OK so as always a new GT comes along and one of the main topics of conversation is audio.

Now one thing that does get noticed is that audio in GT since the PS3 days is always very quiet in comparison to most other titles. This is down to PD's use of wide range uncompressed audio files (note that this alone doesn't automatically mean better).

So I wanted to look at how much lower the levels are and what would happen in you were to correct the levels of the titles to match and then compare them.

So here we do a video that does just that.

Well, if you have the same material, it is automatically better, but yeah....
Thanks for your work!

EDIT: My goodness, I forgot how compressed pCARS' audio is. It's so effin' loud.

EDIT2: And no, it doesn't change anything. Volume doesn't make sound, it doesn't change the source material (unless you let it clip, which would just ruin it). If anyone hears a difference, except for the volume, he or she should check his/her audio system.

What I am about so say isn't a joke - I think the AC sound is worse than GT Sport. Project Cars however is on another level.

Nice work.
Great video. 👍

It's fair to say I'm not a huge audiophile when it comes to racing games.
But here are my thoughts.

In that instance, I prefer the GT sounds over AC, but I prefer AC's mix between engine note and transmission.
I find GT's sound almost too clean.
And I find PC's sound almost too raw at times.

But I like the throatiness of PC, so my vote goes there.

Regarding the native sound of GTS.
I like the sounds, but as I've mentioned, perhaps a little too clinical.
Apart from that, as a sound mix, I'ld like to see a lift in the engine sounds, and a small decrease in the transmission whine.
I think the sounds are a good step forward, but a few minor tweaks could go a long way.

After driving a clio cup race car at Palmer Sport in 2009 (see avatar), the only thing that comes close to the raw ear bleeding brutality that I experienced is P CARS. Very much agree that AC's sounds can be hit & miss. GTS is the worst out of all of them, even with the levels matched. Still a minor improvement over GT6, & fans coming straight from that to GTS won't be too displeased.

I brought this up in the AC forum, I mentioned that whilst the sounds are great they are lacking that violent sound you get from races cars. Also some of the early models such at the Lotus' sound like Gran Turismo sounds.

Wow, PCars is loud compared to GTS.

Even with the levels matched, I think that PCars is the winner here. However, if PD play around with their levels (engine/transmission/tyre/ambient) slightly, perhaps they could close the gap to PCars, it will never be better than PCars though as it lacks that raw punch PCars can give.

AC isn't too bad. Is that perhaps one of the better sounding cars?

Even the "Lord Kunos" makes mistakes...

There was a huge sound update from kunos in the October 1.9 update... So that video isn't even valid to compare anymore.
To make good comparatives you have to look for videos since 1.9 update or above.

In console version there's also a little difference.
Luca Sondano, the sound engineer, deactivated the reverbs in the console version because of some problems encountered.
Don't know when he will try to fix it.

That would be Luca Sodano, not Stefano. I agree some cars in Assetto dont sound perfect, specially older cars and classic ones (would be funny to see how GT Sport would manage these).

But is nonsense to say GT Sport sounds better than AC. First, all the cars sounds much more natural and guttural on AC. And second, AC is reaching a very high level in lots of cars (specially in new ones). 919, SF15T (this two are very difficult to make them sound good, as they dont sound very good on reality), Aventador, all the porsches, 787b... all these sound very close to the real car.
