I'm about to start building my first computer in the coming month, and I'm having a hard time deciding between these two cards.
Is there a large performance difference between the two cards or will I need the extra vRAM to power the eventual multi-monitor setup I'm aiming for? Note I'll probably be playing Project CARS and BF3 mostly. I don't want to spend any more than $600 on the cards so that's why I've ruled out the 4gb GTX 680.

Here is the links to the cards

Any help would be appreciated :)

GTX680 is faster but if you are not going to need the extra frames get a 2GB GTX670 and save some money.

pointless to get a 4GB slower one if you are not going to get a 4GB faster one.

My initial thought process was that I could possibly overclock the GPU on the 4gb though as now I went and did some research and apparently the difference between the framerate in the 670 and 680 is only around 6-10%. My main reason for considering the 4gb 670 was that I might use multiple monitors and have read reviews saying that with games such as Battlefield 3 there can be a stutter in the graphics due to the the 2gb of vRAM hitting it's limits.

670. Overclocks to beyond stock 680 speeds and the extra VRAM will be a huge help when you go multi-monitor, as you say.

Thanks for your guys input, yea I'm leaning more towards the 670 now seeing that overclocking the GPU shouldn't be too difficult.

Also I'm not too worried about cooling the GPU, I'll probably be mounting a H100 in my case and a supplemental fan. I'll be using a Cooler Master Haf X so I'm not too worried about space.
