Ok, this thread will likely die a horrible death, but I thought it would be fun to try - and the "Guess that plane" thread always makes me think "Guess that planet". Guess that planet is too easy though, and since there are only 8 of them, the thread would end quickly. So instead I thought it would be fun to guess planet-like objects in our solar system (asteroids, moons, etc.)

One phrase of advice: if you like this thread, don't try something too obscure.

Rules:
Pick from the following:
- Planets
- Moons
- Asteroids
- Kuiper Belt Objects
- Comets.

They have to be from our solar system, and try to make it recognizable (I might institute a minimum diameter). Try as best you can to get one whole side of the object in the image. Winners have 12 hours to post a new image or it will fall to the next person who guessed it correctly. If no one guesses the object within 24 hrs, anyone can post the next picture.

I'll go first, and I'll make it easy:

There are more than 8 Planets. There are the moons of each planet, there are asteroids, there are comets, there are suns, constellations, galaxies, etc. etc.

And that IS the moon, btw.

Ummmmm....the moon? No hang on the sun...no hang on, is is jupiter?

Ill stick with the moon.

You didn't mean that the way everyone thinks you meant that right?

There are more than 8 Planets.

Not in our Solar System there isn't. There's 8. EIGHT.

There are the moons of each planet

I think we know where I'm going here.

Yes. Planets are planets. Big, round things that are smaller than really big things (stars), but bigger and rounder than little things (asteroids). Constellations are just subjective arrangements of bright things that don't move much but can really be millions of light years apart (usually stars, not always). Galaxies are lots of stars together.

So Guess that planet = 8 possible answers (since we have no real images of Exosolar ones).

Planetoids are large asteroids and dwarf planets (like Pluto), and there's hundreds of them. Dan might even include comets in this.

GreyCap got it right first, so he's up. If he doesn't post within a reasonable time (say 12 hours from now), it will fall to TM who got it right second.

(and yes, comets and some Kuiper Belt objects are fair game - just try to pick big recognizable ones).

GreyCap: you're allowed to pick from Planets, Moons, Asteroids, Kuiper Belt Objects, and Comets. They have to be from our solar system, and try to make it recognizable (I might institute a minimum diameter). Try as best you can to get one whole side of the object in the picture.

Edit: I have updated the rules in the first post

Really? I had thought it was Uranus.

Chris.

OH MY GOD, you are sooooooo hilarious!!! I can’t stop laughing!!!!!1!1!!1!1!one!!!two!!!three........
Please, that comment was unnecessarily

I passed 7th grade a long time ago with a note of five out of five in the Astronomy subject. Same has you, I hope.

I was talking about the objects in the sky, not only our solar system. Just trying to amplify the subject of this thread, but yeah, with billion of suns and galaxies, it is a bit difficult to know which one is who. And ok, constellations was a bit stupid one.

Ok, so, everything within the Kuiper Belt is valid, eh? So, that extends more the horizons than just the Eight planets on our Solar System.

Oh, and just one correction:

There are the moons

"Natural Satellites" ;)

I don't know what level "7th grade" is, but I was last at school twelve years ago.

Also, I own a 4" reflecting telescope.

And the Oort Cloud too. There's some big puppies out in the Oort Cloud.

Not in common parlance. Note I didn't amend your "suns" to "stars" or even "stellar bodies"...

Their not really arguing as such. Simply stating crap that really doesnt matter.

Why did he post that anyway? Isn't it Greycap's turn? Im lost...

You're quite right, actually. Greycap was permitted 12 hours to post a new one (expired just under 2 hours ago) before it fell to TM. superberkut isn't in the frame at all and posted 5.5 hours before Greycap's go had expired...

Well there you go. So therefore Touring Mars, its your turn now. Probably doing something else. Also, what would happen if Touring Mars didn't post for 12 hours, would it go to LdS?
