After seeing quite abit of series done majorily on consoles and having been doing alot of racing on the PC lately, I thought I'd put together a Hot Lap Competition for GTR2. With all the mods that have been recently pouring for it and endless amounts of Tracks, I think this would most easily be a good competition. If interest in it is alive and well, I have the first challenge and even more, its a double feature based on the recent CES GT5 demo:

Challenge A: Super GT @ Indy

Mod: Super GT.

Track: Indianpolis Motorspeedway (Road Course)

Car: ARTA NSX '07 (or any '07 NSX)

Challenge B: Tour of Mount Fuji

Mod: Super GT.

Track: Fuji International Speedway (Final Version)

Car: Petronas Tom's SC430 '08 (or any '08 SC430)

Time Submitting Format
Since their are no sector times (at least none that I know of), everyone is allowed to post their times publicly with whatever method they choose. You can even post a picture or a video of it if you like(recommended that you embed it with the youtube tags for quick access)

Super GT @ Indy
Code:
1. [B]daan[/B] - 1'24.042

2. [B]Dijital Majik[/B] - 1'26.084

3. [B]RACECAR[/B] - 1'26.102

4. [B]Drillah[/B] - 1'26.688

Tour of Mt. Fuji

Code:
1. [B]daan[/B] - 1'32.055

2. [B]Dijital Majik[/B] - 1'32.727

3. [B]Drillah[/B] - 1'34.531

4. [B]RACECAR[/B] - 1'34.804

My poor laptop can just about push GTR2 at 30fps on my 40inch 1080p screen, but I'm definitely up for this as I just recently got the newer SuperGT mod.

One quick question, is Indianapolis the GT Legends version, I can't find one for GTR2, and assume it's transferable?

There is one for GTR2, not sure if anything in GT legends is transferable without some sort of modification. You can find it in a track pack here.

The Frame rate on my Laptop seems to vary depending on the track. Some tracks it'll be painfully slow while others will run at 30 and sometimes 60 Frames Per second. Then again, there is not alot of stuff on my Laptop.

Thanks! Getting the track pack now. I hadn't touched GTR2 in about a year until last night. Went out and got Sugo and Autopolis last night also to flesh out SGT. You don't happen to know of a Motegi addon do you? It's the only one I'm missing now.

Yeah frame rates vary with tracks, mods and even views.

Looking forward to competing in this, even if I will get my ass handed to me.

Unfortunately, thats only track I've been unable to find.

I'm up for this for sure!
I'll go pickup the tracks and the SGT mod tonight and get practicing.
Details on how to submit our replay or laptime is coming?

Silly me, how could I forget that?:dunce: I'll put those in the first post now that I actually got some interest going.

Edit: Its now up. Its also open to reasonable, helpful suggestions to make it better.

I managed to get in a few laps at Fuji today (can't stand Indy!), and got my time into the high 33s. I feel with not much work I could do mid/low 33s, and with a lot probably mid/high 32s. Now I don't know how that stacks up against you boys, but I doubt it's competitive as I suck. I was happy at least to see it's faster than the real quali times of round 3 of SuperGT this year though, and GT500 AI seems to be hitting low 35s (not sure how much fuel they're running though).

We need to remember there are so, so many variables in GTR2 that can affect times, and we would need to regulate simulation levels, damage, driving aids, fuel level, tires etc.

I play on the full/most realistic settings (DFP so only auto clutch on), full damage, no driving aids, soft tires and run 10L of fuel.

I think if we keep the whole spirit gentlemanly, we'll be just fine.

Oh, and engine blowouts at turn 1 Fuji FTL! ;)

Dude, that is miles better then me as I've only managed to get into the low 36s myself with the controller. Can't seem to find where I'm losing time.

There's something I defiantely need to do some experamenting with. Having not run a series on GTR2 before, I definately could use some suggestions on what would work best.

Well you are using a controller, don't know how you manage 100r! Also how much fuel are you running? I run 10L/5 laps worth for 1 outlap, 2-3 flying and 1 inlap. Maybe try turning on AI driver and see what he does? He's not great, but I picked up a few ideas here and there.

Have a play around and see what you think is best mate. Maybe different rules/settings for pad and wheel users to keep it fair?
Maybe have a route around the nogrip forums?:

I'm not really the one to be piping up on this, as I got GTR2 a year ago, and played for a few days (more so with the mods) and then only picked it up again day before yesterday when I heard of a newer SGT mod. Others would know far better than me.

I just checked my own realism settings:

Difficulty: Simulation
Auto clutch and auto reverse on, all else off.
TC and ABS off.
Damage sensitivity 100%
Flag rules and full course yellow on.
Tire wear, fuel use, and mechanical damage all set to normal.

On the actual car, I've left the tune stock as frankly, I don't really know what to change apart from trying to equalise tire temps with pressure settings. I think it should be okay for folks to modify tunes as they see fit though I guess.

- Fuel level 10L/5 laps (fuel should probably be variable, as I know some might want more momentum with continued laps, I just personally don't like too many hot laps in a row and want to keep weight down)
- Soft Tires
- Cockpit view

Track setting in open practise mode is rainfall: none, time start: 15:00. Private test. Tomorrow I'll run in time trial mode and see if there are any differences, although I don't think there are as the best time set in practise still shows up.

Laps are clean, at least 2 tires inside white line at all times.

Fuel Load is probably it since I rarely mess with it in practice. Seems like with the SGT mod, most of the aero on the front and back is maxxed out so not much to adjust other then the default game options like TCS and Brake Aids. Surprisingly(might be because of the joystick), it doesn't feel too different from GT4 when I use the Controller so at 100R, I go in full speed, let off about mid way, then throttle back until the next corner just as I did on the PS2.

I'll see if I can make some laps of similar speed with the settings you've posted and then go from there. If I'm at least close to it, then there might not need to be much adjustment made for the specific peripherals.

Okay, so I can apply the standard rules regarding what are clean and what are dirty laps.

So this is using the Super GT GT500 mod by Yakkun?
Maybe put the link to the tracks and the SGT files in the first post?

Yep, that exact mod. The links will be put in the names of the mods and tracks.

Just an n.b, the link on HSW is to version 2.2. v.2.3 is most up to date.

Links fixed. I do wonder though what is the main difference as I never quite saw anything different, or at least nothing that caught my attention.

I got the mod from nogrip and there were 4 files. So I think the latest version is 4?
Careful, the game keep crashing when tryign to continue after selecting the sc430 cars. The models SC30 and Aston Martin don't show when selecting them in the car selection menu.
And were did you get the track?

The latest version is 2.3, it just comes in 4 parts. Other people have had problems with the Aston at least, I'd say read around on the nogrip forums/download comments.

edit: everything works fine in my game btw.

Works good on my end, The Aston Martin as well as all the other cars show up just fine.

Don't forget about me!

Was wondering when you'd finally post in here  Right now, I'm trying to get things sorted for this competition and amke some necessary adjustments to make it fair so please join us:)

Thanks, I'll look into it some more tomorrow an hopefully get it sorted.
Got a link to the Fuji track we're using? There are several of them on nogrip.

Okay, couldn't sleep last night and fired up fuji again, and I managed to get into the mid-low 33s. Silly me only realised that replay save was off after.

I did save a hot lap a couple tenths slower though in the mid 33s, but does anyone know if a way to export the .vcr file? I'm toying with exporting, so I have it down for when needed, but everything I read says I need ATi MMC, which I don't have, to convert the file to anything watchable.

I've managed to get into the high 34s at Fuji so it looks like the fuel load was definately one issue, now I have to figure out how to get that one additional second. Also did some laps at Indy and am getting the low 26s.

I'm in the 36's at the moment at Fuji.

It feels so much different than the track in Prologue.

I just got a 1'33.927 at Fuji in an Arta NSX. When I came here to post it, I noticed I should have been in a Lexus... Whoops. I'll hopefully get another go, in the right car, over the weekend.

.vcr files are like GT save files. The only thing that can use them is GTR2 as they are indecipherable to anything else. You need to get GTR2 to play them, and a program like fraps to record them.

Thanks. Just got fraps and have messed around with it with good results. Replays shouldn't be a problem now.

Racecar, have you thought of a deadline date for laptime submissions, or is it less formal and we just post up times as and when?

edit: Into the mid 32s now.

I finally think I've got something put together regarding the settings:

*40L of fuel(10 Laps)
*Front Tires: Soft
*Rear Tires: Soft
*Radiator Opening: 4

Might need some further polishing and tweaking, but I've got something finally going. I also have in mind for future competitions that in whichever mod we use, everyone will be allowed to pick a certain car from that mod. For instance say we have a comp going on at the Nurburgring Grand Prix circuit using the DTM mod, everyone could choose either an Audi A4 or a Mercedes C-Class and which particular car. So as an example, I choose the Top Service Audi A4 and daan chooses the Playboy Audi A4 or Dijital Majik picks the Trilux Mercedes C-Class and Terronium-12 chooses the AMG Mercedes C-Class. An input on that from you guys is welcome.

I haven't thought of one actually now that you mention it. I guess I can start by putting the deadline on this Sunday at 10:00 PM GMT

I'm game for any type of series race, but I'm especially up for an F1 race series. 👍

Would tuning be allowed?
