OK, after the various "guess the car" threads, here's one for us propellorheads.

Usual rules apply: I post a picture, first correct identifier posts the next picture, yada yada. BUT there is an honor system. I don't have time to save everything to my hard drive, rename it something generic, and upload it back to the server. So Scout's Honor: No right-clicking to see the filename or web address.

[edit] The leader board is out of control. If you care about your score, count up your right answers and PM me...

This is a test of how much you know, NOT how well you can use Google. So try to do it without reaching for the search engine right away. Here's the first entry:

Not the best angle shot, so I'll make it easy and give you a different view:

Good luck and have fun!

I was about to create a 3d model of this one in grade 10 - if only i remembered the name :p.

I ended up choosing the P51 Mustang D. In fact, from that first image, it looks very much like the Mustang D but the 2nd image shows it isn't.

I'll just guess as think that i have a model plane of this one but I can't find the box to remember the name

Here's my guess. Hawker Tempest MKV

Obviously, it's a German plane. Notice the Luftwaffe markings, German registration number, German flag, and a Lufthansa (German Airline) marking.

Super-Supra may be correct.

Google is actually pretty useless when all you have to go on is a picture. All the better I say :trouble: .

Well spotted Viper, didnt even see the Luftwaffe marking 👍

It's a Messerschmitt BF-108 "Taifun"
Ding Ding Ding! Well done. One of my favorite airplanes of all times. Your go!
👍
And Super-supra is disqualified.

Hence, my "Scout's Honor" rule in the first post...

wat if it was still as prototype or at an exhibition?
have you searched for A1 ching-kuo, you find something very similar to teh F-16, but maybe not them colours.

I know exactly what it is, and it isn't built or flown in China.

The background behind the plane should be a dead giveaway as to the country of origin.

It's clearly over Japan, because that's Mount Fuji in the background. Red/White are Japan's racing colors, so making them their flying colors wouldn't be a stretch, would it?

Of course, I know nothing about aircraft. So I'm justy going to say it's a Toyota FX16 because it's got "TRD" on the rear wing.... :)

Red/White are also the colors on the Japanese flag...hence the Red Circle on all Japanese planes, like what can clearly be seen on the wings in this other shot:

The359-Plane2.jpg

By the way, not all Japanese planes are painted white/red (although most ARE painted white with just the red circle), this plane is specifically colored this way because it's the prototype for the design.

By the way, the plane you think this is, the Chung-Kuo IDF, is this:
idf-a.jpg

Similar to an F-16, but not quite.

The Japanese aircraft is a Mitsubishi F-2; basically a licensed F-16 design with some modifications made to the aerodynamics.

Neon Duke hit it right on the head, the Mitsubishi F-2, also known as the FS-X. An upgraded F-16 built in Japan.

Your go again.

Here goes:

Bonus points if you can tell me the significance of this aircraft. Not this particular airframe, but the model in general.

is it an An-2?

[EDIT] it does paratroop transport,
glider tug, navigation trainer, utility transport and light bomber. Is that the bonus point you were looking for?

Correct! Antonov AN-2.

Actually the bonus point that I was going was: it holds the record for longest total production life. It was manufactured in one form or another for something like 45 years. Imagine building a brand-new biplane (for anything other than aerobatics) in the 1990s...

Your go, E2!

He so cheated. I thought this thread was about YOUR knowledge about aircraft, not Google's.
