one car once around bend!). But gold is another 2 secs beyond that!!! I think maybe they set the bar a bit high on that one, especially as it's a B class race.

I'm also trying for a silver in S6 the F40 challenge, which I want because it's the only bronze I've got left from A to S. Closest I've got there is 0.5 secs off #2.

If I can't get there in pro/NA I won't bother getting there at all.

well i went last night and tried the Standard physics (i'll get back to that in a second) but on the 2nd lap i was able to pull a 1.10.901 :guilty:. So i got the gold but i don't feel i have EARNED it. Just for the sake of it, i went back on Professional and best i managed was 1.12.908 :scared:.

As for Standard physics it reminded me a lot like NFS: Shift (traded in since it sucked in my opinion). But just like in NFSS when you feel like you are under-steering and not going to make it, The STANDARD physics in GT5p has this magical hand that grabs the tail end of the car and swings it around for you :dunce:. Under-steer is remedied by just turning the steering wheel a bit further!!!!(as long as you aren't plowing and way past the real driving line and speed) :indiff:

For my own personal goals/honor i am going to try and beat that damn thing on professional physics, but i can already see the future of cursing and slow deep breathing.... :)👍

Hey v6r....I'll just call you Rob ;-)

Man after my own heart. Well not literally. The races which I don't yet have gold are:

B8 GT-R time trial (silver)
A3 BMW M3 time trial (silver)
A8 F430 one-lap (silver)
S6 F40 one-lap (bronze)
S7 P750 race (silver)
S8 Ford GT time trial (silver)
S10 P750 race (silver)

Corvette dealer race (bronze)
TVR dealer race (bronze)
(racing dealer races with no tune at all)

of that lot some of them just need more time (I'm new to the game and in fact sim racing) and don't concern me. But the ones which are going to be difficult are:

B8 GT-R time trial
A8 F430 one-lap (that first corner needs a line I don't yet have)
S6 F40 one-lap (I can get to 4th by the hairpin and 3rd thru Spoon but I canna catch that R8)
S8 Ford GT time trial (don't remember much about this one)

Corvette dealer race (this car is insanely loose on the back end, I need another 1 sec a lap to win)

Of course all this is on hold now the demo is out...it's depressing beating your time and seeing your ranking stay the same ;-)
