Guess what.. my computer died on Monday..

I was surfing the internet when all of a sudden the pc made the usual shutdown noise and it freezed. Then I began to smell smoke. That was it. Now it doesnt even recognize that I have a hardrive in it. :eek:

So I wont be here as usual.


Now thats great news to the people that hate me!!! :lol:

If your computer doesn't recognize your hardware, then the CPU, motherboard, memory, and power supply must be working if it can recognize anything, even if it can't recognize anything. So, your computer isn't "dead" yet. Like F1man said, it might just be your hard drive or videocard if you can't see any video on your monitor.
 
dont computers make coded beep noises when they start and there is a problem. I read it somewhere, like 1 long beep and then a short one means bad video card or 2 long beeps means prob with the ram...

just hwat i heard, dunno
 
Yes, the motherboard makes coded beeps. Although, they might make different beeps depending on what kind of motherboard you have.
 
ok it ses its 2 big ill just type it.

y do u think i have 2 operating systems on it. cuz i reinstalled the softwere and then it would not let me get online. it wouldnt let me uninstall the softwere. i cant do a format cuz the ME disk that came with my computer r messed up and the XP i got is the upgrade and i need a operating system on the hard drive to install it.
 
My friends computer blew up two days ago! :eek: He was sleeping and then he heard this BANG! and the computer blew up. He said it didn't really matter because it was ancient and no harm was done. :)

i run a dual boot just cause i like 98SE for games, and Win2000 pro for work and office stuff
 
I have 2 harddrives
1 for win2k
1 for 98 SE

whenever i start my computer the very first thing that pops up is a command prompt asking me which OS i want to run

im not sure how to do it but i am sure someone here at GTP could tell you if you made a thread bout it
