đź‘Ť Me! Today was the first of 3 driving lessons before I can recieve my permit. It was quite fun. I had no problems, though, at first I didnt do the hand over hand steering I just moved my arms. After 20 minutes I had that figured out good. Oh, and tha car I drove was a white late Nissan Sentra the stock one, nothing special.đź‘Ť
 
Congrats! What will you be driving when you procure your license/permit?
 
Well for my permit I am using the driving schools Nissan Sentra B-15. But for my driver lisence I will use most likely my dads 04' Suzuki XL-7. But I dont get my lisence until this december...soo close yet so far :(.
 
Today I had another lesson. It went very well. We did parralel parking and I pulled it off easy. The only thing i need to practace is still me "hand over hand' turning.
 
The license test for New Jersey is a joke. It's done in a parking lot and takes no longer then 5 minutes.

My test involved stopping at the stop sign, staying to the right on the fake road, make a right turn, parallel park in the box, K-turn back around, make a left turn, then come to a stop when your back to the beginning of the course.

Pass

..then wait in line for 2 hours at the DMV.

For the test, force yourself to hand over hand, don't skimp on the complete stops, pretend to check all mirrors and the blind spot before turning and use your signals. If you fail you shouldn't be allowed to ride a bicycle in Jersey.

That is the only part I am a bit worried about, I dont do hand over hand unconsiouly. When I realize it im already through the turn. On the bright side I have until December 5th to practice my steering because thats when I am doing my lisence test.

The Florida driving test is no rocket science either. Drive around a parking lot, stop at a stop sign, make a three-point-turn, park (front end first) and that's it. Oh, and if there's a speck of water on the windshield, use the wipers.

I did it in a 1989 Mazda MX-5 (manual of course) and the instructor said that out of the 100 or so cars he'd tested that month, this was the second manual.

I did it in my driving school's 1997-2000 Ford Escort sedan, which was an automatic. Then I submitted the driving school's results to the DMV, which gave me my license. I suppose that makes Colorado's the easiest of all, since I could've presumably faked the results from my driving school. Since I took my test the law's changed and I'm not sure what I did is entirely possible anymore.
 
Oh, I also took the written test on a tuesday, and the practical exam on the following wednesday. Meaning the total time between making the decision of getting the driver's licence and actually getting it was less than 24 hours. :D

ummm... yeah. And I left the carpark squealing the tyres too!

Then again, I've seen the test in Spain, and while it's extremely hard and expensive (I paid about $25 total in Florida), the quality of Spanish drivers doesn't reflect on the difficulty of the test.
 
$25?! It cost £100 total for me since I (like 9/10 others) had to borrow the instructor's car for the test.

Nope that is/was how NMs test was minus the driving.:scared:
No joke the only tests I had to pass for my license were written.
 
I only had to pay $20, but that was for my white slip (learners permit). No charge that I know of for the actual license. I had to drive around the neighborhood around ten minutes, do a turnabout in an alleyway (on a road that was like 1.3 lanes...Lost points because I "went in the other lane"!!!). Sorry that I didn't want to end up cutting it too close and going in the ditch. That was in the rain, too.

Edit: I haven't even been pulled over yet and its been a year and a month.
 
My test? Pull out of the parking lot, right. Go down the street. A couple turns, parallel park. Go a little farther, back around a corner (What is the point?:confused:)Go back down the street, turn and I was done. Never above 30 mph, never on a more-than-one-lane-each-way road. Judging by the quality of all your tests, apparently this was rocket science. I thought it was easy, so I must be some kind of crazy genious. Don't know how the rest of the country would fare doing my test:sick::scared:.
 
Ok, I just got back from my last 2 hour lesson with my instuctor and my permit will come by mail in about 3-5 days.:dopey: It was a fun experience and not nearly as nerve-racking as I though it would be. Also today I had no school on account to the snow and we still went out. I was on the NJ state parkway and route 1 and 9 (a and dangerous road). Well, I should be driving by the end of the week for the first time ....legally. Now all I have to do is wait untill my birthday, December 5, because thats when my lisence test is schedualed. For now my ride will be my dads

I bet you had fun in the snow! It kinda sucks that you will be driving an SUV. Those thinks ar just so heavy. Oh well, just wait until you get to drive something nice and light. That will be quite the experience. Good luck!

By the time I was driving the snow was mostly gone. Hopefully there will ba another snow before the end of this winter season. Also, My officail permit should come in the mail in a day or two. About the SUV thing, I dont really mind that much. Im just glad to be driving something even if it is a far cry from a sentra or my dads 2001 Subaru Outback he sold (interesting fact, my dads Outback was bought 2 days before 9/11).
 
Wow and I thought the Virginia test was easy as it could get. I had to pull out of the DMV go down 610 ( 45 mph road ) into the neighborhood right behind mine back out of the neighborhood and back to the DMV.

Of course I am an awsome driver. jk :lol: I know I'm better than most poeple driving around here but I'm not that cocky to say I know I am a great driver. I'm sure most people around here suck at driving since they manage to crash by themselves on dry roads, I haven't managed that yet so I think I can drive better than them at least.

I know that exact feeling. I got to practice with a SUV and a truck my whole time with my learners permit. Then I went and got my car 98' Trans Am which my not be extremely light, but there is a huge power difference and atleast a noticable weight difference. It was a fun experience driving that for the first time.
 
It doesn't have to be an SUV to notice the difference. I learned on a 2-ton Volvo. Driving a Protegé down a curvy road was incredibly thrilling.
 
My dad drove a Pinto in his driving test.... 3 years later he bought his own! :dunce: Just after he sold it, the s--- hit the fan about the gas tank. :scared:
 
I just got my permit in the mail. Now I have to wait for my dad to get home:indiff: . yay!:dopey:
